  1. Sitting here at 'puter......and watching Quickstep ride out on my Quike He has headed out with a friend of ours for a ride down south. Me, it should be me!!:bawling:Dang the leg :bang head: Weather is starting to cool off, so by the time I can ride again I'll probably be dodging the rain.
  2. Went to pick up my repaired laptop , going down a two lane (country road), the red Expedition in front of me was making a right turn on what I assumed was a gravel drive. Hard to tell from my position and the lay of the land. The right shoulder went straight down 10-15 feet. I'm almost at a stop and looking in my mirror I see a car hauling ass coming up on me. Can't go right, it's a hole and that would hurt; can't go left, oncoming car, that would hurt even more. The Expedition is starting to turn but not nearly fast enough, By then I hear the wheels on the car lock up, a quick look in the mirror shows the car starting to slide, I decided to just look ahead. didn't want to see him hit me:confused24: Which didn't happen, thank goodness. got to practice my french though. Probably some redneck prikweed talking on the cellphone.......
  3. We ride 2 Up almost exclusively. With a combined weight of about350 lbs with gear, whats a good starting point for that rear shock? Do anyone recommend adding air to the fronts?
  4. I promise this will be the last question or two about the rear shock (from me anyway). I have a '99 RSV that I am putting a new rear shock on. I have been assured that the newer shock, that was changed starting with '05, will fit. The newer shock has, I'm assuming, a vent hose. What do I do with it? Is there a certain place it has to be routed to?
  5. Greetings, I am starting a rebuild on my 83 1st Gen, I've reviewed the exhaust threads on the website, Does anyone have model or part numbers for replacement exhaust's. MY original exhaust pipes are starting to rust out on the bottom. I'm not looking to sound like a Harley, but a little rumble would be nice. Here in MN, Metric guys are left in the dark since HD's are huge here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Hi Guys it seems like everytime i get on here i have nothing but bad news well this isnt real bad but bad enough. on sat night the love of my life Kelli slipped on the only piece of ice left in ohio i think fell and broke her right ankle Ouch!! right well not till we went to the emergency room and we were getting her admitted to get her fixed up and she informs me she has no insureance i felt helpless i dont have the money to pay a doctor bill like that and on tues she has to go see and Ortho-surgen that part is not going to be bad we are going to the clinic for that part of it. im not even sure what im looking to gain from telling of this incedent except maybe a internet hug from my exstended family. thanks again for listening 2010 is not starting the way i wanted it to. Ron
  7. I am starting my projects today....lowering the rear, lowering the front, installing a HID Exnon headlight, removing the tape player for a storage box ( maybe the gauge set). raising the handlebars, having the seat reworked by Rick Bulter, installing a fake blinking alarm light when the bike is turned off, installing the front air shock 2 to 1 air value, filling tires with Ride-On......... Oil and tires are good.... is there something else I should do while on jacks. 2005, 8000miles . Already has passing light, XM radio, extra brake light, larger horns. Cb
  8. Attached are redrawn schematics of the starting circuits for the 1st Gen's. I thought these might help people that have cranking & starting issues. There is a narrative above each circuit detailing operation. This text assumes a charged battery and intact fuses. There are three views of each circuit. Left side shows circuit in normal condition, key off, side stand down, transmission in neutral. Center view shows circuit with key on, transmission in neutral. clutch and side stand switches not shown as they are irrelevant in this configuration. All switches and relays shown in position to energize starting motor. RIght view shows key on, transmission in gear, side stand up and cluth pulled in. Neutral switch not shown as it is irrelevant in this configuration. All switches and relays shown in position to energize starting motor. Also, the side stand relay and Emergency stop sensor are shown. Neither of these affect the cranking circuit but will shut down the Ignitor unit. Actually, the bike will start and run with either of these pulled out. 84-85 one is almost identical to 86-93 version. Only difference is positive wire at starting solenoid coil. Gary

  10. I mostly start engine in neutral but when I start it in first gear with clutch in the bike will creep forward while starter is engaged and stop when it starts.Do I need to fix something or just make sure all starting is done in neutral. thanks Curtis
  11. Ok, I'm very busy today with questions. LOL. I'm thinking about giving my old girl a new paint job. She is warn and wheatherd. I don't have the money to pay someone to do it, so I think I'll try my hand. I'd like to get some opinions and advice as I move forward. Any good sites that would be helpful? What's the best paint to use? Can I get a "nice" finish with a rattle can? Just starting in the planning stages, but I love a new project. Thanks, to MarCarl my scoot is running GREAT! Attending MD was the best thing I could have done! But now I'd like her to "look" good too! Thanks~
  12. Any down side to starting up in first gear assuming you have the clutch in. Thanks From Mexico Nevada Max
  13. Hi, I have a 1996 Royal Star standard. It has about 20k on it. It has always started and run just fine....however, in the last couple of days it has behaved strangely. It seems to happen after I go for a ride and let the bike sit for bit (say an hour or two), then when I go to start it it just turns over but won't fire. If I wait a couple of minutes and try again it works! It's fire up almost instantly, as usual. It does not die once running or driving. And if I shut the bike down immediately, it restarts just fine. Would the fuel pump going out behave this way? I personally think it's likely to be electronic since it does not even come close to starting when it's cranking over. Any likely culprits? Thanks!!! Jeff:nanner:
  14. 50,000 miles Royale Purple/Red left fairing is busted up Seems like a fair starting price to me. http://www.usedmotorbikeshop.com/webtemplate.aspx?iid=673705
  15. Well a few of you know I decided to upgrade my bike rather than get a new one. Just decided I didnt want the Harley so my Venture was gonna get paint and some upgrades for much less money. Just yesterday I got the first bunch of painted stuff back and I will tell you that boy did I make the right move!!! The stuff looks great. I wont tell you the color but its HOT!!! I also ordered my upgrade stator and got the jets I need to retune the carbs on the way also. Anyway Im starting to get excited for the season. I dont plan on uncovering the boat this year so I got more riding time!!! BTW there wont be any pics until its done!!! LOL
  16. Hey all, Had a few minutes so I thought I'd check in. The new house is shaping up nicely. Painting is almost done, carpets have been shampooed and we are starting to move stuff in a bit at a time. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The one down side is that the garage has been converted in to more house so I have no place to store/work on my bike. I'll come up with something though. The weather is starting to warm up here, and soon it will be time to devote myself more fully to my scoot and getting her ready for the summer. PAIN
  17. The Boss approved my vacation request for 2009 today. Looks like it is a go for Maintenance Day,Skid Inn,Vogel, Asheville, plus a few personal days in Pigeon Forge. 2009 is starting to look good. How many more days till spring?I even got a week approved for Spring break at the camp.
  18. Good morning everyone. I am starting a new thread because I have seen several questions on small jumper cables. I purchased a set during a motorcycle show one year. They are about 10ft. long and have nice clamps and a carrying case. On a 1st Gen. the case fits flat in the bottom of the side bags. I have even loaned them here at work to jump a 4cyl. or small 6cyl. car! Here is the link from Cyclegagets: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=BBOOST This is the same thing I have. I don't think you can build a set and get a storage bag on your own for this price. At least not unless you have things laying around. I like having them. Last time, I hooked them to a truck battery and just let it sit for about a half hour before starting. The donor vehicle wasn't even running. We then started the truck and then the bike. Hope this helps. JB
  19. This is way too soon, but it looks like winter weather is headed in to stay tomorrow with daytime highs in negative digits. yuk!! Snow is expected tomorrow and the high for tomorrw and for the next several days is supposed to be between -2 to -8 C (30 - 18F) . Overnight lows are supposed to be getting down to -20c (-4F) starting Thurs nite. It looks like everyones bike rides around here are done for quite a while now. Keep warm! Brian:snow::snow::snow:
  20. Are there any North Texas rides being organized over the Labor Day weekend? Any info regarding this subject would be highly appreciated. I for one would just love to join if the starting point is anywhere near Dallas/Fort Worth. Or is anyone interested in quickly organizing something?
