  1. So, I think I blew a fuse for the 12v cigarette plug in the left side of the fairing. No fuse in the "fuse" box. Where might I find this thing hiding so I can replace the dead fuze? Thanks
  2. Hi Everyone. Having recently been stood at the side of the road after a camping trip with a flat battery. (Was my own daft fault) I have added the following system to my bike to top up the battery whilst it is stood in places without power. I have at home an Oxford Oximisor battery tender in my garage but use camping sites with no power on them. I purchased a cheap 12v 100ma solar panel and fitted it with two copper pipe clips with screws and spacers to fit into the panel screw holes which enables me to clip the unit onto the rack on the back of the bike. It can be fitted and face in any direction to catch the sun. I then converted a 12v plug in acccessory unit with a plug that fits my battery tender, you just plug the unit into this and can run 12v items from it or charge a mobile phone, sat nav etc. The unit comes with crocodile clips too so you could charge a loose battery too. I know it is not the ultimate charger nor the ultimate system but it will come in very handy. Neil. (Old Miner) Cost about £20 would be $15 ish.
  3. Got this geared motor at work today from one of the other engineer's. There may be a couple of more available. I don't know what it was intended for. 12V motor, not a servo motor. Only 2 wire input. What can this motor be made to do on a Venture. Really, you know me, I may just try the best ideas. Gary
  4. Anyone out there use the 12V plug at the bottom of the Fairing, as a cigarette lighter? If you did , did you change the amperage of the fuse for that outlet?
  5. Now that I've got the new GW it's time to get my electrical accessories (GPS, XM) installed. In addition, I want to install a 12V outlet for phone charger and air compressor use. There is a 12V acc plug under the left fairing pocket that is only fused at 5A. The instructions with the plug said to change the 5A fuse to 10A. I'm not going to do that. I would like to use the existing power source to trigger a relay that is connected to the battery on a 20A fuse. From the relay I would feed both the GPS and 12V plug. My question is, is there a way to route a wire from the battery to the left pocket without pulling the shelter off? It's hard to believe a bike like this doesn't come standard with a 12V port. Dennis
  6. on 83. Did not notice when last was working (maybe last year), but just finished fuse upgrade and added running/fog light and stebil horn. Running tail light works. Also added 4 relays 1. headlight and acc bypass ignition key switch(at fuse panel){to limit load on key switch} 2. fog light 3. horn 4. spare, not used at this time checked foot brake switch and have 12v on1 side, and 12v on other side when either foot or handle brake applied. 0v when switch normal. CMS no indication of problem. pulled and replaced both brake bulbs, no change removed truck and got to rear 3 wire connector at brake light 12v on blue(running) 12v on yellow(brake) when brake applied//??4v when brake off?? good ground on black temp jumpered power to yellow side of connector and bulbs worked(sockets ok) semi perm installed jumper from rear brake switch output to yellow at brake housing now all works ok, but have CMS fault(tail lts) only when brake applied Thinking lack of current(amps) to drive brake lights due to corrosion or partial open even though I have 12v at brake housing. Unsure why I have 4v when brake off(corrosion )? Probably need to pull seat (if I can remember how) and check underseat harness, but I am suspecting problem with the CMS(such a pain to pull dash) any other ideas?
  7. Wondering if anyone else has had problems with pre-mature H.O. RM Stator failures. Attached pics are of RM Stator installed less than 9 months ago (~10k miles). No warning on the failure... all systems go until voltage dropped to 12V during a PGR ride. Coil resistance measured .1-.3 across the three output wires. 8. I believe this to be a generic electrical question, though this will be applied to 1st gen Venture... want to add a 12v accessory plug, directly wired from the battery through an on/off switch. (1) Should negative be grounded to the bike or should it be run back to the negative batt terminal on the battery? (i'm sure both would work, but what is best?) (2) As far as switches go, how do I make sure and get one that can handle the load. I'm sure they are rated and I know it's 12v but I think amps is what I should be looking for? Ya, electrical stuff, even the simple, has always eluded me. I would rather look ignorant and ask than look stupid after I fry something
