A few years back while on a Ride-in with the other club I was approched by a guy riding a RSV, he said that he had been riding behind me most of the day and couldn't stay up with me. I said there's only one way to find out which one was faster..... we lined up and took off with a rolling start, I red lined it in both first and second (first time I ever had the front wheel off the ground when I shifted to second); I had him all the way. Also the 1988 Salt Lake Silver/Anthony Gray first gens are faster than the 1990 Blue; took one of them too.... no contest! Also a buddy of mine has a Black VTX 1800, I can beat him too. About 6 years ago he and I went down to Florida to paint his condo, it's in a 55 and older place with No motorcycles allowed. What could we do? We were all ready there..... anyway two little ladies walked by and asked if one of them motorcycles were mine, I said sure the Pretty One..... one of them said the Silver? His was Brand New at the time

Just a thought..... maybe the Transmission Drain Plug gasket is leaking. -
I bought my 88 VR with 48,500 miles on it and it had two previous owners; I've put another 78,200 in the last eight years... Total Miles 126,700:dancefool:

The reason I went back home Saturday afternoon was to get more syrup, gave it to the gals to pass around. Well anyway if you want some I'll put your name on a bottle and when you are down this way just stop in and get it.

Well I don't know very much so I can't tell much. Did you get any of my Maple Syrup at the Davis Rally?

I'm SHORTY on both of them now.

Hey everyone that attended the Pork in the Pines I'm changing my handle from Tall Tom to Shorty. I have many friends in both the Venture Riders and Venturers motorcycle clubs and it will be alot less confusing with one handle. Anyone that has met me will understand that Shorty fits me better anyway.

loud clunk when starting...

My 88 makes that same sound when the battery needs charging or sometimes on a hot day. Yooper nagged and nagged on me to replace the Starter Clutch. So we pulled it out and it was in perfect condition and put it back in. I had gone through all the easy stuff like putting in heavier cables, replaced the Solinoid, pulled the Starter (also in perfect condition), etc. When I replaced the battery it solved the problem. -
I've got an 88 Standard with 122,100 miles on it (I put 73,600 miles on it), oh ya it's my second 88 Standard (I put 33,000 on the first one), both the same color Salt Lake Silver/Gray, but 8 years apart. There's two 83s in town so add these three to the total.

Here's a picture of what my 1946 Cushman sorta looked like minus the sidecar. With all that room under the skirting I wonder if it would be possible to put in a Venture motor?????

Trip planning - Madison, WI to South Dakota - What to see?
Shorty replied to petekadish's topic in Watering Hole
I agree I-90 is a long boring stretch of road BUT there is an Oais... SPAM Town USA, Austin MN. It's a MUST to go through the SPAM museum.... and it's FREE -
Ya I put $113.00 into the tank of my F150 last week. I usually put on 10 to 12 thousand miles a year on the bike and also on the truck; the bike gets around 38 mpg and the truck less than half that. Shucks I might have to put even MORE miles on the bike this year.

I have the same problem. I had my dealer fix it when I first got the bike 8 years ago, didn't help. Now I just add antifreeze when I get it out in the Spring. Only loose it in the Winter in the unheated garage.

Lake Superior Circle Tour (counter-clockwise)
Shorty replied to Prairiehammer's topic in Watering Hole
I've done that trip the last two years. Rode with Yooper and a couple of his Harley buddies. They don't stop for anything but gas, food and lodging. They even bring their own food. We do the whole circle in two days. Never even stopped for taking pictures so the attached pictures are from me holding my camera and snapping pictures while driving. The one of me shows the shadow of my hand holding the camera. The one of the instrument panel shows our cruising speed and a nice scene in the rear view mirror. Next year we are going to slow down and take it in three days. -
I agree with you. I thought our 1st gennies would turn in the high 12s at around 102 mph. The fastest speed for that Wing was only 97 mph. Only thing is, they were all sleeping at the Line, none of them were coming out of the hole smoking their rear tire.

My 94 Ford six overheated so I replaced the Water Pump (one of them Blanky Blank China built junk), fixed it for a short time. While I was in Orlando for the winter my son called me and said it was over-heating again... he said you did replace the water-pump didn't you? He went thru everything including taking the head off and it still over-heated. Sooooooooooooo he pulled that Blanky Blank China built junk of a water-pump and found that all the Fins were on one side. When I got home I took it back to Advance Auto and got my money back. It ended up costing over $450 just to find out about that China crap. Might be worth it to check out your new water-pump.

Here's me a year ago and the replacement (26 T coupe) for my 88 VR, planning on switching in 3 1/2 years. Hope it's done by then.

Here's what I used for my trunk repairs and building studs for the covers. I get it at Auto Zone for less than $5.00, I use it with fiberglass cloth.
