  1. Got it BuddyRich. I now understand the concept. As we talk more about valve adjustment, someone may be able to put together an Excel file and list parts and part numbers and where to buy them for parts needed to be replaced ie: gasket, RTV, etc. Do you know if there is a pic of an opened 'valve cover' on the Venture floating around in this forum? I'm curious how it looks like in there.
  2. Thanks Ponch for enlightening me. That now makes sense to me...so the crank is turned in order to lift the cam and remove the shim.
  3. If it is the 35-2629 or the other part to the right of it, how in the world would you hold the tool and lift the cam lobe...is the stem long enough for leverage?
  4. Perhaps you can add 2 more and face them on the side as side markers.
  5. I agree with Goose's input. If you overfill the tank and park under the sun, the tank will build a little pressure, as a result, gas may drip down the tank vent hose. I realized this phenomenon on my Vulcan and I really thought that I was leaking fuel.
  6. I think I saw somewhere in this thread that there is a total of (16) Shims, 4 Shims per jug? Am I right?
  7. I think I have the 35-2629 in my tool box. So, I may have missed it...what exactly is the type of Shim Tool (part #) for the 2nd Gens?
  8. How about a pic of your Tappet / Shim holder.
  9. With my experience with overhead gaskets, but not on motorcycle gaskets, I recommend applying a small amount of RTV on the bends of the gasket and not so much on the straight sections as well and off course the lump sections will need RTV.
  10. Great list! If I am not mistaken, the special tool to lift the cam is called a Tappet Adjusting Tool Part # 90890-04105.
  11. I can't remember what thread I read this post, but if I can recall the cruise control will not engage if travelling at a slow speed below 50 to 60 mph and not on 5th gear. (I may be wrong, but something to think about)
  12. White Lithium Grease will do the trick.
  13. In the early 90's, a company in Cincinnati made a video on how to perform valve adjustments, replace timing belt, etc. on a Taurus SHO. I bought one and it is always a nice refresher to watch before I attempt another valve adjustment/check. If a video can be made for the Venture, I will for sure buy one.
  14. I own a 95 Taurus SHO and had done my valve adjustment 2X on the Taurus. This Taurus has a Yamaha engine, so I have a feeling that the shims my car use is similar to the Venture. I also have a special tool to lift the cams in order for me to have access to the shim. Not sure if it is the same special tool that I can use for the Venture. If the Shims are the same, I now have a complete set including used ones that I replaced. If you have pics of the special tool and shim, I may be able to compare it with what I have.
  15. No doubt...very nice ride. Congrats.
  16. That what we call a true Venture rider.
  17. Wonder what kind of accessories they sell for the Venture ?
  18. Seaking...We just bought my son a FF HJC helmet and I was surprised on how much space the rider may have in front of the face. So, this FF helmet may work for you. I always wear FF ever since and my brand is Arai, the shape of my head and face and the Arai helmet is just perfect. Happy shopping.
  19. Congrats on your successful Passing Lamp installation job. The bike sure is more noticeable with those extra lights in front. As a habit before I turn off my engine, I always switch off my passing lamps. I don't know, perhaps it is just me...hoping my passing lamps will last longer.
  20. 290K miles on an '01 is hard to beat. I thought my 95 Taurus SHO that had just broken 200K miles is on top.
  21. I think that bottom line here is that it shall be covered under warranty. That is all I need to know, if I have problems with my wheel bearings within 5 years of my purchase date. I agree that no one should pay a single dime for a warranty work unless you want your bearings chromed or gold plated.
  22. My guess would be a leaking valve gasket.
  23. I've had some experience installing a crankshaft seal using a similar technique you just described. How about to remove the old bearing? What is the trick to this? Special Tool? Just curious.
  24. Sounds like a 32 LED Custom Dynamics board is going For Sale soon. I do like my 32 LED board and is already super bright...with 90 LEDs, that may look like you are already on your brakes and much brighter when the brakes are applied. Congrats on the safety mod.
