Been $1.31/L here for a long time and that is down from $1.40/L. That's about $5.00/Gal.

Only problem with living here is that sometimes I get up and sit on the sundeck in my dressing gown with the newspaper and breakfast. Next thing I know it is lunchtime. I have it on the deck. Then it is supper time, no point getting dressed now. Have supper then sip a Jamesons while watching the sunset. Next day I go riding.

Trouble is I don't think you guys would want to leave afterwards.

Supper time now and the Osprey came back and the Eagle is right behind him. I believe Rick (Silver T) did post some pictures some time back.

I get on with the kick stand down. I plant both feet then she gets on, still with the kick stand down. When she has settled I bring the bike upright and lift the kick stand. To get off ( down Rick) I put the kick stand down and plant both feet. She then gets off ( I said down Rick) and then I get off. ( Now Rick, stop that giggling.)

Was having breakfast and just gazing out the window at the deer. An Osprey (Fish Hawk) came into sight and circled in front of the house then swooped down and caught a fish. An eagle came down and attacked trying to get the fish. The aerial dogfight went on for 2-3 minutes before the Osprey made his escape, still with the fish.

I tried to be gentle with them. I am going on the local radio sometime next week to discuss motorcycle safety and awareness.- 36 replies

The bike was inside a Styrofoam lined box used as a garage. That is what floated. I believe it is a local Victoria HD place that is going to do the restoration. I really would not want it back other than as a conversation piece due to the corrosion. From the picture there is a lot of it.

There is no keeping up with you Rick. Personally I think it is Nina wielding that riding crop that makes you go so fast. Just got today's Victoria Times Colonist. I see they printed my letter.- 36 replies

When I started riding I had a full face helmet. After a few years I got a very fast bike. The adrenalin rush was addictive. I would have it pegged every chance I got. Then I got an open face helmet. I scared myself. I now realized how fast I was going and slowed down. With the full face I felt invincible. With the open face I felt exposed and more vulnerable. Now I have a police style helmet and am content to cruise, mostly. I believe the full face gives the best protection but it also isolates you from what is happening. To each his own.- 36 replies

Sorry Twigg. What I meant was that at speeds of 300 kph a helmet not make much difference when you hit a rock face. Full body armor and prayer won't help. Only the experience to avoid the event , which takes time to gain, would help.- 36 replies

I believe that info is correct. One rider was brand new and they were both on crotch rockets. Helmets would make no difference at those speeds. It is just some polititions grab for emotional headlines.- 36 replies

I'm retired, every day is Saturday. Keep going and one day you too will be retired. What I enjoy is when some one bugs me about being old and I ask them what day of the week it is. When they reply I say " For you maybe, for me it is Saturday":rotf:

It is on the front page of the Times Colonist today. They say they are going to study other places which have graduated licencing. That should take a couple years and several trips to Europe for several politicans. I see they are blaming helmets for deaths. I also see they consulted with the mothers of two kids who got killed. Just what on earth would they know about motorcycles. I did not see one mention of any motorcycle group they consulted. Fired off a letter saying good for graduated licencing, new helmet regulations useless as all helmets must already meet government regulations and the increase in deaths is due to the increase in SUV's and minivans.- 36 replies

Joining up with a new riding group. It is a bunch ( 10-12 ) of guys from the island. They call themselves "SOB's". That is Sailors On Bikes, not what you were thinking.

I am glad to see them finally doing something sensible. Not long ago the government announced a police crackdown on motorcyclists to curb motorcycle deaths. That is kind of like ordering the police to mug tourists so the crooks can't mug them. I wrote a letter that got published in the Victoria Times Colonist pointing out that 70% of bike accidents are caused by car drivers ( The Hurt Report ) and that most police reports blaming the motorcyclist were wrong. The cause of the majority of motorcycle accidents was inattention on the part of the car driver. I also recommended graduated licencing such as they have in Europe. I also said that the rise in deaths was due to the rise in SUV's and minivans on the road (from another study). I never mentioned helmets as they already have to be government approved. We can make a difference when we speak up.- 36 replies

Got the same problem but it only happens when I am sitting still. As long as I am moving, even a little, it shifts easier.

I once caught an oyster. I was trolling for salmon with two lines out. I got a hit on one line so I threw the boat into neutral and played that line and left the other one. After I got the salmon into the boat I went to reel in the other line. There was a dead weight on it. I finally got it up and found the line had crossed an oyster which had clamped shut on it and I had pulled up the oyster and the rock it was attached to. Once I was buzz bombing (Mooching) and I got a hit. It felt like a cod but I knew I was well off the bottom so it could not be that. I was mystified until I got it up to the boat. A duck had taken the lure and would not let go. It was not hooked so when I got it out of the water it finally let go and flew away.

Power up the paint ball Gatling gun you use to mark all the bad car drivers.
