    Gun Club

I know this is off the subject of bikes but since guns seem to come up here frequently I just thought I would post this. Please do not feel obligated, it is our battle but your e-mail would help. On Saltspring we have a Rod and Gun club. A developer has bought the property next door and is trying to have the club shut down. We have been blindsided by the local ruling body ( the Capitol Regional District) in that they are about to pass bylaws which would basically shut down our club so the developer can make himself richer. They are doing this without any consultation with the club or the community. We got notice yesterday ( Monday, Sept 17 ) that they were going to consider this bylaw on Wed Sept 19. This leaves us little time to respond. If you feel like helping e-mail your opinion to the following people. directorjdf@crd.bc.ca directorsgi@crd.bc.ca directorssi@crd.bc.ca ssirodandgun@gmail.com Thanks ...Sailor aka Rainman aka Kerry Butler
  2. It had nothing to do with tonnage and everything to do with the fact she only looked left. She did not look where she was going or to the right. I got the install kit from Carbon one, made it simple. I drilled a hole in the front of the right hand bag and bolted it on there. It is out of the way of the passenger and looks fine.
  3. Something I would definitely check out is the cost of medical insurance and medical care. A couple I know is paying nearly $700.00 per month for medical insurance. Ours just went up to $130.00 per year.
  4. In fact machines with one wheel at the front and two at the back are not very stable. That is why the Morgan sports car started out with two wheels on the front and one in the back as do the new types of three wheelers. With one wheel at the front they are easier to tip in a corner.
  5. I won't expect any surprises.Look how many years it was before they changed the beetle.
  6. I was riding through town when a blond in a big black SUV pulled out of a side road. She turned left and I thought she would pull in behind me. Instead she came across the road directly at me, she was still looking left. She would have hit me if I hadn't leaned on the horn. Instead of stopping or going behind me she drove all the way down the block beside me on the wrong side of the road. New one on me.
  7. I fell asleep on my Yamaha 400 a long time ago. All I remember is coming up to the corner where I was to turn left I blinked and woke up a mile down the road. I had ridden through several corners and down a hill. I had to turn around and go back to get to work.
  8. Been running Avon Venom's for 31 years on my 150 mph Suzuki and on my Venture with no problems at all. They have been realy good.
  9. For anyone who might be interested there is a video of the Saltspring Island Toy Run on you tube. There are also pictures on face book at shutterjunkie and saltspring toy run. I don't know what they are as I am not on face book and don't want to be.
  10. for anyone who is interested check out how New Zealanders send off fallen comrades. Google New Zealanders perform Haka for fallen comrades in Afghanistan. It is a traditional Maori dance of respect.
  11. Yep, just had our Santa toy run here, 120 bikes, two broken Harleys. ,
  12. Yep, my cat would leave a rats ass on the floor beside the bed. Got exciting when I would get up for the 0300 piddle, otherwise I didn't give a rats ass.

    Toy run

Had a great toy run here yesterday. We started with 40 bikes two years ago, got 80 last year and 120 this year. Hoping for 150 next year. Not bad for a small island. Last year we raised $2000 and a truck load of toys for underprivileged kids. I know we did better this year. Got to get a lighter Santa suit though. The one I borrow is heavy duty and it is hot, hot, hot in August.
  14. It is that time again. This Saturday (Aug 26) is the annual Saltspring Island Santa Toy Run. Two years ago we had about 40 bikes, last year we had about 80 and raised $2000.00 for underprivileged kids plus a load of toys. This year we are hoping for about 120 bikes. Friday we are setting up the campground at the Farmers Institute on Rainbow road. Camping for the weekend $10.00 per person for the weekend (Fri to Sun). Registration (free) 0900 to 1100 at the institute. Ride starts at 1100 sharp. Lasts about one hour then biker games at the institute, beer garden, food, vendors, etc. Dinner (1700-1900) slow roasted beef and lamb on a spit, dance 1930-????? Dance only $20.00. I will be the fat guy in the red suit. Info at ssitoyrun@gmail.com
  15. Had a great weekend. Several of us rode from Saltspring up to Gold River on Vancouver Island for the weekend. Went up 19A along the coast then over to Gold River. Weather on Saltspring was great, we got to Campbell river and it clouded over, half way to GR we hit rain. Rained hard overnight. Light rain when we left. Back to cloud on Campbell river and sunshine on Saltspring. Ok, after Nelson and now this I give up, I am going to have to change from Sailor to Rainman.
  16. I like it. During a radio interview on motorcycle safety this spring I stated that "motorcycles are not dangerous, car drivers are dangerous."
  17. OK, what is going on down there? We had friends from Australia visit last month. They had just left when friends from New Zealand came for a visit. After they left two more friends from Australia came by.
  18. Nope, nothing here.
  19. The main problem here is with the gas stations. You never know what quality gas you are going to get. Over the years I have had tanks of bad gas and just so-so gas and ethanol diluted gas. Sea foam fixes the resulting problems.
  20. Had the same problem with my 02. Left parked for a few days the battery would drain. I found that I had to ensure all the audio system was off (cb, radio, tape, intercom) before parking the bike. Problem solved.
  21. Sounds like a place I would rather avoid.
  22. I usually give a bit of a swerve as if I might lose control and they back right off. I was thinking about golf balls. Bigger than bearings but they don't damage the windshield so they can't claim damages or even prove anything happened.

    top gear

Don't know if any of you are familiar with a British car show called Top Gear. It is a great show and I watch it on the computer. Just watched season 17 episode 6. Talk about hero's! A group of amputees wounded in Afghanistan are going to go into the Dakar rally, only the toughest race in the world.
  24. "I put that s**t in everything"
  25. Gotta git me one of those, sure beats taking a ferry or two.
