  1. You found the right guy. I've talked to Steve and shared a couple of forums. When I saw where you lived, and your questions, I figured you should run in to him.
  2. Greg, I think he has the horn, he doesn't have this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/93/RoundTuit.jpg But, your link looks good. Many Stebel links say the factory is down or item unavailable. So, anyone ordering needs to call to check stock first. I have the Stebel brand, the WOLO is a China copy.
  3. Get Carbon One's bracket,,,, but if you need it "NOW",, go to Lowes and buy the 4 pack of L-brace for a few $$. You just need to enlarge the hole. http://www.lowes.com/pd_315680-1277-DPB115_4294711043__?productId=3168407&Ns=p_product_avg_rating|1 http://images.lowes.com/product/converted/033923/033923838962sm.jpg
  4. I agree with that. Mine are exactly 1 1/2" and I have banged a few times at full load. Probably 1" is better. Or, Barrons does sell front components that would stiffen the front.
  5. You can lower the front up to 1 1/2" into the tripple tree. This will give you more bang for your buck than lowering the rear. It's better for steering. (Yeah, I know, yours is already lowered in the rear.) People do the rear cause there is a kit and it's quicker, fewer things to take apart and put back together correctly. But as Don said, this gives a longer rake to the front and poorer steering. I did not want to do the front cause you need to tear down the fairing,,,,, and put it back together CORRECTLY. I don't have that skill. So, I found someone on this forum to do it. Below is a close up picture of mine, lowered 1 1/2 in the front. "Wild Bill" in the member/vendor classifieds can do this for a very reasonable fee if you want to travel to just above Charlotte, NC. But, anyhow here is the picture Don was talking about. If yours had not been done the tube will be pretty flush with the tripple tree. After Wild Bill lowered my front, I ended up going back to the stock links in the rear. I was scraping pipes at full load. So now I am at about the same angle as the "Leveling Links" put you,,,, just lower. My 29" inseam feet are still good. (So, if the front were done first,,, little need to lower the rear.) Ask more as needed. PS: Yes, the Barons rear kit lowers it 1 1/2" in the rear. If that is more than you want (IE dragging pipes, you can have a fab shop make some links that are half way between the barons and stock length. I did that on my bikes before lowering the front. That dropped it about 3/4". Someone on this forum said for each 1/4" you change those rear links, you raise/lower the rear 1". (But if you bought used from a dealer, not likely they included the stock links.) The Barons kit has two main parts: new pair of links to lower it and a large bracket that allows relocation of the rear brake calliper. You will notice from the right side of your bike, you can see the calliper hanging down "below" the swing arm on a lowered bike, above on a non-lowered. If you do have the stock links want to raise the rear back up you simply need to swap out the links (20 min). The calliper can stay where it is.
  6. Hey, maybe pick up a used scoot before you get to that "have to" point. Tool around on it as your "commute",,,, then when you "got to" you will know if that is what you want. (Then sell both and get a new one as your "prime ride".)
  7. Those would be NICE. The stock passenger foot boards bite me like nastly little dogs when wife is on board and I come to a stop. If someone is selling those,,, I would pay! Mike G in SC
  8. Quote "If the fund remains in the account for more months, the fund will be confiscated and transferred into the treasury of the Government as unclaimed funds." I think he is in Washington DC, sounds like the current administration!
  9. Tires should be replaced.
  10. Wooda couda,,,, on my RSTD but I got the idea of two bikes a few years ago. Right now I got about 91k miles on my RSTD and 43 on my RSV. I'll get there,,,,, just takes longer.
  11. Also, look into STARTRON. More like Stabil but also nails ethanol. http://mystarbrite.com/startron/ Now at most auto parts stores. Look in WalMart in the boat section. My Yamaha dealer sells it, especally for his watercraft.
  12. Try a straight pin.
  13. What's hocky? Ice skating,,,, read about it.
  14. When my son moved to South Carolina to go to college and live with me, he brought a lot of old stuff. When I suggested he toss some, he gave me several large bags of stuff for the dump. I saw his " Cookie Monster" from when he was 2 in one of the bags. I pulled it and Christmas wrapped it and sent it to New Hampshire so when he visited his mom for Christmas,,, he got his Cookie Monster under the tree. You just can't throw Every Thing away. 15. I still got a RSTD,,, rode it today. Let me know if I won. Mike G
  16. http://www.extremesportsyamaha.com/default.asp Exttreme Sports Yamaha-Sumter December sale today & tomorrow I got an email from Extreme Sports Yamaha in Sumter. Their semi-annual sale is today and tomorrow (Nov 30 & Dec 1). They are open till 6 tonight and 9-3 Saturday. Nice time to pick up some bling before Christmas. Oh, and this is a great dealer,,, not a stealer. I try to give them recognition when I can. Mike G.
  17. I'm an Amsoil believer (10w40). 6-7k miles is ok for me, that's my normal change. If you want, change the filter mid way. Amsoil states 25k for cars, 9k for bikes.
  18. Rick, We just did Pensacola for Thanksgiving weekend. My highlight was the Naval Air Museum. At Mexico Beach I highly suggest eating at Toucans Tiki bar. Right on the beach. We had our Thanksgiving buffet there. Great food, service and T-shirts. I'm still snacking on the key-lime candy they sell in the gift shop upstairs. Kinda wish there was a motel right there. Might have parked the bike and had a few. http://www.toucansmexicobeachfl.com/ Enjoy Hwy 98. Mike G.
  19. The old Talmadge Bridge from SC to Savannah, GA, while large enough for many ships, had a metal grate span in the middle (about 100 yards). SO, when you rode over it on a bike, not only did you have to keep it steady on the metal surface,,,, but when you look straight down you were looking at the river below you. At speed, you didn't see the bridge surface. Actually very cool but,,, high pucker factor. They replaced it several years ago for bigger ships. Pretty new bridge but took the excitement out.
  20. Well, SH!T! Okay, try googling for "Ray Bethell". About 4 minutes into the video I realized my jaw was dropped. Worth watching. Mike G. Oh, I see you found a different video. Shows the mechanics. The other one is set to music but similar skills. Mike G.
  21. Rick, The link views fine on my PC. I'll see if I can link it some other way. It's the best kite flying I've seen. Mike G. Try this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E69flRylQRo]Ray Bethell (Multiple Kite Champion) - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Ray Bethell is a professional kite flier who resides in Vancouver, Canada. He holds multiple endurance world records related to simultaneously flying three stunt kites, one from each hand and one from his hips. Using the same technique he can fly multiple stacks of kites (up to 39 kites in total). Bethell has travelled extensively since 1991 displaying his prowess at International Kite Festivals. Amazing kite flying! Ray Bethell, a resident of Vancouver, BC, is one of the most famous kiteflyers in the world. Here he controls three kites in a ballet set to "The Flower Duet." http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=nr9KrqN_lIg If this link does not work, try the one below.....
  23. The 6 chlinder has sufficient power for the vehicle. My other brother had an older V8 and said it was not needed, just more gas. I towed my 5x10 trailer across country several times with my 2002 V6. Drops the gas from 18 to 14mpg. A salesman or lot owner may have taken the other one home for the weekend. Might see it Monday. (I went to a Carmax lot to buy a particular Explorer and got there to see a family drive it off. Oh, Carmax will insult you on your trade,,, just saying. I prefer to haggle and save. Carmax likes sheep, not horse traders.) On towing, towing packages include more than the hitch. I think the package includes better transmission cooling for distance. And I do think that can be added aftermarket too. Check a transmission shop.
  24. On the Barrons lowering kit: If the owner has kept the original links, all you have to do is to swap them with the Barons links. That can be done in less than 1/2 hour (20 min if you have done it before). You can leave the calliper relocation bracket on there. It is not in the way. (Unless you are trying to sell the kit.) Else you can get some stock length made or,,, buy the "leveling links". And maybe someone here has stock length to sell. On the Khromewerks: If the owner has the stock mufflers, may ask for them too. You may or may not like the sound of louder pipes.
  25. I had a 1994 Explorer Sport (2 door manual) and a 2002 Explorer LTX. Both were great SUV's. At 150k miles, the 2002 was holding it's own but starting to need work. (They did have a goof on the 2002 and others that had the same rear window, with the attached body panel. 90% cracked after warranty.) I was going to get a 2011 (new style) but the price got stupid so I got a Hyundai Santa Fe, fully loaded for a lot less (made in GA). It's a great vehicle, but not as stout as the new Explorers. Also inherited my brothers 2000 which I gave to a daughter. Over 270k miles before she took it snorkling.
