My bike fires up every time (rarely any clutch) and idles right away at 1,000 RPM, when cold. As it warms up the idle will slowly go up to 1,500 where it will then idle there. It is obviously too fast and downshifting doesn't seem to slow the bike down enough. My question is will a carb tune clear this issue up or am I looking at a bigger problem? If I recall I set the idle before doing the tune, so should I set it when the bike is fully warmed up, then do the tune and then set the idle again? Thanks for any input. -
Hey all, I am thinking about trying the Kenda Kruz tires on my 03. I used them on a 04 Suzuki I had and the were great. I know they have had mixed results on the 1st Gen bikes. My question for you all is has anyone used them on a 2nd Gen? Thanks all for your vast store of knowledge.

I have a question on the Fork Seal replacement instructions posted by Freebird if any of you have done it this way HERE In the part below where you remove the 8 or 10mm Allen Socket on the bottom of the fork, mine just keeps spinning around and around.. I didn't see in the instruction where I was supposed to do anything to stop it on the other side, but I am turning it counter-clockwise and it does not come loose, it feels like it is spinning a nut on the other end of it... Not sure how to proceed now my seals are leaking like crazy and bike front end is apart for this step. Any ideas would be appreciate... After owning my 83 VR for year I'm finally getting round to fixing a few of the niggles including the second gear (currently in the process of removing the engine - gratefully assisted by all the articles on this site.) I have question on the Second Gear kit for those that have used it before I order it - Does it contain anything more than the four parts listed? I ask as the cost of the four individual parts appears to be less (a lot less in some places) than the kit, so is there something extra? As an aside I tried the Battery Sensor fix and couldn't get it to work with the 1K, 2.2K or variable resistors, so I disabled it directly on the CMS circuit board by breaking the relevant circuit and using a pull down resistor. I can take pictures if anyone is interested. Also I had a fun issue with the flashers (or indicators for any of us Brits) - they only worked when turned to the left. Turned out the Hazard Switch had some loose contacts than only made contact depending on gravity. Great site BTW with lots of useful information. -

Hello. I am new to this forum and if this is in the wrong place I apologize in advance. I am looking at picking up a venture and from my research it is a Mk I as it has the 1200 cc engine and detachable luggage. Right now it is not mobile and has not run in a year or so. I am an experienced mech so getting it running should not present too much of a problem. My question is is $250.00 cdn a good deal for this bike even if it is going to take a bit of work and money to fix up? I am new to ventures so not sure of value of these bikes. Thanks in advance. Question for all you over the hill riders and campers. This question is for men and women. As you all know, as we get older,sometimes we have to get up in the night to visit the privy. Where do you go at in the middle of the night? Do you walk to the outhouse or carry a port-a- john or what? Boy--can't wait to hear the comments on this one. I'm asking for it I know so have fun,but would like some answere's also. Trying to talk the wife into camping again on the bike.

I installed a set of E3's on the '89 I have here and have a question for the 1st genners. I find that the handling actually went down, I'm thinking because of the profile on the tire and it being more rounded up into the casing. It actually feels to me, at slow speeds to plow more, kinda like a stock 2nd gen. I'm not too crazy about this, but I know that I will get used to how it reacts. My question is, do any of you other 1st genners feel the same as I do ?

I have a 83 Venture. I like it fine, but there is a question whether I am throwing good money after bad sometimes. I like to put 500 or 1000 miles on in a couple days and there is a question whether I am going to get back home. I have always bought used cars for value. Tend to try to buy good cars that don't hold their value well (Town Car for instance). I love touring a lot of miles. In your opinion what is the best value for a touring bike? I would consider reliability, maintainance, looks etc. I ride solo so the back seat is not a big issue for me. Don't mind Harleys, but they keep their value extremely well. Seems like the Yamahas don't comparitively for example. Might be better deals. I know I am going to get many different opinions, but that is what I am after. Look forward to your thoughts. Bob -
I went back to stock exhaust, unfortunatley one of the muffler gaskets is leaking and I have a trip coming up and might not have time to get a replacement shipped. my question is: I cant hear the leak but I can feel it. will i damage anything by riding anyway. thanks for the help

So, somebody talk to me about the intercom! We've been using a scala rider wireless set up, but are getting tired of it failing to "open" the mike when you talk. Better than nothing, but a LONG way from relliable IMHO. Looking at the hard wired set up on the bike. My question, if I'm running down the pike listening to the radio and I wanna talk with the wife then I'd hit the "talk" button on the bar, right? If not, how do we switch back and forth? Yeah, I know a dumb question, but the instructions in the owner's manual tonight look pretty "confusing" (or maybe I'm just tired??) Thanks ALL!

I would like to put chrome rims on my 2006 tour deluxe.I found a company Cycle Image out of California that dose a swap with your oem rims.You give them your core and they send you the original rim chromed.My question is how hard is it to install the bearings back on the rims, or do I need the dealer to do this.Thanks for any help you guys or gals can give me.

Just got a set of sealed bearings for the front end of my 1988. Question is the bearings are pre-greased but seem so very little, should I pack or use them as is. Thanks cimack77 -
My wife, Marca, got herself into a slight car accident yesterday. A young fellow, a customer of ours who feels really sorry now,,, made a left hand turn in front of her, but didn't push the gas quite hard enough and got caught in the act at the last milli-second. As the pictures show, really little damage was done, but it totals to $3200.00, mostly because it's a Saab and a 95 at that,, so,,, few used parts around. Question is,,, how does one deal with the adjuster when he comes around to make a FINAL offer,,,, I think they'll want to write it off,,, so how do I maximize my end????

If ya look at my picture, the left exhaust pipe is tan and the right one is darker. I havnt had a carb sync since 6/8/08. 09 the bike sat mostly and has 4000 miles on it since then. My mpg seems to be poor. My question is-- This something that a carb sync may fix or am I looking at a valve issue. Thanks to Freebird for an EXCELLENT pictoral and instructions regarding moving the fairing. I am about to do this myself so I can upgrade my Zumo 660 to the Zumo 665. Again, I appreciate the detailed instructions and I only have a couple of minor questions since the original instructions were written by Freebird in 2006. My first question is the 2 allen bolts size. I think they are 5mm, but I'm not for sure until I get some "ball end" allen wrenches. So are these bolts 5mm? My second question or request is for any additional tips for splitting the fairing or things that I should look for while the fairing is off. Thanks again for the great information. Wally

i got a question for you Texans. i dont have a cover for my bike so i was wondering if i could use one of those big 10 gallon hat covers that you put on your cowboy hats to cover the seat with when it rains? do you think it would stretch enough to fit?

I had a gas and maintenance program that I kept all of my information in. It was a free program that I could make logs for 3 vehicles.Anyway our computer crashed:starz: a couple of months ago We bought a new one . We were able to recover most everything, but this program did not survive. My question: Does anyone know where I can find another free program to continue keeping track of all I do on my vehicals? ( Sorry I don't remember the name of the program I had) Thanks

ok ..... I've read through a few threads and would like to ask a simple question as to how my 2002 midnight ventures gauge works. At about 175 miles odometer switches to F and starts to count up. Is that when I should switch to reserve ?? also some say to just run it set on reserve all the time ?? So my first question is how is it suppose to work and what works best for my friends riding these bikes ?? Dale ps. I haven't run out of gas yet, but have had it in sputter mode a few times.

Okay, I'm repainting my RSV. I really like the red of the H@nda GW. But now I was at this meeting, and there I saw a blue and red standing together. And I was very charmed of the blue one too. So here is my question, has anyone a picture o a dark-blue RSV? I searched om this forum, but that is really very time consuming. thanks in advance
