I get around 24,000 miles on my rear tire Dunlop 491 Elete II, but I don't pull a trailer. Keep the air pressure at 48 psi.

Starter Clutch Removal
Shorty replied to kevin5549's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That video DOES make it look easy, However when you're tightening the puller bolt, ya think it can't be on that tight, but it is. Notice my photo with the blanket on the floor... make it a long, thick blanket. It's me holding the real Cresent wrench, that's how we kept the engine from turning over. Oh ya my Starter Clutch was in perfect condition, didn't need replacing, and it had on over a 100,000 miles on it when we checked it. -
Looking for a Good Starting Point

Aside from all the above excellant advise, you stated that you needed to fix up the Fairing..... so my advise is this; go to your nearest Auto Zone and purchase several tubes of Plastic Welder. It's quite cheap but really works good. My whole bike is held together with it. I use fiberglass fabric with it. -
Just Wondering?

Install the Needle Shim Mod and your milage will increase by 5 mpg... see Yooper's posting. -
I put the shims in mine, milage went up 5 mpg but PEP went down. I suppose I'll have to race Fred again on his new machine to see which ones the fastest. I got um on the old one but not by much as Fred states.

Lost my Son
Shorty replied to naturbar's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I am so sorry for your loss. Setting here reading your posting has brought on many sobering thoughts. My oldest son just turned 41 and loves his 1966 & 2006 Mustang. He had a motorcycle accident when he was 16 and came out of it just fine, but I had a ruff time driving to the scene seeing all those flashing red lights. I can't imagine what you are going through. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Tom- 112 replies

Is there a safe way to get through Chicago on a bike?
Shorty replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
I take the Ferry, here's a couple of pictures going from East to West, the guy in the picture is our own Yooper (Fred). If you decide to take the Ferrry make sure you take a couple of straps to latch your bike down. I've done this "Chicken" way twice now once with my truck/camper and once on the VR. Also DO NOT read the book about Great Lake boat sinkings or you may decide not to do it. -

If ya want to "blacken" it out take a look at this first generation VR. Contact "eagleeye" he knows guy that built it, it's REALLY COOL and yes it's got the V-Boost. -

Here's what my 1988 1300 VR looks like, hope it helps. Tom -
I know of a guy that built an airplane in his basement, only problem he had with it was that he had to tare off the side of his house to get it out..... Oh ya he was an engineer.

No I'm not bringing along. I brought my bike down there the first year wintering there and I was scared to death to ride it much. That winter "they" killed off a biker every week in Orlando alone. Way too much traffic for me. I did enjoy going over to Daytona for Bike Week though.
-
We did that two years ago, hope ya don't get toooooooo close to any rocks.

It got down to -9 F the other morning and today it snowed..... so off to Florida we go. We'll be leaving monday morning for 6 weeks in Orlando. Got a house sitter all lined up, tools loaded ( we do volunteer maintance work at YWAM.... Youth With A Mission). Stay warm everyone who live up here in this frozen tundra. I'll be thinking about you when I'm at the snow white beach in Sarasota one week from today. Also planning to go to the Daytona 500 and a Zillion Flea Markets.

I'd sell my beautiful 88 Standard Venture for $2500.00, it's got all kinds of up-dates and is in tip-top shape. It has real low milage for a 24 year old motorcycle... 130,000 miles. Doesn't use any oil and get 42 mph riding two up at 65 mph. Lots of guys on this site know how nice my bike is. Tom

Mine IS a Vent Pipe and the inspector made me replace it anyway. Here's a picture of it.
-
Just a heads-up if you use the fernco coupling..... the Building Inspector made me take off the all rubber one and replace it with the one with the stainless band around it.
-
Well if you're looking for a nice old Motorcycle do I have a deal for you...... my beautiful 1988 Standard Venture for ONLY $2500.00 and much, much, much less than any of them pictured bikes and prettier too.
-
Mine had rust spots on it so I first sanded it down with 600 wet or dry, cleaned it up with paint thinner, let it dry and then put the paste wax on.

Does it come with the girl?
