  1. I have been playing for 30+ years have several vintage guitars and a fender tweed amp....cough, a real 1959 one. I'm no pro but purty good. Blues mostly but can do other stuff as well. Keep at it, its a good hobby and H of RS is a great song to practice over and over. You can make that very complexed or simple. It may be the perfect practice song. Plus it's cool.
  2. We can not stress this enough. If you need to go right. Push on the right hand grip. If you need to go right real bad...push hard and look where you want to go. Trust the bike it will go where you want. But you must not be afraid to lean it over, in a emergency. Low speed practice in a parking lot is recomended also. Also keep your speed down until you are comfortable on your scoot. Welcome, and have fun.
  3. 2 years ago, when I got the bike, I did about 3000 miles in the winter months. Because the bike was new to me and a need to clear the mind from time to time. Next winter about 1500. This year I think its gonna be once a month I'll get her out and ride her for a couple hours. To keep her happy. Its nice today here in Philly. So I'm think I might go out. I have all the non electrical gear. And I'm warm until it goes down below 32 or so. I have taken the big girl over some small patches of ice. She wants to go down as soon as you touch that stuff. Dont even mess around with a ice patch on a VR. Avoid them at all costs. I did not go down. She would have sliped out from under me but the ice patch was only about 3 inches wide and the tire grabed when it slid off the ice.
  4. Run "Malwarebytes" or "SuperAntiSpyware", the free versions. Very good programs. Also a thing called "Kaperskys TDSS remover", has done wonders when I did get a google highjacker. Anything I did a search for got taken off to some weird page. And malwarbyte etc. would not run, unless I renamed them. This thing was nasty. The MS one is good too. Good luck. I bet its still lurking on your puter, So you need to do a scan......
  5. I just changed the oil in my bike. WM was out on the rotella 15-40 dino so I went with the DelVac 1300. It was 11 bucks I think. Bike likes it too. I have tryed most of the fleet oils in the bike. They all work well, shifts smoother with the rotella and the DelVac I think. I use the NAPA #4933 oil filter for my 88 each change. The NAPA branded stuff I just drained, did great also. Looked new after 3500 miles on it. I was happy to see very little shaving in the old oil.
  6. Welcome, Cliff. Your gonna love the Venture, once you get settled in. Check the age of the tires on it. And if they are Brickstones or Metz. I would replace them with Dunlop E3s. Watch out for pebbles in the parking lots and driveways. They will make you slip if your pushing her back from a parking spot or something. Learn how to pick it up...if it should fall over etc. Theres a video on youtube on how to pickup a big bike. A women does it in the vid, the Vent is way heavyer than that sporty.
  7. Since I started running some Startron thru my 88 a couple tanks ago. She takes the gas way better. If shes being sneaky and running on 3cyl. 85mph is about it. But riding around town and such you'd never know it. Last time I did a "test" the front end was coming up more on the shifts, and I rolled off at about 95mph with the needle climbing rapidly...lol I was surprised at the extra get up and go. Plus driving around the back roads she just glides. Star tron works. Also coming back from NYC on the expressway, I did 85/90 for a hour straight with plenty of twist left. The bike was never happyer, then on that run. Loves the slabs. I'm think 125mph is NP. But, I'm not going there...lol:no-no-no:
  8. In my town I saw a teenager on a pretty nice custom chopper bicycle. He had a german helmet. denim jacket, beads, shades. It's quite a sight...lol I'll try and get a pic of him. Its almost youtube stuff
  9. I went to pepboys and got a 20 dollor universal jap one. Seems to work fine, screwed right on with the included adapters.
  10. ATGATT and love it. I'm def more at ease with my gear on. Lets me enjoy the ride.
  11. My last oil change I went with the NAPA 15-40w. It was about the same price as the rotella but saved me a drive. It's made by Valvoline and the bike seems to like it just fine.
  12. Its probably running on 3 cyl. Fire her up and quickly feel the pipes one at at time. One will be colder if its not fireing. I would change any fouled plugs and try this new stuff called "Startron" Its sold at wallmart in my area. I put it in the Van, the bike, and the lawn mower, And they all are running noticably better. If worked fast too. I love seafoam too, But this stuff seems to be the real deal also. Its a E-10 and water treatment plus it cleans also..
  13. You need a good pair of boots on too. Nice thick sole. Right hand on passenger handle, left hand on handle bar. Both CS feet touching then push like hell down on the horn while pulling back alittle. She should go up.
  14. I have a 512 stick of pc133 if you want it...I cant use it anymore. I have a couple other parts for that era computer also. You do need more RAM in that box. Also CrapCleaner does well with cookies and stuff. My newest find is "Kasperkys TDSS remover'. I had the google search highjack rootkit. This app saved me, from a reload. I also run SuperAntiSpyware Pro, and Malwarebytes free.
  15. My buudy bought one off CL. I told him to pass cause I thought it shifted sloppy. But he got it anyway paid too much I think at $1500.00. But after I took off the cheap Markland floorboards and got some air in the tires. It rode pretty good. He rode it twice I think and dont like the big bike thing. He has a sportster, which is nice. So he's selling this one. It needs tires I guess and the radio dont work. But it starts right up. Seems to run good. Valve taps a little. But with these motors you have to adjust them from time to time. So Ive heard...lol Let me know if anybodys interested. I'm thinking its a 1000 dollor bike?
  16. Yes, either go to a indy shop or take em off yourself. I have done it twice so far. Using the directions I found here. Takes about a hour or so the first time. You will need a tie down strap and foot long piece of 1x1 to hold the front up once your up on the center stand. I put it under the cross bar above the oil filter to lift the front tire up off the ground. Then you ease the forks down,,,with a helper. onto something that wont damage the fork ends. We got your back. Screw the stealer..... Oh yeah.... I suggest the Dunlop E3s. Edit: The 2nd time I did it I took off the left side bag and muffler. It made it a easyer job, to torque the axle nut etc. Good time to change the fuel filter too.

    Virago's

Everything sounds great, they are smooth rides. Check the dates on those tires, make sure they are not too old. Have fun.
  18. I just got back from wally world with the 20 dollor cover and a bottle of startron. The cover is better made than the last one I got from them. Not much but a little better. Its a good deal for 20 bucks imho. I wanted to try this startron stuff too. If it does what they say its a bargain, because of the low dose you use.
  19. I was a big beer hound till I was 40. I quit cause it was too much work and money to continue. After 10 years of no booze, I now can have a beer or two without any danger of going back to the darkside....lol I will have a real beer or two on a MC ride, from time to time. With lunch etc. Most times I get a Odouls' Amber if they have it. I would not slam 3 pints of some imported high gravity beer and get on the bike. Back in the day, on my 12 speed bike, One night I could not walk straight after leaving the bar. I got on the bicycle and rode home 5 miles with no crashes....I think.
  20. I was at my computer when my neighbor PMed me and said "turn on the TV" The rest is history. I will never forgive, or forget. I rode my MC to the anti ground zero mosque protest. At GZ. The bike was amazing, it just loves the super slabs. And I was going way faster then I usually do. But the turnpike was moving fast and the bike felt safe and secure at 85 for most of the way. The E3s were great also. I drove right into Manahttan, found a great parking spot and had a great time with my fellow Americans.
  21. I need one too.....lol! Lost mine, I have no CB radio on my bike. I have a 88 standard Venture. I was wondering if I could get something from the autoparts stores. That will screw on an not look too funny.
  22. When I decided to get a MC. Those were the bikes I was looking at. Was the best I could get in my price range. until I got a deal on my 88 Vent. I found this site from the xs11 guys. Those two look nice. Like the midnight more. I was actualy look for a xj1100 cause it was more of a tourer, I guess.
  23. My buddys sportster has the 1200 heads and the stage 1 kit on it. Its not a dog, but it's no match for my 88, after the second or third telephone pole.
  24. I just put E3s on my 88 and I love them. Bike turns better, smoother ride...etc. I had Kendas on before these and the E3s just feel like a step up. Everything is better handling wise, slow, fast, twistys. all way better.
