Yah! Welcome!! We all eventually get used to the George Jetson sound of our bikes, but there are a few things to try out, just do a search on the subject. Some have tried different clutches and the "I" basket mod, the rest of us just turn up our very confusing audio systems and drown it out! Just pop your favorite cassette into the deck and enjoy. As far as lights go, it's all up to your imagination but there are a few standards. In the rear it's Harley style licence plate light bar, and in the front Yammi light bars with all sorts of options on bulbs from LED's to HID's. Actually, my favorite place to shop for lights is truck stops and Auto Zone. You have a lot of helpful members down your neck of the woods, but as you will find out there are a lot of helpful members period in this big happy family we call Ventureriders!

Success..Almost

OK the "tach" part is a clue!! I would remove your TCI, unscrew the cover, drain any moisture in the case and bake in the oven at 175 - 200 for an hour or so. Check the contacts for corrosion and clean them and use dielectric grease. There also is a connector below the seat that the coil pickup wires come from that also should be serviced for corrosion as well It should be along the top frame just about where the down pipe is. You see, the tach gets it's info from the #2 coil primary so if the tach isn't working right away, something is amiss with the spark signal... -
Yah!! Earl's a great and talented guy!!!

Uhhhh, was this the secret post to start the whole thing in motion?? Errrrr, never mind...

The '85 trunk and the MK2 trunk are the same trunk but with different hardware on it. This is fact as we just went thru this last month having both trunks side by side and compared! Same trunk, different hardware. The base mount is the same for all years, but with extra stuff welded on it for '85, and a more solid way of mounting to the frame via extra arms welded to the '85 rack. But yes, the hardware is a little different for the MK1 ande MK2. When I deliver the '85 hardware to Wizard765 at Kitchener this month I am going to have him compare the MK1 hardware with it to see what the differences actually are but somehow I think they may be similar...

You may want to consider upgrading to a MK2 trunk, they are .lots bigger and can be made to mount on the MK1 mount, or upgrade the mount to either an 85, or use a MK2 mount and modify it to fit the MK1. It's pretty much a straightforward modifications. I can supply you with pix if you need of all the different mounts so you can compare them. I can give you a MK2 mount for the cost of shipping but it is not in the greatest of shape. You can also upgrade the saddlebags to the larger MK2 bags fairly easily. You just need the crash bars/mounts for the bags from a MK2. They will bolt up directly to a MK1 but to use the MK2 trunk mount correctly you have to swap out the rear subframe. I have partial assemblies of the saddlebags for cost of shiping...

I successfuly replaced the hot water heater after 3 trips to the hardware store, aqnd while In was at it I routed a Cat5e cable to the blue ray player in the bedroom so I can have internet access to the player. Managed to fall on the ice and bumped my thick skull. Now my back hurts and my neck too!! I need a new desktop computer, I renewed my anti virus, downloaded the software and it quit in the middle of installing and now it won't access the internet! Oh well, the darn thing is about 8 years old or so, and waaaaay obsolete. BJ's has a $50 off sale on a HP and I have a credit card with Zero interest until next Feb. My electric razor broke yesterday but I found another one on Fleabay for around $40 new so I'm happy. Been sort of a mix of good/bad the last couple of days...

Freebird's Maintenance Day Parts/Accessories Thread

Bring Carolyn's Irish Cream, Don loves it! And Berringer White Zin for Becky... J/K but I may need some brake fluid if I do the SS lines on my clutch that day. Otherwise, you are close enough that I can pick up what I need here.. Don't know if anybody contacted you, but Quickstep from Australia is looking for a "Brando" style leather jacket in 2XL I think. Big Tom has the info. -
I didn't say I STOPPED for it!!! It did give me a nasty look though as I drove past...

Radio controller acting weird
bongobobny replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would try spraying the contacts of the controller connector(inside the fairing) with contact cleaner really good, blow out with an air gun, and then apply dielectric grease and reseat a couple of times first before you spend money on another controller. It causes all sorts of strange problems...- 10 replies

What I think is funny is that people let themselves be smacked over and over!! Once should be enough or one too many times to begin with...

I would recommend crossing at Buffalo myself as there is less traffic than trying to go thru Michigan, but that's IMHO. I guess it depends WHERE in Ontario you are planning to visit. We have 3 places to cross, the Peace Bridge in downtown Buffalo, directly accessable by Interstate, Niagara Falls, almost directly accessable by Unterstate, and Lewistown, indirectly accessable by interstate. Myself I prefer the Peace Bridge, normal crossing time anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours at peak travel time. Yes, you need either a passport or enhanced licence. You can not carry firearms into Canada, as well as a large amount of alcohol or an inordinate amount of cigarettes. For complete rules and regulations visit the Customs Bureau website. Speed limits are in Kilometers per hour. Like in the US you can get away with being slightly over but don't press your luck too far. In some cases if you are waaaaay over the limit they will impound your vehicle. American and Canadian money are basically at par right now but vary. Most Canadian places will take your money at par regardless if it is worth more at the time. There is a percentage if you exchange your money at the currency exchange. Most credit cards are accepted but there is a international transaction fee put on each purchase, but you get the exchange rate. Yes, the Western New York crowd will put on a get together if you come as long as we know a little in advance about it. There is also a large constituant of Ontario Ventureriders as well, and many times there is more Canadians than "Americans" at some of the stateside rides and get togethers!! Keep us posted! PS practice your language skills, eh! They do speak a slightly different language...

If nothing else, I really like relocating the cruise switch to a more accessable location!!! Actually I like the whole thing!
