  1. I have nothing against hunting and would do it myself if my knees allowed it. Many years ago I had my one hunting experience. Four of us went out spread out in line. I came around an outcrop and there was a deer, about 50 feet away. Can't miss. It looked at me then came right up to me. No way could I shoot it. If it came down to survival that deer would be dead. I was chopping firewood one day with my radio blasting good old rock and roll. I turned around and darn near tripped over a big 4 point buck that was lying in the grass about 5 feet behind me. In Canada a 4 point is one that has 4 points on each side. I believe in the US that would be an 8 point?
  2. I totally agree with this guy. Many years ago I applied for a job with the local police. I went for an interview. I am talking mid 70's. During the interview he asked my opinion on pot. I told him it should be legalized and sold with the same restrictions and penalties and taxes as alkohol. He then asked my opinion on harder drugs. I told him I thought hash was ok but cocaine, heroin etc. they should take the users and treat them and take the dealers out into the woods and shoot them. I figured that was it but I got called back for three more interviews. I found out later that there were 400 applicants from police forces from England to Australia and it came down to me and an RCMP officer. He won due to experience. It is clear that even then law enforcement officers knew the " war on drugs" was bs. I had a 1911 Whitehouse cookbook and in the home remedies it suggested you take an ounce of hash and dissolve it in a pint of alcohol and take as needed. All these drugs were legal for thousands of years and there were few problems. The problems came with prohibition and the criminal gangs. Legalize and control drugs and cut off the gangs funding. There is a video called " Grass- The History of Marijuana" everyone should watch it. Politicians and other crooks are the only ones who get rich off illegal drugs.
  3. I wanted the V&H big ovals but I got the LA Choppers because they were half the price. They are not loud at idle or cruising, just a nice rumble, but when you get on it they are really loud. I have even had HD guys comment on how good they sound.
  4. Been watching the show for some time. I think I have seen all of them. Love it!
  5. Just back from England. Rented a car. It took 10 minutes to figure out how to turn it on. Spent 1/2 hour trying to program the GPS. Even the attendant could not help. Gave up and drove to first town with wife navigating. Next day she starts out on the Thames trail so I am on my own with a car that does not like me and a GPS that hates me. Another 1/2 hour and I figured it out. It was easy to follow until it informed me I had reached my destination. I was sitting on a single lane track in the middle of a farmers field without a building in sight.
  6. My wife has a KIA Sedona van with the V6. She loves it. It has been totally reliable and is also the only small van I could sit in comfortably.
  7. Yep, I can believe it. When we re-started the motorcycle toy run on Salt Spring we asked the RCMP to help control the traffic at intersections in the interest of safety. They informed us they had no one available. Later they found officers to patrol the camp ground and set up radar traps on the road to the campground. There were no complaints and no tickets were issued. The next year they refused and the man in charge said they refused to be associated with some biker event. We got volunteers to control the traffic and again there were no complaints and no problems. The RCMP patrolling the campground had nothing but good things to say. The third year we got minimal co-operation out of the RCMP. By the fourth year they were helping out. It took the community and the RCMP officers themselves to convince the guy in charge that it is a good event and beneficial to the community and they looked like idiots for boycotting it. There have never been any problems and the kids have benefited greatly. Look forward to their co-operation next year. As a member of the Defenders Motorcycle Club ( Veterans) I find it offensive that one man can decide to ban people from the parade because they ride motorcycles. I presume some of them are veterans but that is immaterial as they are out there supporting veterans.
  8. Just back from the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the cenotaph. We always have a good turnout and the Legion is full afterward. Last week we put on a Veterans day dinner for all veterans. Got tagged again to do the speech at the high school. The kids are very responsive. Lest we forget.

    OOPS!

Hair today....gone tomorrow. Did the same thing with my beard. For some reason the wife screamed when she saw my naked face for the first time.
  10. Just got back from England. Fuel is about $8.00/gal there. I rented a Hyundai with a tiny diesel engine. Got incredible mileage.
  11. Looking good Rick!
  12. How about "Medication" as in " Sorry, I can't help you move, I'm on medication." "Sorry, I can't work this weekend, I'm on medication.

    Toy Run

Just finished the latest toy run. Had 150 bikes which is not bad for a small island. Anyone interested in seeing the run and parts of the island there are some posts on youtube and also on the toy run website. The run took an hour to complete. The party started Friday and ended Sunday
  14. Did a bit from Flagstaff to Loughlin last year in Dec. Still hot across the mojave.
  15. I went with the Wolo and carbon ones harness. It was easy but I mounted the horn on the front of the saddle bag with lots of silicon sealer. No problems. I do like the horn, it does get attention.
  16. For many years there has been discussion on having Oregon, Washington, B.C. and Alaska form one entity called "Oceana". This usually comes up about election time. It will never happen but it is an intriguing idea. If there are no Elks lodges in Canada I wonder what those lodges are with the big signs saying "Loyal order of Elks" ?
  17. The Elks is not exclusively American. The Elks, Lions, Legion and Moose operate here in Canada as well.
  18. When I was in charge of donations at our local Legion I would be swamped with requests from the big charities who would send what money the organizers didn't take back east to their headquarters where the organizers there would take their cut. I made sure that all donations went to local causes because the money was raised locally and we kept nothing.
  19. Dare I say..."Shi*s that pass in the night"? I said Ships.....what did you think?
  20. Around here bicycles are supposed to follow the rules of the road. This means no passing on the right. Unfortunately few cyclists seem to follow the rules. I just spent two days with the Defenders MC riding escort for the Cowichan MS bicycle ride. Trying to control 300-400 cyclists is like herding cats. Last summer my wife and I visited Sidney BC. It was a Sunday and we sat at a corner cafe and watched the traffic. Of approximately 60 or so cyclists we saw go past only 4 actually stopped at a red light, the rest just blew through it forcing cars to hit the brakes. I saw several ride up Beacon street, which is one way, against the traffic and riding two or three abreast again forcing cars to hit the brakes or swerve into another lane. I saw several cyclists riding on the crowded sidewalk swerving through the pedestrians. Of all the cyclists I saw only the 4 who stopped at the light were wearing their helmets. We are bombarded with articles in the local papers about cyclists demanding their rights and respect. It seems they are unwilling to give to others what they are demanding for themselves.

    Bangkok

Just watched a show on driving there. It is chaotic. It seems 30 motorcyclists per day are killed in Thailand. That is right 30 per day!
  25. It is unusually cold this year. Our automatic furnace starts when SWMBO kicks my butt and tells me to get a fire going.
