  1. kind of getting the bug for a new 1700 nomad. always liked the nomads from day one. the new voyager is a little more than i want. anyone know anything about the new nomad? it has the same motor as the voyager.
  2. Purchased another RSV(1999) and just got it on the road. I was wonder if anyone has the sound that my bike makes. Here is the sound as best I can describe. It is a deep whump whump sound. At first it reminded me of a head gasket leak type of sound. But there are non. It seems to come from the lower front of the motor. None of the mechanics that have worked on the bike have said anything. Motor head son-in-law said it sounded like the cam. Bike runs great just sounds different to me. I have put almost a thousand miles on this bike and want to know if anyone has had similar sounds or issues. Have planned 4000 mile trip this year. Should I be concerned?????
  3. Okay since I'm laid-off now i finally have time to work on the bike. Got busy today and so far have the motor pulled out of the bike and waiting for help to put it on the work bench. bad part about being laidoff is all your help is working for money when you try and get them to help. Anyhow sofar no signs of cracks in the case but the drive shaft appears bent and the output shaft of the motor has broken off. Not sur what thi means for what i might find inside the motor but has me hopeing i can repair and not have to part out
  4. Does anyone have a good suggestion on where I can get a bracket to hold my antenna on my '83? I've added a the OEM radio to the standard bike. I have the OEM antenna, but no bracket. I don't really have any way to fabricate one, and from what I've been able to see at Flatout Motor Sport, they don't sell the OEM anymore. So any help would be great! Thanks~
  5. I got stalled last week on the hyway : my ignition fuse blowed. My side stand relay does not work : I can start my stand down on first gear. Thank you ?
  6. the Withdrawal of my Membership at Venturerider.org !! !! NOT !! You won't get rid of me that easy !!! :whistling: But i'd like annouce the newest Addition to my Stable .... a brand new 2009 VMAX. http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto292%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto294%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto295%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto296%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto297%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto298%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto299%28Medium%29.jpg It was last Tuesday. My Wife gave me a ride over to the Dealer where i've ordered the Bike on 07/18/2008. My Wife dropped me at the Dealer and they have had everything preped as it was spoken over the Phone. My Payment went over the Bank the Friday before, so all we had to do was inspecting the Bike, get first Information's from the Sales Guy and off i go. My Wife left a bit earlier, because she had another Appointment at the Office. I said; i'll be there in two Hours or so ... When i took of the first Time, it was a strange Feeling. The Bike is fairly high, but the Pull this Motor produces is noticeable even at off Idle. When i had accustomed my self to the Seating Position, i was out of Town and riding over some wide and not too cornery Back Roads. The Asphalt was cold, it was only 4 Degrees Celsius that Day and with new Tires and cold Roads, you gotta take it easy. I was only revving up to 3 or 3.5 k because i don't want to ruin my Ride on the first Encounter. I stopped in front of the old Church to take the Pics and have a Smoke and grin onto my new Bike. After i took off, i was more encouraged and getting more on the Motor. I revved up to 4.5 k and some more but only with slightly opened Throttle. This Motor is awesome. I'm sure it will pull my Arms out soon. I arrived at the Office were my Bikes are sitting after 1.5 Hours and 35 mls ridden. My Wife said i was grinning all the Way from left to right Ear. I think she's right, i have some Problems with the Muscles in my Face since. The Bike will sit another 4 to 6 Weeks until the Weather clears up and i'm able to give it the Treatment it's ought to. Please refrain from Comments about how ugly this Bike looks. I know, and i don't like some Aspects like the Head Light and the Signals myself. I didn't buy it because of the Look, this will change anyway. I bought it for the Motor, the Frame, the Suspension, the Brakes. Everything else will be changed anyway sooner or later.
  7. Theres is a hollow rattling sound coming from front left of (05 XVZ 1300 ct) motor at medium revs dose some one have an idea on what it mite be or where it mite be coming from Thanks PIPER
  8. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/09april09_concepts.htm I like the lines of the v twin. wonder if the motor is any good.
  9. question to one and all will a 83 1200 venture motor swap into a 85 venture ???? thanx Merv
  10. The wife has 65K on her 05 Chevy Colorado with the 5 cylinder motor. Truck runs great but this is the third time it has been in for a engine service light on. GM dealer says even though it's out of warranty they will fix it for free. Something about a head replacement,Valve stem wear issue. The dealer says about $2K in work at no charge.I heard they were extending the warranty to 7 years or 100K for this problem. Has anybody had this problem fixed? I'm concerned about long term life of that motor. I would like to get about 200K of service from it.The plan was to run it another 5 years after paying it off and convert a truck payment into a new house investment. So much for a plan.Does anybody know of the I5 engines getting high mileage out of that motor.
  11. hello I am trying to find a part number for a fan motor relay on a 83 venture. I just bought this bike and it was having overheating problems and i diagnosed it and found out the relay is bad. I have checked autozone ect for a relay. does anybody have a relay part number they have tryed. the wiring diagram shows that when the notch is on top that plug 1 and 2 is for the coil and 3 and for is the switch ... can you please help i am trying to get this bike ready for a ride from wa state to texas in apr. thank you wolfmedic:255:
  12. Friends got a 92 Virago 1100. It has the updated starter assembly but still has a problem. It does not have the 2 spring clips that fail regularly. The starter intermediate gears that are on a spiral between the flywheel and motor do not return to the home position. These gears are on a pivot with a spring. Please tell me it is not the starter clutch that it $227!!! Any suggestions?
  13. Ok so i found a hose not connected to anything tonight on the left side of my motor. the hose goese down to a filter or somting on the left next to the frame and then in front of the motor drains i gueese , it looks like a vent/ drain line. but the top end of the hose is not connected to anything. any idea where its susposed to go I dont see any thing in my shop manuale. heres the pic of the hose. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/100_1422m.jpg
  14. I need some help, I was given a air compressor that had a burnt motor, I put a new 5hp motor on it, but when it would hit 35lbs in the tank, the back pressure would stop the motor,( probably what smoked the original motor) so I pull the head off of the pump, the head gasket is blown, all of the reed valves look good, I changed it out but same thing going on. so next I pull the check valve from the tank, ok, a small peice of junk is stuck in the valve, I clean it up, put all back together, thinking to my self that I now have a great Free compresser.... but nooooooo.... same thing happening:confused24: I have no clue what to check next, there is not much to these things, so I am at a loss... any Ideas?? Thanks!! PS... Free Air to any one that can help me out and get it working!! Kreg
  15. I have decided to let my 1 gen, go. I don't ride long distances as much these days and so I picked up a couple of sport touring bikes. There is a lot of work into this bike to make it nice and trouble free. Some of the parts on the bike I picked up from Condor here on the boards. I'm sure you can ask him about the condition of the bike and what he thinks as he has seen it threw out my building it. I got the 88 1300 motor from him. I can pull the auction when I want............ 16. I know this has been discussed ad nausium, but here we go again. Which screw on filter fits the 1stGen screw on oil adapter. There's a FRAM on the '91 now, but the writing and stock number are gone. Why? Donno...?? The only thing I can think of is it's been on there for a very very long time. I haven't changed the oil in it since I picked it up... but then again I haven't taken it anywhere either.. I thought I'd try putting MC specific motor oil in it to see if that will cure the leak. From what I can see it looks like it's coming from around the back of the pan gasket. I also found traces of silicon around the drain plug as if the PO thought that might have been the source of the leak?? And ...he may have put a synthetic in the motor?? It worth a shot to see if it'll work. Anyway, again, what's the filter number. Anyone?? If that doesn't work I'll be taking it over to a tech. Getting too old to be crawling around on my back. A chair is a good thing...
  17. I was just wondering if any VR's would be attending the March of Dimes ride at Atlanta Motor Speedway. If anyone is interested maybe we could meet and ride in together.
  18. While watching a segment of American Thunder that covered the Harley History Museum, they covered a bike that had never been released to the public called the Nova. It had a V4 water cooled motor. Very interesting......... Did a little search on Google and came up with THIS
  19. I am a former Police Motor Officer with the Gulfport, Ms. Police Department. Today a brother officer and motor cycle rider was killed http://www.sunherald.com/pageone/story/749920.html Hope it's ok to post the below in his memory: Motor Officers Prayer It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright... And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight. They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast... They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past. Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one... From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun. And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by... A nd young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes. They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you... They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few. Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light... then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight. Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again... You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind. Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound... And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground. So if you see one riding, and you look into his face... You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe. For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind... And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again. By Author Unknown
  20. 1st pics of the VBoost mounted on motor, concerned about air box and mounting. This setup increases top of carb heighth 1" above original. Makes ya wanna go----hmmmmmm. Dan Try this a gain
  21. I've noticed a LOT of concern for the soft thrust split washer on 2nd gear (and rightly so). Rather than take a chance on wasting a motor, why couldn't we just skip 2nd (except when in a tight) since there's power to spare? I realize that it takes a lot of the fun out of riding, but replacing the motor isn't much fun either. Just a thought.......
  22. I'm going to have my German buddy to translate this. I'm thinking the motor is 410 cubic inches! http://estb.msn.com/i/66/1290F923A63CCDBD1DD47A404144.jpg http://estb.msn.com/i/6A/14D0CDB2974C29194D9C8F1C99D.jpg http://auto.de.msn.com/news/artikel.aspx?cp-documentid=8914324

  24. I have a 1983 XS650 that will start fine using the enricher however the enricher does not seem to increase RPM the way it should, anyway the only way to keep the engine running until the motor is hot is to increase the idle speed by turning in the idle stop screw about 1 to 1.5 turns, eventually when you blip the throttle the motor will start to free wind on its own, when this happens you can turn the idle stop screw back out the 1 to 1.5 turns and the engine will idle fine and the bike will operate fine until you go to restart it again when it has gotten cold. The carbs were not on the bike when I got it ( they were apart in a box ) The carbs have been rebuilt, the diaphragms are all good an the intake adapters are new, I have had my Carbtune on it and all checks out fine, the mixture screws are set at 13/4 out from seat + or - a little, the air boxes are sealed, I can't think of anything else except. HELP PLEASE .
