I pump my rear shock at 35 lbs. with only me at 170 lbs. With 2 up, I put at least 40 lbs. and it feels just fine. +1 on checking underneathe the bike and trace where that oil came from. As mentioned earlier, the crankcase may be overfilled. You may have a great catch there. The color and low mileage is great. I now have about 5K miles on my '07 that I got last October '08. Ride Safe.

16K Mile maintenence...How Much?
N3FOL replied to Richb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I am not mistaken, spark plug replacement is recommended every 8K miles. Valve Adjustment is somewhere around 26K miles. Some say that they had their valves checked at around 26K and everything were in spec. -
I just switched to Regular 2 full tanks ago to see what the difference is, if any. I've been using Mid to Premium grade fuel ever since I got my Venture. So far, there is no difference in performance that I can tell. It may be regular for the rest of the summer.

Yamastretch, if your gas mileage is on the high 20's to low 30's, it is not very good. I think my '07 and your '99 is not that much different and I already got 40.5 mpg on my last tank now that the weather is warmer (70 mph on highway measured via GPS). During the winter, my lowest mpg is 38 and that is riding at 20 degree temps in the am. I would say change out your plugs and gap correctly, since your bike is back firing time to time as you stated. Synch once again and hope your mpg goes up. Don't neglect to check your tire pressure and as you know very well that this may also affect mpg in some way or form. IMO, your mpg should be around in the low 40's riding conservatively. Good Luck and ride safe.

Who spilled Spaghetti on your bike? I think I know exactly what your wiring problem is ... it is that wire 2nd to the left...I think it is yellow.

has anyone ever bought directly from morgan carbtune?
N3FOL replied to big mike's topic in Watering Hole
Same here...ordered directly from them and am very satisfied with the product. Tomorrow, I am helping a co-worker synch the carbs and check idle on this RSTD. It should be fun. -
$400 bucks...I can buy at least 3 Rear tires for that price. krp41151, get all the basic tools that you may need to take of the tire...If you have the Carbon One jack adapter already, to me that is 50% of your worries solved. Dig into past threads in this forum for assistance. Lots of information to walk you through in terms of removing the rear tire and have someone mount and balance it.

Awesome mileage really...26K is hard to beat. The most mileage I got on a rear tire is 16K and that was too close for comfort. If only I can change a moto tire on the side of the road then I just might run my rear tire close to bald. E3's sounds like a good tire. Ride safe

I simply carry a small block of wood, if I have to park on asphalt. I've never really used it yet, but just in case.

Congrats on the new Ultra! There is no doubt you own one of the best looking bike out there.

Congrats on the nice find, ReinyRooster. 13K miles is very low mileage for a 2000 bike. I've owned my Venture for about 7 months now and may surpass 5000 miles next month. BTW, did anybody mention pics....yes sir...I do want to see pics of your new ride. Regards.

throttle play..end to end..
N3FOL replied to hoghead's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My accelerator throttle play has increased a little. I know because when I got my bike last October compared to today, it feels like it has more throttle play to it. Is this adjustment or throttle play check / adjustment (if needed) covered under my factory warranty?- 8 replies

Glad to hear that everyone had a great time with the meet. But I was hoping to see some pics...care to share the sights of the ride?

Sorry to hear about your spill on gravel, Kenny. Give your ankle time to heal and apply pressure and some homebrew physical therapy will streghthen your ankle muscles. Regards to your wife and am glad that she did not get hurt. Regards.

I have an '07 and have not experienced what you guys had described. At low and high speeds, my bike runs a straight line. At highway speeds, I can take off both hands for a few seconds (not recommended) and the bike will not pull to the left or right. Could it be that the air pressure on the forks are uneven?
-
It looks tight under there, but it is nice to know that the engine mounts will need to be removed. I know my air compressor will have to be used first to blow away all the dust and dirt that may have settled near the plug wells. For spark plugs, I may simply install regular plugs as recommended by Yamaha. Our local Advance Auto can order plugs for me anytime. Thanks for your input.

SOUNDS like a true happy ending.

Sounds like a good idea. Plugs are not that expensive. I have over 4K miles on my plugs and may very well replace plugs by mid-summer. As for the 2 front plugs, did you have to remove the fin bracket in order to have access with the wrench?

I 2nd the idea of a one gallon container that is made specifically for flammables. It is plastic and small enough that it can fit anywhere in the Venture bags. If you are travelling alone, a 2 gallon container is a good choice and I would just put it behind you on the passenger seat.

I smoked cigarettes back in High School more during my Jr. year. I've tried alcohol as well. It is the best thing ever invented until you start to throw up. Fortunately, I never really liked smoking in college and now in my adult life. I'd rather spend my money on Bling and feel healthy. I still have to witness a rider on his bike and smoking a cigarette at the same time.

I am keeping an eye on this thread. Am also interested on what works aftertermarket wise for a LED strip that can be installed as a replacement to the OEM LED on the wing. Has anyone checked with Custom Dynamics strips?
