  1. My wife and I are hoping to do a spring bike trip next year. We hope to start out from Knoxville Tennessee, go over to the Natchez Trace Parkway and ride it south, loop back through Macon Georgia to visit family and then back to the Knoxville area. I was hoping I could get some advice from as to: The earliest we could go next spring and still expect reasonable weather for our ride through Tennessee/ Mississippi/Alabama and Georgia. What we should stop and see along the way Interesting places to stay If there are any detours worth exploring on our route We have done the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway and the "Tail of the Dragon" previously although we may ride the Cherohola again on the way back as it is hard to beat. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim
  2. I have two free tickets to the Easyriders Bike show tour. Good at two locations Feb. 5 2011 Knoxville Tn. @ Knoxville Convention Center or Feb. 11-13 2011 Columbus, Ohio @ Greater Columbus Convention Center First come first served PM me your address and I'll send them right out in the mail.
  3. My PGR buddy Al "War Dog" Burns and his wife Tonya were in a very bad motorcycle accident in Knoxville yesterday, and are in critical condition at University Hospital. Tonya was pronounced dead at the scene. Their kids are either there or are en route, and they may need some assistance with housing, since they are all from out of town and none of them are very well off financially (recent job losses and one who just had cancer surgery). If anyone is aware of some very inexpensive housing/hotel options in that area, please PM me and I'll pass it on to them. Please keep Al in your prayers. Here is the article I found about the accident: http://www.wbir.com/news/article/137882/2/One-dead-one-injured-after-Monroe-Co-motorcycle-accident Thanks.
  4. If you're in Knoxville, TN. You have to come to the bike rally and ride one of these. It's like a religious experience! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/eazyduzzit/329d384b.jpg
  5. I would like to see if any of the folks here from the Knoxville TN area are planning to ride in the Toy Run from Smokies Park this Sunday, October 25th. It would be nice to have a chance to meet before or even after the ride at SMH-D....
  6. I woke up this morning to sunshine just coming up, but within an hour it was gray and gloomy again. I ended up taking a morning nap and again the sun popped out, so I took a ride. I took off toward Knoxville, which is about 100 miles away, on old Highway 11. This is kind of like Route 66 in this is the road you would have traveled if you were going from New York to Birmingham and beyond. It parallels several diferent interstates. Some of it has been moved and four laned, but there are still stretches of two lanes with old stores and motels along the way. After going thru Knoxville, I looped into Townsend and then to Gatlinburg on the narrow two lane thru the mountains. With the rain we have had lately, there was a lot of whitewater flowing. I went thru Gatlinburg and then hit the Foothills Parkway near Cosby over to I-40 and then home. It was a beautiful 260 mile ride and definately lifted my spirits. My 1st fillup at @$2.16 at a Shell station was almost 47 mpg. Here are a few pictures to show what a beautiful day it was. The third picture of the house is zoomed in and the forth picture is the same shot not zoomed. That is what call being off the beaten path. RandyA
  7. If you were on a first generation today at Biker Rags in Knoxville, you left your headlight on.
  8. Took this last Sunday on the Cherahala Skyway,Then the rest of the day was a disaster. The red one fried the electrical system when we started to leave after this picture and I noticed I had a tire problem! We got home at midnight that night after calling family and 2-trailers to come haul us home. The white one had no problems and headed back to Knoxville when he thought we were ok. Oh well mine has new E-3s and the red one is still at Yamaha in Dalton, GA.
  9. It seems like the answer to every engine question on this forum is either "carb sync" or "Sea Foam". My bike is running fine, but at certain speeds/RPMs it seems kinda buzzy for lack of a better word, and I can feel a vibration in the handlebars. I think it should be smoother. I was wondering if there is a kind soul in the Knoxville area who has experience with syncing carbs and wouldn't mind helping me do mine.
  10. Anybody in the Knoxville area going to davecbs m&e tomorrow?
  11. I'm new to this forum and I'm just curious how many active members are from my area. Knoxville, Tn. or surrounding areas.
  12. hi all made it to meadville,pa thursday nite about 6:00 pm only about 250 miles. had wanted to make it a little futher down the road. but after visting the falls it was time to stop. ( sarah's butt was sore ) finaly made it to mother-in-laws in knoxville,tn friday nite around 11:00 pm. over 700 miles in one day, sarah hug in there and did not complain. we had a great time, would do it over again. i wish to thank everyone, ya'll made us so welcome. there are so many people to thank. made so many new friends. leaving knoxville sunday morning will be back to houston monday afternoon. i have more to say when i get home. thanks to all best reguards don c. and sarah now what about that wet t-shirt contest
  13. Currently I am in Pittsburgh until tomorrow evening.. I will be heading out to Fitzgerald Ga. to pick up what I believe to be a 1996 VR that I purchased from Police Dept there. I have spoken a number of times to the Chief of Police there and have been assured that the bike has actually only 4835 miles on it and has been stored indoors for its entire life. The bike was used only for funerals and parades.... neither of which Fitzgerald had a lot of. I will be stopping off in Knoxville Tn Saturday (mom is there) and then heading back out Sunday, then I will be stopping below Macon to pick up a mc trailer that a friend there is selling me and off to Fitzgerald to pick up bike Monday a.m.. The plan is from there to head back to Knoxville (I have two weeks off) then make any repairs, service, oil changes, and general services that the bike may need from lack of use. The tires will probably need changed so the first thing I would need is any info on any good bike shops in knoxville. When I was living in Knoxville 10 years ago there was not such a thing everything we needed done we went to TOMMY THOMPSONS up in Oneida. SO any suggestions of who is good and who is trustworthy would be great. I will be heading back to Cincinnati to begin a work project that will have me all over the state of Ohio and Pittsburgh that will last until Oct. So while in Ohio I would also like trust worthy locations or great new friends that can help work on the bike or work on it in general. They tell me the carbs have an issue I am pretty sure it is from old gas and hoping that seafoam will take care of that part, but sure would be nice to have someone to turn to like the service day they are having in Texas. While in Ohio/Pa I should have a 3 day weekend every week. I will finish up 2-3am on Friday Morn then not go back until 7 pm Monday, so I will have some time to piddle and do a lot of things or travel to where I can get things done.. Thanks in advance for all your great help Don..
