Dash indicators and lamps.

I think you will need five or six 3.4 watt X 12v and three or four 3 watt X 12v bulbs to replace them all. -
Tires....again
MasterGuns replied to pilothawk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Now that we are all discussing tires for the lst edition, does anyone know who makes a raised white letter matching set? And from where they may be obtained. -
Outstanding there Jarhead. There seems to be quite a few former Jarheads on this site. Semper Fi PICK 0311 1966 - 1972 (two PHs so did a lateral move) 1371 1972 - 1976 3531 1976 - 1978 8411 1978 - 1980 0431 1980 - 1982 and lastly 0491 1982 - 1996

Man PIck, can't help ya there. I ride a 1st gen 88 so all I carry are cloths, drinks, audio stuff, water, food, and the manufacturers basic took kit. No need for spare parts, oil and items like that.

PICK, Saddlebag/Trunk liners are fabric liners that are custom fitted to the interior dimentions of your bags and trunk. They are most likely affixed with a zipper type closure mechanism. This way, you pack all your junk into the bag and when arriving at your destination, you open your bag or trunk and remove all you stuff that is packed into the bag and/or trunk liner. Are you kiddin that you don't know what this things are?

A M&E in Sangor would be outstanding. I'll be watching and head on up if it goes down.

Are there any North Texas rides being organized over the Labor Day weekend? Any info regarding this subject would be highly appreciated. I for one would just love to join if the starting point is anywhere near Dallas/Fort Worth. Or is anyone interested in quickly organizing something?

Tach Question
MasterGuns replied to scott_sinky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Scott, You never did say why you replaced the TCI in the first place. And was the replacement unit new or used? Common sense, at least to me anyway, dictates that you may still have a faulty TCI especially if you picked one off Ebay or from a parts bike. If it were me, I'd be seriously considering replacing the TCI again with another unit. -
Clutch noise in neutral
MasterGuns replied to CptKirk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I also have an 88 that makes the same low rumble from the clutch only while in neutral and the clutch is not engaged. Has been making this noise, which incidently isn't bothersome in anyway, for quite a long time, perhaps years. Personnally, I wouldn't worry about it at all. And I don't think it is a bearing noise anyway. I'm so worried about it, that I am taking off this weekend on a 500 plus ride on a 2d edition hunt. Just love leaving them in my dust. Oh sorry there KBAY, also just trying to stir the pot. -
Thats right...warming a cold garage. Ha Ha
-
I vent the exhaust from my Harley out a small window and let it idle for about 15 minutes. Garage is fairly comfy for a while. On really cold nights, I have had thoughts of picking up a second HD for adding BTUs but those thoughts quickly vanish.
-
Really doesn't matter what exhaust you eventually put on. If you don't fix or replace the collector, it will begin to make so much noise that it will be heard over any exhaust. A friend wanted we to help with is rattling collector and I thought I couldn't do the surgery myself, but we removed the collector, and we both took a deep breath and cut it open. Was quite simple. The hardest part was finding someone to weld the thing back up. An easy fix.

Can someone please explain the differences?
MasterGuns replied to pilothawk's topic in General Tech Talk
I would think that 190 for a set of Michellins is a good price. Michellin also makes a good tire and I personnally wouldn't have a problem with them. I am sure that you will eventually have numerous opinions from other on this site. Tires are mainly a matter of personnal preference for many, while others may state it is a matter of known history associated with any specific tire manufacturer. I think that most tires these days are acceptable if maintained exactly recommended by the manufacturer. In my opinion tires are the main safety item on your bike, brakes being next. Having said that, to me anyway, price shouldn't be factor between the asphalt and my skin. -
1st Gen Carb Diaphrams
MasterGuns posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is a lot of posts concerning 1st Gen carb diaphrams being bad, how to repair them, how to replace them, places they may be obtained at varying costs, etc, etc. What I would like ask those that have much more experience than I concerning diaphrams on the lst Gen, is how does one know when one or more need replacing in the first place? What are the symptoms of a bad diaphram and should the diaphrams be regularily checked for issues? Also, if I were to find one bad can one be exchanged from a another set of carbs? Can only the diaphram be reutilized from another carb or would it be wise to exchange the entire assembly diaphram and slide together? Just curious. I don't have any carb issues at the present time but one never knows what the future may hold with a 20 year old bike. -
The Carbtune is by far the best sychronization tool this dude has every had. When not in use, keep it in a plastic bag or some other device for keeping it clean and you'll never have the sticking issue. I've had mine now for several years, use it regularily on my bikes and others, and works excellently every time.

You have purchased a 1st Generation Venture, 2d generation wasn't manufactured until 99. I also don't know what the 3d generation would be. Heck, I don't even know what the MK I and MK II stuff is either and I've been on VRs since 86. As far as tires go, seems the greater majority of VR riders prefer Avon. That's the brand I put on about 5 months back and they are perhaps the best riding and seem to be the brand with the least derogatory issues. Great tires. I just wish Avon made them with RWLs. -
I just purchased two key blanks for my 88 VR from the Yamaha dealer in Weatherford, Texas. So, this means blanks must be still available.

1st Edition Antennas again
MasterGuns replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know they fold down; just to much in a hurry all the time and besides I'd rather take out a couple bulbs pullng in the garage. I would just prefer 3'er or shorter even if I had to remove them whenever covering the bike. Weather permitting tomorrow, I'm headin for the local CB shop to see what they might have in stock that will just screw on to the existing stock mounts, fold down or not.- 10 replies

1st Edition Antennas again
MasterGuns replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bought the 3 footer what? What brand/manufacturer? Are they the Firestiks and did they just screw right on or did you have to change anything like the mounting hardware or coaxial? I sure do appreciate your help. Thanks- 10 replies

I hope I am inserting my question in the right location and will have someone reply with an answer. Who manufactures aftermarket antennas (one for the cb and the other for am/fm reception) that will just replace the two overly long stock antennas on my 88VR? I, too, have a severe problem rolling in or out of my garage because the antennas are way to high. Heck, I have even broke a couple flourescent bulbs in my overhead lighting. I could care less if they both must be completely removed or if they don't fold down like the stockers. If some knows what I can replace them both with that are much shorter, please advise model number and where I can order them. masterguns

I, too, have been on the lookout for the fairing edge protection pieces you are referrng to. The last set I saw was on Ebay about a year ago and the winning bidder won them for well over a 100.00. It wasn't me. I bought a set back in 89 or 90 for 8.95. Good luck.

I really love the city I live in because there isn't one. Just lots of wide open nothinness. Good shooting country and no city halls. And lots of weeds, too.
