  1. It's been a long year deployment. I am so glad to have them back here, and out of Iran's missile range.:banana:
  2. I am leaving the Peoria, Illinois area on Tuesday August 7th headed to Asheville, NC I am going to stop in Indianapolis and drop off Dano's trailer to him then head southeast on the 2 lane roads and wiggle my way through Kentucky's hill country down through Tennessee arriving sometime Wednesday afternoon. If anyone is headed that way and wants to ride let me know. Rick
  3. A Tennessee fan walks into a restaurant and sits next to an Auburn fan with a Auburn hat & t-shirt on. He says to the fan, "A-U-B-U-R-N, what does that stand for?" The Auburn fan replies, "Alabama Usually Beats Us 'Round November." He turns to the Tennessee fan, sees UT on his hat and says, "What does UT stand for?" The Tennessee fan replies, "Us Too."
  4. does any one in the vicinity of the cairo, illinois no how the flooding situation is? i have to cross the river near there to get to b2 mom &dads meet next friday. i will be coming down highway 55 in missouri, and heading through kentucky to tennessee. last year my gps took me right to the motel in martin, tennessee.
  5. So as some of you may know I am exiled to the state of Tennessee, Chattanooga to be exact, while my daughter attends college near by. Pretty damn good gig actually! Yesterday my riding buddy and I left Chattanooga heading in the general direction of the Grand Ole Opry Hotel/Convention center in Nashville with only one goal in mind, TO GET LOST! Well we managed to get lost while trying to get lost! What a ride, what a day! Again what was suppose to be about a two hour ride or so turned into an all day excursion with us, again, returning after dark. For those of you that don't know Tennessee has mountains, Tennessee, has curves, Tennessee has scenery! I find myself falling in Love with this state. The icing on the cake is that the people are mostly down to earth and friendly to, even to this transplanted Aggie! Destin, FL will always be my favorite place in the world but if it wasn't for the fact that funny white stuff falls outta the sky during the winter and that the beach is over 400 miles away it would become my permanent home. I might have to Summer here 3 months outta the year and Destin the other 3 months with 6 months of traveling, the long way, back and forth. Hmnn might have to find a rich girlfriend!!
  6. My wife and I are hoping to do a spring bike trip next year. We hope to start out from Knoxville Tennessee, go over to the Natchez Trace Parkway and ride it south, loop back through Macon Georgia to visit family and then back to the Knoxville area. I was hoping I could get some advice from as to: The earliest we could go next spring and still expect reasonable weather for our ride through Tennessee/ Mississippi/Alabama and Georgia. What we should stop and see along the way Interesting places to stay If there are any detours worth exploring on our route We have done the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway and the "Tail of the Dragon" previously although we may ride the Cherohola again on the way back as it is hard to beat. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim
  7. Who will be at Star Days this year 2010 Chattanooga Tennessee? Diane and I will be there, were staying at the Cho-Chooooooo:sun: Check out the Star Days 2010 calendar. http://venturerider.org/forum/calendar. Star Days http://www.startouring.org/ http://www.stardays.org/
  8. Hey Nighthawk II, sure was nice to meet you this afternoon! I'd like to come up to Oneida and ride sometime. Maybe we should try to get all the East Tennessee Venture riders together and do the curves of the Big South Fork!
  9. Wow! We had a beautiful day and a wonderful ride today here in East Tennessee! We left Knoxville up in the morning and rode down to Tellico then across the Cherohala Skyway to NC. Most of the leaves are gone but there are still some pretty colorful scenes, and plenty of sunshine and 70 degree weather. Left Robbinsville NC and rode the Dragon back to Tennessee and then back home. Just a wonderful day to ride! We saw a black cherry RSV while on the Dragon. Anyone here? Also, we saw a new Vmax. Awesome! Our two riding buddies, both motorcycle officers with exceptional skill sets got to see the bike take off from a dead stop as it was spinning the tire, working up a little sideways, then hooked up and was off like a shot. They were both extremely impressed with the performance and the sound of the bike. Just another great day that I am thankful for the opportunity to ride...
  10. I figured this would be the only chance to take my son on a real biking trip because next year he starts university and would not be able to go again for years to come. So we packed the trailer, gassed up the two bikes and headed out with only one destination … anywhere the sun was shinning. 2800 miles (4500km) and we were home. What a priceless trip. Road in 10 States and 1 province Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York We had the unbelievable experience of riding the following; The Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, Tellico Plains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah Valley and at Deals Gap we tamed the dragon. After we left the Appalachian Mountains we headed for the Adirondacks in New York. We were at Sweetwater, Robbinsville, Cherokee, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and visited places like The Lost Sea, The Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns, Ruby Falls, Rock City, Smokey Mountain National Park, Tennessee Aquarium, and the Ohio Caverns. Priceless time spent. Some of the pics from the trip.

We laid my Dad to rest yesterday. He loved the out doors; camping, motorcycling, running, walking, hunting and fishing. He held on long enough to get to know his grandson from Tennessee that he had never met. Thanks to all of you that offered up prayers, it worked. He is out of pain and in a better place. Rod
  12. Meth-from-urine lab busted in east Tennessee The Associated Press CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) — Law enforcement officers in east Tennessee say they have so far found three methamphetamine operations that extract the illegal drug from urine in Anderson County. Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said the department got a tip that led to a raid Thursday, resulting in drug charges against Rickie Jack Harber, 47. Deputies found meth-making components and 144 gallons of urine, stored in plastic bottles, Lucas said. The department reports the lab is the third, but largest such operation it has found, according to The Knoxville News-Sentinel. Harber was charged with promotion of methamphetamine manufacture and is held in lieu of $200,000 bond. Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force director Tommy Farmer said labs that use the urine of meth users to make the drug are a ‘‘very infrequent thing.’’ ‘‘We have had a couple’’ in southeast Tennessee, he said. Farmer said law enforcement officers in some communities have discovered bottles of urine without realizing it is used to make the addictive stimulant. Farmer said such labs are ‘‘pretty disgusting’’ but they show what meth addicts will resort to if they can’t otherwise get the drug that is usually made by cooking toxic chemicals and decongestant products that are now restricted. He said meth users when arrested are frequently quarantined so others in custody won’t drink their urine. ‘‘It goes to show that once you get hooked, it’s so addictive. It’s not going to stop at anything,’’ Farmer said. "nuff said bout that"
  13. We have about 130 members that list Tennessee as their home state. About 53 of these folks do not list a city in their profile. I am curious as to why so many people did not list their city. Are they concerned about giving out this basic information on a public website? I was just looking at how many members we may have in the east Tennessee area and with over 40% not listing their city, I am not sure how many may be from here. RandyA
  14. The wife and I can not get away for anytime to ourselves until the last week of October and we only have about 5 days. I need some suggestions as to where we can go. As some of you know, I live in the north central part of Tennessee. We are not sure if the weather will allow us to ride the bike or not (wife is not a cold weather lady). Any help would be appreciated.
