  1. This advisory is new so things may be different now. I think it will be up to the individual business as to if they will accept american cash. I doubt they would refuse it in the major resort areas.
  2. I carry a mastercard for emergencies and use atm for daily expenses. I usually take out enough to last a couple weeks. Whenever we travel in Europe I use the atm's. I think this advisory is for what may be coming down the line. When we were in Puerto Vallarta last time I noticed they had a special number to call to report crooked cops. We really like it down there and have never had any problems, even riding the bus from Malaque to Zehuateneo and back.
  3. I believe there were more than two. Perhaps there are two still existing. There was one driving around in Victoria for a while. I got to check it out.
  4. The cars are worth what someone is willing to pay. No logic to it so far as price goes. The 1%ers never got hit by the depression. It was nearly all the small investors, pension funds, etc. They probably have a business "investing " in car futures in which case the purchase is a write off.
  5. Not too worried about murder etc. That would be like being in Vancouver or Seattle and worrying about some drug dealer being shot in Montreal or Miami.
  6. I have used a debit card in Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, etc with no problems. I rarely use a credit card. I think it is just cash they don't want to take and since the U.S. refuses to accept any other countries cash they do have a point. Not worried about banditos or druggies. I don't have any interest in drugs so won't be dealing with those people or going to the drug farms. A friend from Saltspring was recently murdered in Malaque. He challenged a gun wielding 18 year old thief. I am not too worried. According to statistics in the past four years 42 Canadians have been murdered in Mexico while 448 Canadians have been murdered in Canada. What is the murder rate in the U.S.? We have also been advised we will soon need a passport to travel to Mexico. The times are changing.
  7. FYI Anyone going to Mexico. Just got our tickets to Mexico. Included was an advisory that hotels and businesses may refuse to accept American cash. They will accept credit cards. We are advised to carry Canadian dollars, Pesos or credit cards.
  8. One safety item no one has mentioned, I think, is to use a white helmet. All the motorcycle cops here have white helmets and the car drivers are used to watching for them. I have noticed it myself, I can spot that white helmet even though the bike is hidden. I used to have "fishscale" on my helmet. It is highly reflective multi colored tape. I can't find it any more.
  9. The main cause of apnea is not in the nasal passages but in the throat. At night the throat muscles relax and block off the air. Of course nothing is for sure, I am sure there are some people whose problems are nasal and I think surgery is probably the answer for them. Hey Rocket.....this is almost normal...you didn't know me before. I have realy slowed down, thank goodness.
  10. Want to see some real hairy flying check out videos for Hong Kong airport.
  11. Have had the machine for several years now. Wish I had got it earlier. They did a sleep apnea test on me and I stopped breathing over 400 times a night, almost half of them for two minutes or more. When I was working I would go in and down two extra large coffees with four shots of espresso and two hot chocolates. When I got into the third coffee/espresso it was relatively safe to approach. The first week I used the machine I had vivid technicolor dreams all night long. I could never remember dreaming before. Had to take it in and get the pressure/moisture adjusted a couple of times. I would not be without it now, they tell me I am almost normal now.
  12. If I had that kind of money I would go to other auctions. The cars are every bit as good but the prices are lower. I also don't like the fees charged at Jackson on both the buyer and the seller.
  13. Do not often use the card, usually pay cash which totally throws some clerks. We pay off the card immediately. Haven't paid interest in years but they still keep upping my limit.
  14. It got the names right but there is no picture, just a blur. I know I am kind of fuzzy in the morning but I didn't know it extended to the whole island.
  15. We got about 1 inch yesterday but it is gone now. Forecast is for more tomorrow. I don't mind the snow as much as I mind the idiots out driving in it with their summer tires. We live near the bottom of a steep hill and when there is snow all the idiots go out and pile up at the bottom of the hill. 14 in one hour one winter. I have never had any problems. 4X4 with winter tires, just in case. I was talking to our niece in Calgary yesterday, she was talking -30.

    Fixation

I think most car drivers fixate on where they are going and don't see what is around them.
  17. If it's free you know it is too good to be true, except for stuff on this site.
  18. Yep, I too was suffering plantar fasciitis while in Cody. I soaked my heel in warm Epsom salts alternated with cold water each night. I taped a rolled up sock in the arch of my slippers which I wear around the house and that gave a lot of relief. I also took anti inflammatorys but don't know how much they helped. It has been ten months now and it is almost all gone. Still get sore after walking a while. Heel spurs are different. They are bone growths which appear on the back of your heel. Plantars fasciitis is an inflammation of the tendon which goes under the heel. Either one is very painful.
  19. Not a plumber but to me the best choice would be replacement of the fitting. Second choice is to go to your nearest boating supply store. You can get repair epoxy which comes in stick form. Simply cut off what you need and massage the two parts together then mold around the seam. It dries hard and waterproof and can even be used underwater. I have used it on my boat and on plumbing in the house.

    Keys

On my 02 I got two identical keys that operated everything. Check your bike thoroughly for any signs of hidden damage. Sounds like parts have been replaced to me.
  21. A few years ago I had my card compromised. The first I knew was when MC investigators phoned me here on Saltspring Island to ask if I had been in New Delhi buying things the day before. After that I had a distance limit on the card. I could not use it more than 100 miles from my home unless I phoned them first to tell them where I would be ( eg England) and the dates. When this card was compromised the guys were 50 miles from my home.
  22. I want them to put the chip in my head so I can just think about buying stuff without actually doing it.......Oh, wait a minute....I already have one.
  23. Going through the Deas Island tunnel I got tagged for 62 in a 60 zone. I was used to it. At that time anyone driving a sports car was a prime target. In Vancouver I got tagged for 31 in a 30 zone. Even the cops admitted they had been told to target sports cars.
  24. I got my Mastercard bill for Dec and found a charge for something I knew nothing about. An outfit called Safe Cart had billed me $44.00. I checked online and it seems there have been a lot of complaints about this outfit for false billing and not delivering goods or delivering defective goods. MC confirmed there had been no activity on my card at that time. They pulled the card number off the internet somewhere. I now have a new card and MC is investigating.
  25. In Vancouver. A few years ago an East Indian was driving a dump truck towing a trailer. He was not qualified to be driving that rig. He plowed into some cars and killed someone. The judge let him off. Why? The poor man could not read English and the road signs confused him.
