So i felt the bike was in good enough working order to to a speed test. I heard they will only do about 85mph if running on three cylinders, at 105 and rising i backed off. I pretty sure 115/120 was doable, not going there lol. Also I found my slow leak on my back tire. It was the valve guts. tightened it up and no more leak. Its so simple sometimes.

I replaced the rad cap with the auto zone one. Made a big difference. shes way happier.

Just did mine wasn't too bad.There is a vid on utube that is a pretty good guide. I wound up replacing , the mech seal, the oil seal, the metal bearing, two cir clips and the two orings for the elbow. You need the gasket also. I used a little makeshift press. as shown in the video , to press the bearing in. Also I had to buy Yamalube #4 to seal the mech seal. I used electical tape and oil to make sure the threads on the bolt did not scratch the oil seal.....Important not to bugger up seal. good luck. If you don't have the shop manual and parts list, do download them. Very helpful info in them.

I got it to turn about halfway where it needs to go, before i chewed the nut up so bad i cant get a good bite any more. Gonna look on ebay for a used whatever they call this piece. Looks like rebuilding a used one and just swaping out the whole tube, is a easy way to go. I hit the waterpump with a temp gun and she was sitting at 165f or so. So at least things arent way out of control.

OK I snapped the screw off...It looked like it was turning before it broke. Valve nut wont spin.. Questions will ensue.....

I checked my bypass valve today. Its in the wrong position. I must have turned it when i drained the system. I think tomorrow when i fix it Ill have my temp gauge back?

I cleaned it up crimped it a couple times now. No luck. Fan comes on and off, doesn;t seem to be running real hot. But I'll keep at it till I get my temp gauge back. When I turn the key to ON the needle goes up slightly then sits back down.....

Im back in the wind! Bikes running good. Still cant get the temp gauge to work.

I put all the fairing stuff ,windshield and one side crash bars, all i have to do is fix my shifter goof up. I ordered new gaskets, coming next week.

Thanks guys, just the stuff i need to know. Update: lights out now. Waiting on new gaskets to do the shifter fix. Im pretty excited. have not rode in a year. Too long my friends, but i took it as a sign when the starter and waterpump went at the same time. Decided to just sit out last year and take my time fixing her. Now Im ready to get back in the saddle....lol

My starter clutch and waterpump rebuild worked, but i put the side cover on without the shifter thru the hole. Took it off and re did it . BUt i think i twisted the shifter linkage up. Wont shift seems to be binding. So I'll have to take cover off again to get it moving right. When i started it up the oil light stayed on, so i took off the filter and turned it over and it was pumping oil out the little hole where the oil filter goes, put my thumb on it and it seemed to have good pressure. So im wondering if my oil sensors messed up or i have a clog some wheres. No clacking or chain noise and i ran it a while idling and also the water temp gauge does not come up much now im hoping that's because of the pump rebuild. If you guys have some tips and or insights let me know. The good news is no water in the oil now and she started right up after sitting a while too. so im making progress. Thanks.

Honestly there is no reason to by a "new" MC, Get a low mileage 1st gen for 2 grand and ur good to go. Got mine cheap, got her st8, been ten year s now i think. Never gonna need a another bike. As far as mama yama saying bla bla bla. Vtwin.... I mean I would never be able to afford one, but can you imagine that VMAX 1700 in a touring package bike OMG. BMW, Guzzi, Triumph, Honda. would all poop their pants. I think its coming. They have to do it.

I'll admit it. I'm a "potion" fan. My straight 6 in my van loves the stuff. Runs better and much quieter. the bike likes it to, less noise etc. So yeah I like MMO. Dont over do it in the bike I heard it will turn your plug tips redish if you do.

I had kinda the same problem, I got a set of the caps and wires off ebay. Problems solved. Had the green rot on one coil, had to clean the spike where the wire goes in. Best thing I ever did to the bike. She really goes now and I'm getting 45-50 miles per gallon.

LOL!...."Its alive!" No, I just put the Rotella dino in the bike. Its really likes this stuff. Quite, smooth, seems to be just a tad better than the others.

Saw a guy on one, he had it all decked out with wind screen, hard bags etc. Was a pretty kool looking mini bagger. I thought it was a 250cc virago but no. Its was a Hyosung I think.

so lucky... i got mine for 1500 bucks off CL. was nice, not as nice as yours. Have fun, and respect her. They are fast and heavy, low speed parking lot stuff is your hardest hurdle. Bike is a wee bit top heavy. My bike does not owe me a dime, had her a while now. At this point its gonna outrun me.......

I fired her up and took a good 40 min putt before she dragged me into the local tappie, she ran great and everyone is happy. Oil change soon.

Yo, I have ran just about all the 15-40s I could find. The bike shifts abit smoother with the Rotela in it. Right now I think its got Valvoline in it. Was at NAPA to pickup oil filters and saw it on the shelf "onsale" So, yeah any of them is fine.

Yeah its a pipe dream i guess. But I wanted to be part of the "meat shield" I'm close enough to go down make a day of it and putt back. Take the really warm sleeping bag just incase...lol:amen:
