  1. Took a ride down to the Yuba River today. started out around 72 degrees and got down to 52 in the river canyon. No Snow or Ice to deal with. Sorry everyone, not bragging about our weather here but..... Oh Yea, Pictures Included.
  2. I posted this site before the crash of '06. This will get you to the home page and from there, you can search state by state. http://www.byways.org/ I hope to do the Mississippi River ride sometime in the next couple of years. Maybe in sections. But for now, it's Ft. Collins or bust.
  3. http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_285000_359331370819147_1168608164_n.jpghttp://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_230809_359331230819161_656560985_n.jpghttp://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_299384_359327490819535_1333001915_n.jpghttp://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_561883_359327354152882_1970711329_n.jpghttp://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_198749_359332314152386_1125462496_n.jpghttp://www.venturerider.org/forum/http://s1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/?action=view&current=285000_359331370819147_1168608164_n.jpg' target=_blank>http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/Facebook/Untitled%20Album-1/th_285000_359331370819147_1168608164_n.jpg

  6. HYMN # 365 This is too funny - but I suspect the minister didn't appreciate it. A minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, 'If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' With even greater emphasis he said, 'And if I had All the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he Said, 'And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' Sermon complete, he sat down... The song leader stood very cautiously and announced With a smile, nearly laughing, 'For our closing song, Let us sing Hymn #365, 'Shall We Gather at the River.' Smile - life is too short not to!! If this brightened your day Don't let it stop here Pass it on with a smile Keep spreading the Cheer. See you at the river! Bring your own glass!
  7. It's a commin, Nascar on Da River, labor day weekend Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon. We are about 1 hr south of Chicago very close to I57 and Rt17. This is a noisy weekend of Boat Races, bands and activities. We are on the river where a turn is , next to the start & pits. Room in the yard for campers . . . If you do come in, we are past the last Barricade, tell security you are coming to my house. . . Here is a link for the River Road side http://www.kankakeeregatta.com/
  8. Had a great weekend. Several of us rode from Saltspring up to Gold River on Vancouver Island for the weekend. Went up 19A along the coast then over to Gold River. Weather on Saltspring was great, we got to Campbell river and it clouded over, half way to GR we hit rain. Rained hard overnight. Light rain when we left. Back to cloud on Campbell river and sunshine on Saltspring. Ok, after Nelson and now this I give up, I am going to have to change from Sailor to Rainman.
  9. Buttahatchee River... http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/th_GEDC0298.jpghttp://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/th_GEDC0295.jpg http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc501/1hondaman1100/th_GEDC0293.jpg
  10. We've had way too much rain this year. All previous records have been broken for this area. We got another 3" down pour today. Here's a view of the golf course next to us. The little patch of green, centre right, is all that's left of the 16th green. The view is looking north up the 17th fair way. Normally the river is no more than a small creek on the other side of that tree line but when we get this much rain it turns into a real river. I'm guessing that the water is as much as 15 or more feet deep in some spots.

  12. Hello all riders headed to Vogel! The wife and I live and ride all the back country roads around Vogel and would like to see if anyone would be interested in having someone local take them on tour. I had taken a few with me on rides last Vogel and had great responses. I would like to keep the group no larger than five bikes for saftey. A couple of ideas for rides. Wed. ride up to Murphy then over to the Hiawasse Dam and back to Vogel. Thur. ride to Suches, up Hwy 180 then Hwy 60 to Morganton then to Mineral Bluff, Copper Hill, TN Hwy 58 up to Telico Plains Grap a subway sandwich and take it up to Bald River Falls to have a picnic. Then ride over the Cherohala Skyway into Robbinsville. Then ride over to Hwy 28 South toward Natahalla River Gorge. Ride thru the river gorge and over the Wayhla Rd to US64 toward Hayesville, NC back to Vogel. Fri. I would call it the Waterfalls ride. Taking backroads up to Hayesville, NC taking US64 all the way over to Brevard, NC up Hwy 256 and then the Blue Ridge Parkway back to Balsam, NC then US Hwy 74 . Note able we should see at least six waterfalls and make it to the highest point on the blue ridge parkway some 6,052 feet if I recall. Sat could just be a small figure eight around the Vogel, Helen, Hiawasse, Suches Area. Back in time to have a great lunch with everyone. Lets us know what you think. We sould be over by 11:00 A.M. on Wed. Sooner if need be. Thanks to the wonderful people on this site. Be safe and hope to meet some new friends & see some old ones. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
  13. I picked up a long reach phillips screwdriver. Already synch'd two carbs. Anyone else wants to stop by, the cost is free, and I can give you a quick tour of the great river road from Guttenberg to Dubuque, IA. Takes about 5 minutes to synch the carbs and 1 hour to ride on some of the best MC roads in flyover country.
  14. Just got back from a vacation with the family. We went over to Minneapolis for a getaway. While there, we took the car over towards Lake City MN. Lake City is on the Mississippi river which makes up the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. If you ever get a chance to take a bike trip along the river, DO IT.....It is really beautiful country. Red Wing, Lake City, Zumbro Falls, Wabasha. I'm sure the wisconsin side is just as nice. nothing like seeing sailboats etc. on Lake Pepin (mississippi) at Lake City. All in all, a beautiful day, even in the car. I know there is a posting on this kind of a ride in the roads and destinations, but I couldnt help throwing out a reminder.
  15. Well, the Missouri River is doing it's best to leave the riverbed and wander where it wants in Omaha and surrounding areas. They are closing parts of I-29 North of Council Bluffs, IA as the water is up to the shoulder. It's making things interesting for sure. A few shots of the river around the downtown area.

After a laugh, the snorkeling equipment went back into their car, though they almost needed it. After finishing their meal Friday night, the Kinanes and 81 others found themselves floating downstream during the dinner rush when the restaurant broke from its moorings. It came to rest against a bridge about 100 feet downriver, and all on board had to be rescued, one at a time, with a makeshift gangplank of ladders and ropes. Women were rescued first, then the men. "We were joking about the river," Kathy Kinane told The Associated Press on Saturday morning. "Well, the joke's on us now." Officials said the hours-long rescue was orderly and calm. One patron would climb down the gangplank wearing a life jacket, which would then be sent back up for the next person. Kathy Kinane said she had to take off her heels to make her way down. Among those rescued was former Cincinnati Bengals star Cris Collinsworth, Covington fire Capt. Chris Kiely said. Collinsworth, a pro football commentator for NBC, has long been associated with Waterfront owner and restaurateur Jeff Ruby. On the waterfront's menu for $40 is the "Steak Collinsworth," along with other steaks and high-end entrees including lobster, sea bass and tuna. The restaurant is one of several on the river in Covington, just across from Cincinnati. Kinane and her husband, Bill - frequent patrons of the Waterfront - had arrived around 7:30 p.m. and listened to music for awhile before joining another couple at a table for dinner. They were finishing up around 10:15 when they felt an ominous bump. Kinane said her husband peered out the window and saw that the barge was moving with the fast-paced current. They had eaten there before with the water levels rising, but the boat had always remained in place. "That was not a good thing," she said. "We said, 'Let's get up and leave.'" However, they found a crowd near the exit. The walkway ramp had broken loose from shore, and the patrons had no way of getting off the barge. TV footage showed diners pacing aboard the boat as firefighters put together the makeshift bridge above the water, which was swirling with broken tree limbs and other debris. Kiely said several patrons had used cell phones to call for help. The power never went out, and tugboats and emergency crews arrived quickly, Kinane said. The barge started moving when a main cable came loose, leaving the remaining cables to handle more pressure than they could withstand, said Covington Fire Chief Chuck Norris. Surveliance footage shows a tall woman identified as Yama Mama leaving the scene on a 1999 RSV ridden by a hooded gent. She was seen tossing a pair of bolt cutters into the Ohio river while shouting "see you all in chat". A short red-headed accomplice made her getaway on foot. The barge came to rest against a bridge that spans the river, though the U.S. Coast Guard and other workers were still working Saturday to keep the boat secure until it could be towed back to its proper place. The Coast Guard and other boats worked to keep the restaurant in place until it could be moved - and it was unclear when that would happen, said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Rob Reinhart. The river was already at least 3 feet above flood stage, according to the National Weather Service. Traffic flowed normally across the bridge, and trains moved on an adjacent track uninterrupted. "If the bridge wasn't there it could have traveled down the river quite a ways," said Rob Carlisle, co-owner of C&B Marine of Covington, which had dispatched a towboat to help secure the restaurant's front end. The barge had come to a halt by the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge, one of several linking Cincinnati with northern Kentucky. Reinhart said the restaurant likely would be heavily damaged if it broke free again because the top of the barge stands higher than the bottom of the bridge. He said it would have been up to local authorities to order restaurants to close because of the high river levels, though it could not immediately be determined who would be responsible for that decision. Calls by the AP to restaurateur Jeff Ruby were not returned Saturday. He owns or operates several restaurants in Cincinnati and surrounding areas. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. 18. We are planning a trip down to northeast Iowa/Southwest Wisconsin in the next several weeks for a ride along the Mississippi river. Can anyone recommend roads, places of interest, a nice old style motel? We did the river ride from Hastings, MN down to LaCrosse earlier this summer and it was wonderful. Stayed in Fountain City, WI one nite at an older style motel that was completely refurbished. The motel owners were just wonderful. They hung out with us outside in the evening and chatted.

  20. I'm going camping with the travel trailer. Going to Arrow Point campground in Loudenville Ohio. We are going to be on site 24, a river front, it's kinda neat watching the canoes floating by. They start about 10 o'clock and by 2 or 3 in the afternoon, half if not more have had way too many bud lights or whatever. The good thing is that most of the river is shallow enough that if they just stand up they'll be fine, however, they still have a lot of trouble getting back in a canoe. It costs $30 a night to camp but the canoe entertainment is well worth it. If anybody is going to be in the area, stop by, I always have a Michelob Ultra for friends. Have a GREAT week end everybody !! I'll try to get some pics for Monday
  21. Hey Everyone,,, Did my other favorite Hobby today,,, Went Kayaking in the Northern end of the Suwanee River, about 11 miles lots of deer, couple river Otters, and some cool Snakes. Saturday, I am getting on the Venture for some all day riding, down through Ocala, and back. Nuttin but Backroads. I am looking for a Black LED Brake Light wing/Spoiler for the Trunk of my 09' Venture. I have the Red & Black, I want a Black Spoiler. I'm not wanting to pay $250.00. I really want better brake light visibility & a MUCH better horn, and will knock out the Exhaust Soon. Does that Void The warranty??? ANYONE,, ANYONE? Hope all is well, and the riding has been good for all !! Later "Vern on a Venture"
  22. I was just wondering if anyone had any itentions around Nashville. If not I might need to stir something. I also have a camper setup near townsend at the Misty River Campground. I am usually there a couple times a month. I would love to get together with some of you there sometime.
  23. Let's assume for the moment that the weather is going to co-operate. That being the case we are intending to ride. Leaving Caledonia at 9:00AM and having a leisurely ride along the Grand River followed by some more kinda slow and lazy roads following Lake Erie shoreline where we will get to see a cool optical illusion then off to Ft Erie and follow the Niagara river to Niagara on the Lake. Then back to Caledonia through Caister etc.... The Count (Steve and Michele) are coming along with Robin and I. All are welcome to join us. We should be back by dinner time but I'm not gonna PROMISE that.... It IS going to be a relaxing ride with some stops. Wayne
  24. We just completed riding the Great River Road along the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Memphis, Tennessee. We followed the river down the west side and returned following the river's east side. All said we rode about 1900 miles and visited 9 of the 10 states that border the mighty Mississippi over 7 days with 2 days spent seeing the sights in Memphis. Our longest ride was a couple of 400 mile days. Besides the beautiful scenery that abounds on both sides of the river we enjoyed stops in many of the little (and big) river towns along the way. We found it interesting how much the cultures change as you head south. This trip was a dream of my wifes ever since she watched Feasting on Asphalt - The River Run on the Food Network. She even bought the book to make sure we hit a few of the host's (Alton Brown) favorite river stops. If you decide to make this ride I stongly recommend using a GPS that will allow you to preload routes as the roads change often if you truly want to follow the river as close as you can. I used a Garmin product that allowed me to create the routes on my PC and then load them into the GPS. Happy Trails!

    WOW Squid

First hope you got home OK after your trailer problems. Must of been a great deal in Vermont to pass by that 1st gen for sale in your own back yard, about 500 ft. north of the Blue River. Now the WOW part. That's sure a beautiful area of Michigan you live in. From St. Clair south to Algonac everything was so clean and well kept, and riding along the river had marvelous scenery along with all the Women in their bikini's. Took the ferry to Harsen's Island and that was a nice ride in it's self. Make a nice little ride for a summer meet and eat. Good luck on the new scoot.
