Yes, I had to remove my chrome front fender splash guard when installing the Avon on the front. I saw that it was going to rub so I had no choice but to remove it. I even tried the stock black guard but the Avon is a little wider so I am just running without any fender extention on the front. Not a big deal; hardly noticeable.

Collector noise.
MasterGuns replied to loehring's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Loehring, A broken or displaced baffle in your collector will progress from just ian irratation to an embarassment to and down right "gotta get sound suppressing helmet" or really good earplugs. At least that is what mine did. I performed the surgery as described above and was done with it. Quiet, with almost a stock sound. No after issues. It was just a lot of work but glad to quiet the dog gone thing down. -
I've searched but to no avail to find a thread on how to set the cb radio on the first edition. Due to a small mishap ruining mine, I picked up a replacement from Buckeye Performance. I even went out and picked up a SWR meter. But exactly how does not go about matching a new antenna on the first edition, or for that matter any stock m/c cb radio. I am lost. I'm sure there is lots of expertise out there so please help. It won't be long before heading out on about a 1400 miles ride to Big Bend, Texas so I'd really like to be able communicate well. Thanks all.

JB, I have an extra radio and amp that use to work. Haven't been installed in a bike for God knows how long. If you are going to head north this weekend, and I can meet you guys somewhere, I'll bring it along. You are welcome to the pieces at no cost. Call me on my cell if you want to discuss. Herb -
Next time I'm out, I'll slow down so I can answer this thread.

I have a fairly new set of Jardine exhaust for a lst Edition. The pipes are presently installed on my 88 VR. They have been on for approximately three months and personnally, I don't like them because for me, they are too loud. They are in excellent shape maybe a little dusty in places. I am now looking to trade someone these Jardines for a really good set of stock mufflers. Anyone interested? Let's talk.

There is another product called "Blue Away". I used it years ago when I was young and didn't know about jetting when I installed a set of RC Engineering headers on one of my first sleds, a 1975 Kawasaki 900. It removed the blueing but left the chrome really dull. Google it and find out where it may be available. Also, I am really curious as to why your mufflers got so hot. Chrome has got to be really hot to blue and since the mufflers are so far from the exhaust ports, your exhaust was/is really, really above normal temps. What did you do to lean it out so much?

This may not be new news but just heard that somewhere out west the City Council had all the red light cameras disconnected. Too many rear end collisions.

How much is too much?
MasterGuns replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good info Neil86. Had I thought it out for a while longer, I might, repeat, might had figured that out. Now, I wonder just how much juice both front anti-dive units draw. Couldn't be much. Then I also wonder since I have brand new progressive springs in the front, which stiffened her up quite a bit, could the anti-dive units be disconnected. And if disconnected, what negative impact, if any, could occur to something else. Like I said earlier, I most likely will just leave things alone for a bit to see just how she handles the extra teeny bit of juice being drawn by the addition of the LED light bar. It sure looks goods back there, adds some light higher up in the rear during normal running and when activating the brakes, adds a tremendous amount of addition visibility from the rear. If I knew how to add pics to this thread thing, I would because I think this could be something others may consider. Thanks again. -
How much is too much?
MasterGuns replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
By golly, this is good news. Having read your reply, I think I'll just leave well enough alone and see what happens. Do you still have two 1157s burning in the tail? Thanks -
I hope this post isn't being beat to death but here goes anyway. Just installed a 15 inch LED light bar on the rear of my 88 VR and it works and looks great. I am intent on improving rear visibility both during the day and at night short of wearing a yellow reflective vest. I am just curious as to how much amp draw one can expect the taillight circuit to handle without ruining the computer. I was looking for replacements for the two 1157 dual filament bulbs that might draw a little less amp, but have not been able to locate a suitable substitute. I suppose there isn't such a bulb. Each 1157 bulb draws 2.1 amps, I think anyway, and maybe 2.7 amps (don't know for sure) when the brake light is activated. Double that for two bulbs and that is perhaps as much as 5.4 amps. No wonder the voltmeter drops so radically when the brake light is on. Has anyone modified their scoots like I have and would they have any advice on how to reduce the rear brake light circuit draw just a tad? I did purchase two led bulbs and installed them. Even with two led bulbs and the 15 inch led light bar, the computer warning light was on.

Those are my old ones. Ha Ha -
Most of you, and probably all, aren't going to believe this. While parked outside a theater this weekend some jerk left with the seat off my 88 VR. The saddle bag lids were not locked as both are usually empty so removing the lids to access the two bolts holding the seat in place weren't blocked by the lids. Just a long shot but if anyone has an extra black seat, even one in need of repair, I am interested. Name your cost. I have a black seat for an 83 but they aren't the same. Would even be interested in some sort of an exchange plus $$$.

I just read through this entire thread and nobody stated what you have is a "XVZ" not an XEV or whatever.

Led 1157 bulb ?
MasterGuns replied to buddy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I replaced my taillight bulbs with LED 1157s and experienced the same problems; monitor light on and not as much light as claimed. On sunny days, I was not pleased with the illumination of the LED; so bottom-line is I took the things out and went back with the regular bulbs. So, not I am adding a 15 inch dual intensity LED strip light just under the travel trunk to add more light especially brake lights. In my opinion, that is when you really want to be seen by the fools behind you in their Escalades talking on their cell phone and playing with their laptops. I was going to go with the 1.85 LEDs but what would had been the purpose; same amount of light with the standard 1157s. -
I am so glad I came accross and read this thread. I just received confirmation of my order. Who cares about cost for such an enhancement. Thanks all.

tire removal question
MasterGuns replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Absolutely. No so difficult at all. I had never done it myself until earlier this year. Save bundles and learned a lot. The most difficult part was inserting the axle while trying to keep all the pieces together. If you have the Owners Manual, just follow the directions. You may impress yourself with new found talents.- 14 replies

Why would anyone want to paint their garage floor in the first place? Don't you realize that no matter how top quality the paint is, you will be forever repainting it. Kinda like being in the Navy. I like mine just plain ole concrete.

I think mine is obvious. I served over thirty years in the U.S. Marine Corps and had to retire since all Uncle Sam will let you do is thirty even though I went slightly over. I retired a Master Gunnery Sergeant hence "MasterGuns" is my ID. My signature is "Semper Fi" and all you former Jarheads know the history behind that latin phrase. I have been retired since 1996 and miss the Corps every minute of everyday. I would head to Iraq in a heartbeat if they'd take me back. Once a Marine, always a Marine. If anyone could be a Marine, there wouldn't Marines! Semper Fi
