Check the idle speed before Carbtune
Marcarl replied to Canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It's not super important but you should be in and around the 900 to 1000 mark. If you can do this constantly during the adjustment of the 4 carbs you should be ok. This can only work if you have a carbtune, that is you have 4 separate gauges,,, if someone should have a homemade one like I got with only 1 gauge then RPM's become very important. -
I have my driving lights wired separately from my head light, on a separate switch and all. On the issue of having the high beam during daylight hours, I would like to know if this is found to be offensive. I personally don't find the high beam bothersome during the day, in fact when I see a scooter with the high beam on, I say: thankyou, you are riding saver than most, because I have no problem seeing you.

For me, I think that the most important part of headlight use is to be able to see in the dark, and see as well as possible. So I do the 25' thing to get to a standard and then I go for a ride in the dark and adjust it so that I get all the benefit I can from that wee little bulb. Too high and you loose in the highbeam section and too low you can't see anything when the high beam is off, so somewhere nicely inbetween. I also use driving lights and aim them the same way, using the low beam only, again, too high is no good and too low is a waste as well. I always have my driving lights on, always,, daytime or night and the only time I use low beam is when I'm meeting someone at night, the rest of the time it's driving lights and high beam. As I meet other riders I look at their scoots and if they are only using the low beam,,,it doesn't stand out, but if they have their high beam on,,, there is no question that there is something there. My Point>>>>>BE SEEN AS BEST AS POSSIBLE

Computer Guru Needed
Marcarl replied to FROG MAN's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Wow, now if you know all the terminology that is being used and you can find the parts that they're talking about, you might discover your answer. If all else fails, just get up and walk over to the neighbors and talk to them in person.- 10 replies

If you don't come up with an answer from somebody else, what some guys have done and still do I suppose, is to take some #14 copper wire, stripped of the insulation, and wind that around the pipe where the gasket should go. Mostly does the job just fine. Just not to sure how many winds it takes.

Went with my daughter Andrea and another VentureRider (Photogrpher) for about 300 km yesterday afternoon, Seen Port Dover, Long Point, Ingersol, Woodstock (in the distance) Drumbo, Paris but I missed Brantford. Awesome weather, ride and companionship. Colors were much better in some places than others. Next weekend should be peek time around here.

You might check for cupping on the front tire. Just run your hand over the outer side of the tread or use a light and you might find that the rubber is wearing more at the lead of the cut tread than it is at the trailing edge.

You not supposed to dig him up first, that way he can move around,,,,,, you need to leave him planted in the garden and pick the flower before you dig 'im up,,, then you'll find him more agreeable.

It's real bummer when you have to work,,,,,,,,,isn't there some way around this dilemma,,I got the same problem,,,got to work when it's a good day to ride,,,,,,you would think the government could plan this out a little better,,,,,,,

No wonder you had a vibration, when bonding the tires they are layered to each other so that they must travel in one direction, going the opposite way will cause the bond to bundle and so give an uneven casing. Should you mount it properly you will still have that unbalanced feel and the tire will not be save to ride on.. Get a new one. Avon will allow 5 years on their tires before sale,,, I don't think any will get that old, but that's what the salesman told me.

Ahh,,,, but can they roll?

Butterfingers!!!!!! Well what did you expect me to say?????? Way to go, he needed a new any ways and Muffinman needed to clear out some stock????? Just teasing, no need to get yourself all in a knot on your birthday, after all you start each year afresh and new, so I thought to help out and set the stage up right.

The adjustment can go out in 2 ways, tight and loose. If it becomes loose you will hear the clatter and being a little loose is not a real big issue, mostly caused by cam wear,(not very likely) it just causes a little more noise and may hamper performance a little, you maybe not even notice. Being tight on the other hand is more common, and is caused by valve seat wear or the valve seating better after being used for some time. If it's too tight, the valve will not seat long enough to cool properly and then you end up with a burnt valve, and maybe a burnt valve seat and that is a problem,,,,, lots more than $400.00,,, and will adversley effect performance, enjoyment, and fuel mileage, and it doesn't get better over time.

You can be a proud pappa. Awesome.

Could have been a lot worse, glad to hear you have only the trailer to fix, them sheeps is large enough of an animal to cause some serious difficulties when they come in contact with a scoot. Sure shows that scanning ahead and looking for problems is and important thing to do, but sometimes even that ain't good enough, and then the angels need to help out.

My 1st 18mm Spark Plug!!!
Marcarl replied to igya's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Or anywhere in Canada, EH? First time I've heard it called a wobble connector, but I suppose that goes hand in hand with the wobbly pop that is also needed to change the plugs properly. -
Hey we did lots of gravel roads there this summer,,,,, even did a loggin' road that almost done the scoot in,,,, but hey it's not a new machine,,, it has seen lots in it's lifetime and was able to handle it very effectively,,,now the younger gens might have had more difficulties. Sometime, if you are ever back that way you might try the Old Hasting Road, runs off of #62 just south of Bancroft back to #62 just north of Bannockburn. Probably about a 3 hour ride,,, slow going,,,,all bush, hills, and twistes, mostly hardpack,,, 15 to 30 kpm, but quite enjoyable indeed.

Glad to hear you made it through all that you two,,, could have been real nasty. This spring I checked out my Avons and they had lots of tread yet, good for at least a third of the season, but then when I looked closer, I noticed the there were cracks at the bottom of the treads where they meet the casing,, so off they came and I put on new ones.

Just for info, the deflectors I have are 5 3\4" X 8". Got these from Serria. 1st Gen fit. Another suggestion would be to include some generic hardware if possible, then those who don't have deflectors and would like them can be helped as well. This maybe a little hard to do though.
