  1. The last numbers of the VIN is the production number of the bike right?
  2. Ok, Got the bike up and got the pumpkin off. Splines to the u-joint aren't completely dry, but, not much grease on them. Next question is how much pressure should it take to pull the drive shaft out of the pinion?
  3. I'm wondering what make/model digital tachometer is being used out there for diagnostics. I have an 84 VR MK1 and need to make some adjustments that require a digital tach. Before I make a purchase I would like to see what you guys are using and whether you like it or not. So; whatcha using?
  4. Am going to put a set of RK mufflers on my 06 RSTD. I realize it would definitely, probably, maybe, be easier to pull the bags off to replace them. Question is, , ,it is that much easier, , , , , , worth all the trouble pulling and replacing the bags. . . . . ..
  5. I put the rear running lights on the + acc. terminal of my skydoc fuse upgrade. Then from the Acc. terminal to the switch, then to the rear lights. There is no relay in the circuit. It looks like the battery resistor mod is also on the same terminal. Question #1-Is it possible that when I turned on the lights that I could have blown the resisitor? It was fine during testing etc...but yesterday evening I decided to hit the switch to turn on the running lights and immediately my battery warning light started flashing and now it always on (with key on) Question #2 If I need to install a relay in the running light circuit, what do I ask for? Question #3 Does the battery resistor mod need it's own terminal?
  6. If I purchased a J&M JMCB 2003 unit can I use my sirius satalite radio with it? I see a hook up up for a mp3 player and other stuff is this also where I would plug it in? Does anyone know about this system? Joe
  7. Yesterday I got ambitous after I got home from work, and went to working on the Venture out in the shop. I have ow got all the engine covers in place, shift linkage installed, carbs mounted and hooked up to the cables. One question, I am getting rid of the Yics chamber. I didnt have any vacum caps to put on the tubes coming out of the engine. I just the rubber hoses down and used them to cap of the tubes by connecting them to the one next to it. I read a post here somewhere where someone else did the same thing, my question is should the be connected to the cyl beside it or the opposing cyl. or does it really matter. Also I cant find the wire leads where the neutral swithch and the oil pressure/level wire plugs in to the system, where can I find the leads that they plug into..................I have looked and looked but cant find them and dont remember where they should be.:confused24:
  8. I really like riding my 84 basket case I assembled this spring, but am thinking of doing the fjr rear swap for the low end torque and i'm thinking it will help when skipping second gear. My question is what years from an fjr1300 will fit? I know someone on here sells the shim(skydoc I believe) what else is necessary besides elbow grease? Thanks, Ray.
  9. Is there a trick to pulling the wires from the spark plugs?? Do the just pull off or are they screwed in somehow?
  10. Do the 1983 tires take tubes? In other words do I need to order tubes along with my new tires? Thanks

  12. I hope im in the right spot. Hi all,I have been reading over the forum but couldnt find an answer so here goes. I have a 98 royalstar xvz 1300 and have had the carbs rebuilt or overhauled keep in mind I pulled the carbs off the bike and took them to my local yamaha dealer after installing them the bike runs great with 1 problem the overdrive light blinks 3 times when the key is turned on and when you start it the light stays on. I cant find anything in my clymers manual or the internet so any help would be most appreciated thanks Russ
  13. Hello all, I have a quick question on my front brakes. I am new to my 2007 Midnight Venture, I have owned it for a few months or so. I upgraded from an 1100 Silverado. I am a Dodge Technician so I do have a mechanical background. I have noticed, 3 or 4 times, when coming to a stop with the front brakes applied, just before it comes to a complete stop it will pull slightly, has happened to the right and to the left, it is not always to the same side. My first thought is it is like only one caliper was grabbing. BUT.. plenty of bikes out there only have one caliper so that really doesn't make sense.... Both front calipers are free and grab the rotor when the lever is pulled. Pads are good. Fluid level is correct and clear in color. Steering head was properly tightened when I purchased the bike when I did the 1" lowereing of the front in the triple tree, and yes everything in the triple tree is tight and measurements are still the same. Nothing has moved. I do not have the required pump to adjust the front shock pressure and have never adjusted it, but I have put 3000-4000 miles on the bike since I bought it and I have only just noticed this so I can't see that being the issue... I have experimented with it a little and at speed it does not show any signs of strange or odd braking. This forum and its members comprise a GREAT wealth of knowledge so I figured I would see if anyone has any other idea. And yup, it's my first post.
  14. I know...I know another RK Muffler question. I just wanted to check on something. I just got a very nice set of slash-cut Road King mufflers. They are off a 1998 model. Serial Numbers are: 65546-98 and 65547-98. From my reading here and other forums I understand that these will not contain the catalytic converter. However, when peering though the mufflers I noticed that I can see through the 65547-98 through a small center hole down in the muffler. I cannot see through the 65546-98. Is this normal or is there a problem with the one I can't see through?
  15. Hi All, I know the R1/R6 monoblock calipers will bolt on to our Royals front forks.. My question is if the same monoblock will bolt onto the rear? The caliper looks identical to me. Any ideas?
  16. I am having the tires replaced on my 1987 Yamaha Venture Royale. It there any maintance I should have done while the wheels are off?
  17. I have to make decision on building TODAY!! Finally gets here and rushing me but I want to get it DONE!! Question is; Metal or block building??? He claims he can bring block in for close to price of metal. I'm thinking block has a lot of advantages but hard to finish inside once up? Any thoughts quickly?? I have to let him know this evening!!!!
  18. Eventually plan on buying block off plates for anti-dive. My question is this: Does just unplugging the anti-dive have the same effect or is there a side effect to doing this? Thanks Edit: Already have Progressives up front.
  19. Have a 2011 Yamaha Stryker - Am looking to move up to a 2012 Venture. Question: If I purchase a helmet with built in speakers and connector - can I connect to the factory radio and listen to the radio through the helmet speakers? tia..
  20. My mustang got in a little wreck and I found a 92 trans am for 340 bucks. I bought it before even looking at the odomoter. I got going down the road and i looked down and saw it only had 113xxx miles on it. But anyways back to my question, I want to put a 350 LT1 fuel injected motor into it, can i still run the tranny that's in it now?
  21. Found this sample Citizenship Test today. Mighty interesting and not as easy as you might think. The 96 question multiple choice takes a few minutes. The correct answer to each is displayed immediately. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0104/Could-you-pass-a-US-citizenship-test/Who-signs-bills
  22. i did a search and guess i'm more challanged than i thought. the search thing dosen't like me or something cause i don't get good results, and yes i tried modifieing my search.done some research lately and found that i need two if not three different air gauges.i based that on the theroy of getting a gauge that is in half of the zone. Ie the forks max p.s.i. is 7lbs so 0-15 would be correct, tires avon rear max 50 p.s.i so 0-100 would be correct.i guess the rear shock would be the same as the rear tire,my question is why would i need two different progressive air pumps(0-15& 0-60) when the 0-60 would work on both ? since i'll be useing two separate gauges.the pumps coast around 42-47 dollars and the gauges coast 14-21 dollars.my finial and guess real question is,could i not use a bicycle pump(small tube style that goes on frame)to work on the forks and shock? sorry for the drawn out gibbresh.
  23. Does anyone own one with a cb? Do the original CBS allow you to talk, or only listen? I'm thinking about swapping the one from my old bike to my new bike. To do this I'll have to swap wiring harnesses too. So I guess another question of mine is, is it worth it???
  24. I see that some members are adding as per instructions from the mg. of seafoam 1&1/2 oz. per qt. in with the oil to clean up the sludge in the engine. My question is do you leave the seafoam in for 5000 miles or until the oil is dirty or do you run the engine a short time and immediately remove the seafoam and oil replacing same.?? DanC
  25. Just put my 2005 RSTD in the shop for major maintenance (valve adjustment, plugs, etc, etc). I have a question: the maintenance schedule says to replace brake lines every two years. WHY??? I have had bikes most of my life, and I do not recall ever seeing anything in routine maintenance about replacing brake lines/hoses. As always, any help is appreciated.
