  1. Funny, scott Slivers just gave me your link also, I will give you a call monday, thanks
  2. does anyone know of a Mechanic in the Detroit Metro area that works on these bikes? I have an 83 Venture and I'm working too much to finish it, it needs some carb work, and maybe some other minor work
  3. That would be great, I know Gary was hoping to go for a ride but I kind of ran out of time, but It would be awesome to do a venture group ride up here, in the fall the colors are awesome and we could do a really nice ride up by Traverse city and along the west coast of the mitten
  4. Well, thanks to Gary, the carbs are synced, they were way out, still think a rebuild will be needed over the winter but it is running much better, also thanks to everyone else that has offered help and or advice, big thanks to Pat O'carroll and to Skydoc for all their help and patience getting this beast running. This site has been a huge help in getting it running, best $12 I've spent in a long time Reading the tech articles it seems that the diaphragms are available for these old bikes, I would just like to confirm that the ones in the tech article in the first gen thread, the ones on Ebay for $90 I think it was, are the correct ones for my old bike, if so I think I'll go ahead and replace them while doing the carb rebuild over the winter
  5. Thanks, I looked over the list and sent a few PM's, hopefully someone will be able to lend a hand
  6. Happy Birthday, hope its the best one yet
  7. Good day, I'm wondering if there are any Venture riders in SE Michigan that may be able to help me with my carbs, I would like to check the sync on the carbs and do not have the tools or the experience to do it, would anyone here be willing to lend a hand, I'll bring the beer (or whatever ) If anyone is willing and able to lend a bit of time and a hand please let me know when you might be available Thank you in advance Mike 83, 1200 Venture
  8. Thanks for the tip, that makes sense, hopefully that takes care of the leak, as that is the last major issue
  9. I just did this mod on my 83, made the rear super easy to get working, my fronts work pretty good but I'm planning on rebuilding the MC over the winter as my lever goes soft after holding it on for a few min. already rebuilt the calipers. Good luck with your project, they are a fun bike to work on and very satisfying to get running and riding

  11. Well thanks for all the suggestions, the brakes are doing ok, now, not perfect but useable, as far as the oil leak I think I'm going to take the side cover back off and this time I'll use some gasket sealer on the paper gasket, I did not use any the first time and think that may be part of the issue
  12. ok cleaned it off and it looked like it was just coming out of the cover so I tightened up the bolts on the side cover a bit more and especially the bottom one with the copper washer and that seems to have slowed the leak down to a drip or two overnight so I may give them another little touch to try to get that last little drip cleared up. Still fighting the front brakes, thought I was making progress as the front wheel was stopping with the brakes and then all of a sudden it seems to have lost it again and I'm back to nothing in the front, going to try to reverse bleed them tonight and hopefully that will help, else its a master cyl rebuild
  13. So finally got the bike out for a short ride around the hood last night, still having front brake issues but they seem to be getting better so I'll keep bleeding them, anyway woke up this morning and found a pretty good oil leak on the left side of the bike, any suggestions on how to determine where it is leaking from? I did remove and replace the side cover where the slave cyl is, is it possible that the gasket didn't seal up well there? any tips on getting a old paper gasket to seal up?
  14. Thanks for the tips, going to try the Novus stuff first, hopefully I have as good a luck as some of you have had with it
  15. I have an 83 VXZ1200 and the windshield has a nasty film all over it and when I try to get it off I end up scratching the plastic shield, is there a place to get a replacement windshield for the original fairing on these old boys?
  16. Thank you, got it apart and cleaned up, it is functioning now, still need to bleed the rest of the air out I think, or should I say hope, I really dont want to fight to get that slave cyl off. I'll try to brake thing as soon as I can get the rear brakes working
  17. well as an update to the clutch, I found the last 6" piece of line was plugged, luckily I have a replacement, so now I am able to pull the lever and feel like I have a clutch, but I tried and start the engine and pulling in the clutch doesnt disengage the engine/trans, in other words the back wheel spins, could this be that I need to bleed it more or possibly a different issue?
  18. hello again, still can not get the clutch slave cyl out, the bolts are frozen, but while looking into this more I found the clutch master cyl may be messed up, first off I pulled the lever off and the little piston only moves about 1/4 of an inch if that, is that the normal stroke of the plunger? it seems it should move more than that? Second part today is how does one get the assembly #2 in the picture out to rebuild it http://www.partshark.com/oemparts/a/yam/5004247ef8700209bc787e4b/front-master-cylinder-2. Also when I tried to reverse bleed the clutch I get no fluid movement, nothing I do will get fluid to pump back into the master cyl from the bleed screw, could this be the front master cyl being frozen? Also still fighting with the rear brakes, rebuilt the rear master cyl and I get fluid out if I pump it with no hoses on it, but I never get any fluid out the the calipers, I rebuilt the rear caliper, still no fluid, even bought a vac pump and not having any luck getting fluid to the rear caliper
  19. wow I am amazed and thankful for all the support on this forum, I found out how hard it is to get the slave off, broke an allen wrench trying and stopped, any tips you can provide would be greatly appreciated Also any tips on getting the final gear case oil fill plug out, mine is really frozen in Condor: I received the bike and the clutch is dry so I assumed it leaked, I would think after sitting dry for who knows how long the seals are gone?? Skydoc Thanks for the tips on the brakes, I will pm you as I get further into this to discuss the brakes a bit more Thanks again to everyone for all the tips and suggestions, I'm glad I found this group
  20. Any suggestions as to where I might find a new or rebuilt slave?? also the rear brake master cyl? If I can get something newer to replace them I would rather go that route
  21. I was given a 83 Venture VXZ1200 and it has two issues, first is the clutch has no fluid in it, looks like it had a leak and thats where I'm getting stumped, I cant find where the hose goes after it goes into the handlebars, where does it connect the the actual clutch? and suggestions as to what may have caused the leak? The second issue is the rear brakes went out on the bike (hence the reason the original owner parked it 7 years ago) after digging into it I found the rear master cylinder has frozen up, I think it is easiest if I just replace it, any suggestions on acquiring a rear master cylinder and reservoir as the screws are frozen on the reservoir, or maybe just replacement screws and I can drill the screws out. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions Mike
