Headlight adjustment off maybe?
Mike G in SC replied to djh3's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The new Michelin Commander II does not come in the stock size (unless they have added it). So riders using that tire are getting it for the SMALLER tire (that many like). So, that should be aiming you more towards the ground. Once you find the headlight knob it's a quick adjustment against a blank wall at night. Mike G in SC -

Hitting the road. The last 3 years, we've taken a bike ride somewhere with some friends. Wednesday, headed to Pensacola to see the Naval Air Museum, and enjoy a tropical view. Mike G in SC

Duhhh, seemed too easy a fix. I looked back,,, no one said that one. So might wait a day or two and go get the MS update manually.

Might try IE Reset: Open IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced then at the bottom is a RESET button. It will probably loose history, maybe cookies and such. But it may shake the gremlins out. Also, if you want to run this RESET (run the IE Tools, Internet Options, delete functions), you can also do it by opening the Start, Control Panel, Internet Options icon instead of actually opening IE. That is probably cleaner if you are having IE problems. I would set a Restore Point before doing anything.

If you get stuck, Extreme Sports Yamaha in Sumter knows their stuff. Good dealer, not a stealer. Others in this area give them a A+. A few weeks ago they set the mix (and I think sync) for under $100 on a friend's Venture. His bike went from rough to smooth. Their primary tech Matt is the best I have seen (don't anyone tell him I said that). Mike G.

David, I live in Lugoff (off I-20 exit 92). I don't have a mechanics tach but I do have a Barons Bullet Tach that I bought used a while back but did not install. This may serve your purpose if you know how to hook it up (I got to find it first). You can borrow it a week or two and bring it back. You can look in my profile for my cell number or send me a PM. I will be home this evening if you mean ASAP. Mike G in SC

I think I found the bike to replace my Venture
Mike G in SC replied to Jactana's topic in Watering Hole
Yamaha is currently working on a new Venture, a V4. But this might be a cool replacement for my RSTD in a few years. More of a solo bike. -
Me Too. Some script error.

We bought one of those stainless 4 door refrigerators. (Side by side ref, over/under freezers) The Samsung and the LG look very similar. But after talking to two different people (an independent appliance repair guy, 30+ years in the business, and the well informed Best Buy delivery guy) they said the Samsungs usually come back, the LG's always work. Happy with the LG. I have a acid test for refrigerators in the store. If the door will not close on it's own, I won't buy it. I also replaced my Sony Blueray with a LG last week. They Sony tends to get lost in the menus (even after updating the software). Had to give up on trying to watch Prometheus on the Sony.

Years back they combined the Plymoth Valiant and the Mercury Comet. The "Vomet" did not sell.

Clearview having BIG sale on Yamaha windshields
Mike G in SC replied to Miles's topic in Watering Hole
I put a Clearview on my RSTD a few years ago. Still good. No complaint. Holds out longer than stock. But I put a F4 Customs on my RSV last year. I REALLY like it. I forget the cost but you can't beat the poly windshield. Looks like glass. Tougher than the Clearview. Check them out too on your RSV. (They don't make F4 for the RSTD) Mike G -
A couple of years ago I put a set of the Sams Goodrich on my son's lighter SUV. They seemed okay, but he traded out too soon to say. So, when my wife's Lincoln Continental needed a set I replaced the top line Michelins with the Sam's Goodrich. A real let down. They poorly handled a stout heavy car. Made it feel like the suspension was weak and it was not. She traded in for a new Accord,,, with stock top rated Michelins. Back to "great". When I had my last Ford Explorer I went from Michelins to Yokahomas. They were okay. But I got a new Santa Fe a year ago, with Brigstones. No Bite. They tend to slip loose on harder acceleration from a stop and especially if it's a wet road. As I only put low miles on it, not sure I want to wait till they wear out. I've never regretted a set of Michelins. If it's your beater car, okay, maybe buy cheap. But if it's your ride, do better.

The post below was on another forum from a rider in NYC. Her office overlooks Ground Zero. An interesting read. We still have no cell phone service, power went last night at 9:21 which was weird because the storm was well over by then. Came back a short while ago. We are calling it "The Zombie Apocalypse". I have never, ever seen devastation like this in my life. Tom's office is on the ocean, but no more. Don't know where they are going to put everyone when they get power back. Driving around was taking your life in your hands as there are no traffic signals. People here can't drive on a day when everything is as should be, so you can just imagine. Cars were tossed like bottles. Up on lawns, inside stores, thru houses. Houses are totally and completely gone. What once were garages, basements and ground floors of multi-million dollar homes have now been reduced to feet deep cesspools. The Belt Parkway was closed as the ocean came up on to it and left, including, get this, a boat, pilings, sand, seaweed and other assorted sea junk on it. 111 houses burned to the ground as the fire department could do nothing but stand back and watch as the streets were so high with water that they could not get to the houses to put the fires out. I can't even imagine how frustrating that was to the FDNY or to those who could do nothing but watch their lives burn to the ground. Wall Street where I work is still without power and can still be that way for another week. The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel that links Brooklyn to Manhattan has a sign that say's 12' feet clearance as you enter the tunnel. The water was up to the sign. Trains if they ever get back to normal, won't be up and running for who knows how long. Don't know if I am every going back to work or working from home until who knows when. This is just a bit of what we are experiencing. I am sure that you are all getting to see some of it on the news where you are. Just keep us in your prayers that we get back to normal soon.

What MC jack for the RSV?
Mike G in SC replied to Mike G in SC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Larry, The yellow or red one? Thanks, Mike G -
Looking to replace my Larin MC jack (MAL-2C). The jack bottle died, second one to do that. (but must admit it does not get used often) Also, the balance with the Venture on it is very poor, actually downright scarry. Seems to be a toss up between the Pit Bull and the J&S. Want something sturdy, good balance with a Venture in the air, and good warranty. I do alerady have Carbon One's adapter. I may see what's at the IMS this weekend in Atlanta. Suggestions? Thanks, Mike G

Four years ago if you told me gas was headed to $3 a gallon I would have been shocked! Cause then it was $1.87 !!!!!!!

New Yamaha On-line Discount Parts Dealer
Mike G in SC replied to Rick Butler's topic in Watering Hole
There are three Yamaha Dealers out there that I use that have similar pricing, Stadium, Yamaha of Cucamonga and Central Yamaha in Plano TX. http://www.centralyamaha.com/ http://www.yocracing.com/ http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/ I think when I was looking for some part, Yamaha list was $215+ and they were $168. BUT: My local dealer, Extreme Sports Yamaha in Sumter SC will normally let me bring in, or call in the OEM accessory price I found at, say Stadium, and he will match. He will match IF it is from a true YAMAHA Dealer site,,, which these are. (He will work with me on non-Yamaha but may not match, IE Tires.) I do have to pay sales tax, but no shipping. And then if I have a problem, I got local support. It may be worth your time to see if your local Yamaha dealer will price match. Win Win. Mike G.- 11 replies

Moving trunk/passenger backrest back
Mike G in SC replied to Mike G in SC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Don, Will look before I leap,,,, to Lowes. Mike G in SC PS: Hour later. Done. Did need to run down to the local hardware store for four 6mm x 1" button bolts (stainless, why not), four nuts, four lock washers and two flat washers. Always more fun to swap jokes at the hardware store then buy stuff you didn't want at Lowes. Yeah, on my 2009, Yamaha did not weld nuts to other holes, but at least they were there. So needed nuts & washers. Only the two front bolts will go back to original holes & welded nuts. Longer part of the job is remembering why you have that much stuff in your trunk and what you want to put back. Yeah, a flattened small roll of toilet paper,,, put back in. And, yeah, pull the passenger seat else the com cable will probably pull loose. That was EASY. Gives wife an extra inch of breathing room and if I add a back rest, not so much in her way. Thanks again, Mike G. -
A couple of my RSV friends have moved their trunk & passenger backrest back 1" by removing the mount bolts and and repositioning the whole assembly back one set of holes. Seen it done with 4 bolts and 6. Seems like a simple idea to give the passenger an extra inch of breathing room. I did not see this in the RSV tech library. Is there already a post on "How to"? I hope to do this today. (hints from my friends: Remove the passenger seat when you do it because when you move the trunk, it will pull on the com cord. The one with 6 bolts got said he picked up 6mm bolts from Lowes.)

Seafoam vs Stabol?
Mike G in SC replied to msshearin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There's two similar threads floating on this, gas additives. As for fighting ethanol, water or winterizing also consider Startron. My savy Yamaha dealer (who also sells watercraft) recommends it above any other additives. From the other thread: Look for STARTRON in stores. In WalMart it is in the marine section next to the boat oil. The bottle is Windex blue. About $8 but goes a long way. It is for both ethanol and water in gas. Good stuff, will make ethanol gas safe (stable) for months. http://content.westmarine.com/images/catalog/large/5617741.jpg -
