  1. Funny, scott Slivers just gave me your link also, I will give you a call monday, thanks
  2. does anyone know of a Mechanic in the Detroit Metro area that works on these bikes? I have an 83 Venture and I'm working too much to finish it, it needs some carb work, and maybe some other minor work
  3. That would be great, I know Gary was hoping to go for a ride but I kind of ran out of time, but It would be awesome to do a venture group ride up here, in the fall the colors are awesome and we could do a really nice ride up by Traverse city and along the west coast of the mitten
  4. Well, thanks to Gary, the carbs are synced, they were way out, still think a rebuild will be needed over the winter but it is running much better, also thanks to everyone else that has offered help and or advice, big thanks to Pat O'carroll and to Skydoc for all their help and patience getting this beast running. This site has been a huge help in getting it running, best $12 I've spent in a long time Reading the tech articles it seems that the diaphragms are available for these old bikes, I would just like to confirm that the ones in the tech article in the first gen thread, the ones on Ebay for $90 I think it was, are the correct ones for my old bike, if so I think I'll go ahead and replace them while doing the carb rebuild over the winter
  5. Thanks, I looked over the list and sent a few PM's, hopefully someone will be able to lend a hand
  6. Happy Birthday, hope its the best one yet
  7. Good day, I'm wondering if there are any Venture riders in SE Michigan that may be able to help me with my carbs, I would like to check the sync on the carbs and do not have the tools or the experience to do it, would anyone here be willing to lend a hand, I'll bring the beer (or whatever ) If anyone is willing and able to lend a bit of time and a hand please let me know when you might be available Thank you in advance Mike 83, 1200 Venture
  8. Thanks for the tip, that makes sense, hopefully that takes care of the leak, as that is the last major issue
  9. I just did this mod on my 83, made the rear super easy to get working, my fronts work pretty good but I'm planning on rebuilding the MC over the winter as my lever goes soft after holding it on for a few min. already rebuilt the calipers. Good luck with your project, they are a fun bike to work on and very satisfying to get running and riding

  11. Well thanks for all the suggestions, the brakes are doing ok, now, not perfect but useable, as far as the oil leak I think I'm going to take the side cover back off and this time I'll use some gasket sealer on the paper gasket, I did not use any the first time and think that may be part of the issue
  12. ok cleaned it off and it looked like it was just coming out of the cover so I tightened up the bolts on the side cover a bit more and especially the bottom one with the copper washer and that seems to have slowed the leak down to a drip or two overnight so I may give them another little touch to try to get that last little drip cleared up. Still fighting the front brakes, thought I was making progress as the front wheel was stopping with the brakes and then all of a sudden it seems to have lost it again and I'm back to nothing in the front, going to try to reverse bleed them tonight and hopefully that will help, else its a master cyl rebuild
  13. So finally got the bike out for a short ride around the hood last night, still having front brake issues but they seem to be getting better so I'll keep bleeding them, anyway woke up this morning and found a pretty good oil leak on the left side of the bike, any suggestions on how to determine where it is leaking from? I did remove and replace the side cover where the slave cyl is, is it possible that the gasket didn't seal up well there? any tips on getting a old paper gasket to seal up?
  14. Thanks for the tips, going to try the Novus stuff first, hopefully I have as good a luck as some of you have had with it
  15. I have an 83 VXZ1200 and the windshield has a nasty film all over it and when I try to get it off I end up scratching the plastic shield, is there a place to get a replacement windshield for the original fairing on these old boys?
