  1. A girlfriend of ours needs a new chain and she is on a budget what would be a good brand of chain without spending a arm and a leg. Shop quoted her 300 bucks installed but I'm pretty sure I can put it on. 1999 Honda VLX 650 or 600 cc Thanks
  2. Well I finally got her back together, certified and registered (new plate) and got her out for the shakedown ride this evening. I was like a little kid...so exited, I was about three click from home when I realized I didn't have the mirrors installed. Back home I went..got em on and back out again. Only two concerns; 1) a slight miss but I know I'll have to sync the carbs (new diaphragms installed). 2) she was wandering very slightly at highway speeds and I'm wondering if I need to tweak the air pressure in my new Kenda Kruz's. When I got home I was checking her over and found that the fork brace was only finger tight (DOH!!!) so that's likely the problem there? I'll find out tomorrow on the way to work. Will try to post pics tomorrow. Heroes Highway ride Saturday...woohoo!
  3. Any simple way to remove the needle valve seats for replacement? Or is it a better idea to inspect and clean the ones currently installed?
  4. On my cb I can transmit ok by when I receive it's has static in the background just installed a light bar would this be causing interference?
  5. I just ordered the large Baggershield windshield. I already have the same size shield (10.5 inch) now but would be nice for it to be a little wider. This new shield is about 4 inches wider than my current Cee Bailey. My wife gets alot of turbulence on the back with this shield. Hopefully the wider shield helps with that. I'll report back when I get the shield installed. Ron
  6. When I bought my 2007 RSV (2nd owner) it had the saddlebag guard rails installed. I think the PO had them installed by his dealer. There is no red side reflector on the guard rails, but all of the pics I see of RSV's without the guard rails show a reflector on the chrome bar in front of the saddle bag. This bar is obviously removed to install the guard rails. I wonder why Yamaha thought it was necessary to have a reflector on the original factory machine, but not on their accessory guard rails? Has anyone added a reflector(s) to the guard rail(s), and if so, what/where/how? Just seems like it should be there (for legal requirements?).
  7. i just had the rear caliper rebuilt by earl. bled the front and rear calipers with speed bleeders. the pedal wont come back up all the way. it keeps the brake light engaged. i checked the brake switch spring and its it good condition. it just seems to have resistance to return all the way. any ideas? proportioning valve bad? time for new lines and de-link? and im in northern michigan now. just got Hughesnet installed yesterday. water lines were busted and critters got into cabin, thats why i havnt been around last couple weeks.
  8. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between Macs and Jardines? I bought the bike with aftermarket pipes that are just a bit too loud for my taste. I installed pipes from a Harley to take the "bark" out and can't find any identifying marks on aftermarket pipes. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. I picked up a set of Dunlop E3's for my 08 RSV. Front - 150/80-16 , the Rear I was sold was a MV85/B15. My manual says 150/90-15. Is the MV85/B15 the same as what is required, under a different part number? I want to make sure before I have them installed.
  10. Guest

    Delivered today.

Got my new Utopia backrest in the mail today . Can't wait to install it. Hopefully I can get to it Wednesday night. For those of you who have already installed one, any tricks you want to share with me, or is it as simple as the pictures show?
  11. Yesterday afternoon, I got around to installing the new Avons that I had ordered. Ran into something that I found a bit strange. I had my last set installed and balanced at a local shop. They didn't have much weight on them but what I found strange was that when I removed the existing weights and then put the the wheels with newly installed tires on my balancer, they showed to be HEAVY exactly where the weights had been. I found this on both the front and rear wheels. On both wheels, I ended up adding weight to the exact opposite side to where they had previously been. It leads me to believe that maybe the shop that balanced the last set didn't know what they were doing and actually had put the weights on the heavy side instead of where they should have been. I didn't notice any problem when riding it but there was only about 1 ounce of weights installed. Anyway, I got them done, new breaks installed front and rear, engine oil and rear end oil changed, rear splines greased, front fender rail that I bought from Pioneer at Maintenance Day installed. Polished the chrome this morning and it sure looks pretty sitting in the garage. Now I sure wish I had time to ride it somewhere.
  12. Son of a Bike the Venture is... DANG.!! I did the Polk401B replacement today. DANG. I ain't that much trouble with a screw since I was 18 years old. The replacement is simple technically, but DANG, getting to those nuts is tough (again, I ain't heard that since I was 18). The LEFT SIDE (clutch side) was the worst!!! It took me a total of about 5 hours (this includes numerous breaks - temps here around 98 degrees). I also installed baffles behind the speakers...and that was easy enough to do, but you're doing some stuffing. At first I hooked up (installed) one of the Polks and compared the sound...takes a LOT more volume for the same sound on the Polks. At first I even considered leaving the Clarions (stock) on the bike...but when I put the baffles in...the sound changed and the speakers sounded pretty dang good, so I changed the other side out. The RIGHT SIDE took HALF the time to install that the left side did... More of a review after I have used these speakers for awhile. Wally
  13. Well, I'm waiting for my RSV seats to get back from Rick Butler and my clutch kit from Earl. No problem...got my Triumph "summerized" on Sunday and took her for a quick shakedown cruise. Seems OK but steering seemed a bit heavy even though I had checked the tire pressure. OK, something to check for the next time. Went out to use her today and quickly realized that the front tire is nearly flat (2 season old Michelin with only about 7,000 km)...what the...? Checked more closely and discovered that the tire valve is split and nearly falling off. I had forgotten to ask for new valves when the tires were installed in July /2010 and it seems most shops don't do it automatically. So...I get to pull off the wheels and bring them in to have new valves installed (At $34 per wheel!) and, as a bonus, they won't try to save my Dyna Beads, so those will have to be replaced later, by me. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH! 10 bucks says the 55 F + temps we've been having will disappear by the time I can get this done or get my RSV parts in/back. As before....AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Andy
  14. Well, the Canadian Cruiser Custom HID light that I installed last April has developed a mind of it's own. Sometimes it won't light up and when it does light, when it decides it goes out. It did that several nights ago, so thank goodness for the passing lights!!! The middle little "bump" in the bulb is cloudy, and I don't remember if it was that way when I installed it. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this kit, to determine if the bulb has failed or if the ballast has gone out? Oh well, for now the bike has a brand new Silverstar Ultra installed.
  15. So I have a question for those who have installed new seals in their front forks. Have you ever found non-OEM seals to be too thick after installation ? I installed a set of Pyramid seals that came with the bike and I can not get the lock clip in. They appear to be all the way down. The bushing was tapped all the way down but the thickness of all 3 pieces on both sides appears to be 20/1000's too thick. Gonna have to take it all apart to measure, but just wondering if anybody ever found that to be an issue. Yea...I know some of you told me not to use after market seals... just seemed like an easy way to save $40.00.
  16. The maintenance is done! Thanks guys for all of the help. My Rick Butler seat came in today to round off the package. I replaced all of the broken plastic. (no more tie-wraps) Changed the starter/thermostat/o-rings/antifreeze Balanced the carbs Repaired the CLASS system Changed the oil and filter Installed a remote garage door opener (works off of the high beam switch) Installed brake activated flasher LEDs in the front and rear lights (This may get me in trouble) I may still do Progressive springs. (probably will) Bring on the nice weather!
  17. Has anyone installed one of these Shield Edge Trimming? http://www.saeng.com/product.php?id=581&category=80
  18. NOt very happy this afternoon. Today started out with me going to have my new Dunlop E3 rear installed on the Venture. Arrived at Cycle Nation about 9:45am. They quickly took my bike in to the service bay. I spoke to parts about a price match from Motorcycle Superstore and got $30 refunded. That's when the "Happy" feeling went south. Turns out that their warehouse sent the wrong size tire. That wouldn't be too bad, but service already removed my rear tire from the rim. So they gave me a ride home and I wait till the correct tire comes in to be installed. Hopefully by Wed. It's always something...
  19. How the &^#$*@ do you change the text size??? Got tired if IE constantly stopping working so I installed Mozilla. Never used it before...
  20. Got my new Clearview Shields installed today. Wasn't quite as easy as some said but overall not too bad. Just an FYI. I bought a blemished one due to the speed I needed it and I still can't find the blemish. Got it for 20% off. Also had the vent included. I took it out for a quick spin and even though it's shorter than the stock there seemed to be less wind buffeting around the head area and it seemed quieter overall. One thing that surprised me what how much damage there is around the fairing where the shield was mounted before. I took the word of someone else and saw it for the first time today. It looked like whoever installed the stock shield put the bolts in way too tight. Most of the fairing was broken/cracked. Hopefully the bolts will hold it in place.
  21. I found this on ebay for $70, it is installed, looks and works Great. Total of an hour to install. This is real effective in lighting up the back of the bike.
  22. OK folks. I just installed a security update to our forum software. I think I got all the necessary mods made but please let me know if you see anything that is not working properly.
  23. Doing maintenance checks on newly aquired 99 RSV with 55k and found the air filters were installed with the tab on top of the slot they are meant to go into, leaving a small gap. I wondered why the air intakes had a layer of dust/dirt on them when I removed the filter housing. Care to guess how much shorter the engine life is now? In the process of trying to find when they were replaced, but they didn't look new! Also the brake fluid looked like the original, like a dark beer color. Everything seems to work fine though, hope she lasts a few years!
  24. I finally got the LED's installed on my V Star. They were given to me at Vogel by Infonaut, aks Peter Harris from Philadelphia, Pa. Peter is going to be making up sets for bikes and hopefully selling them, and has also expressed interest in doing a maintaince day for LED's here in Newnan. If you contact him I am sure he can help you out big time. He gave me enough to do over my engine and then some but I only had enough connectors to do on length. That will likely change in the future as soon as I can buy some more. I posted some pics here and a short vid of them in action. These suckers are bring so good thing there is a dimmer on the remote.
  25. i have talked to the loan company about my motorcycle there is a small loan on it that is now being paid by the insurance company. i took out that benifit in case of finance problems so far there paying the loan payments. but they will release the bike for the right price? as of right now its back together just needs some things tighten up and i will go up there and do this latter. as most pepole know im in a finance bind and can hardley make ends meet. the storage runs $75 a month and after august i can no longer afford this. so my thoughts are sell it give the money to the loan company and get out from under it. or if someone close by is willing to store it for free that would be great!!! im looking at this workers comp case to end by december. also the loan company said i could just trade it and they would hold the title to the new bike. and the insurance pepole will still make payments. so that gave me another thought maybe someone has a smaller bike that runs they would trade straight up for so i can do a little ridding this year? ihate to get rid of it. but here is a list if what has been done to it #1 new dunlop tires 404 last year less then 500 miles on them. #2 skydocks fuse up grade #3 nice exhaust put on used from ebay but all there from front to back includeing the nice collector. and turn down tips. #4 new brakes with new rear rotor this was a $1200 fix that was part of haveing the exhaust and brakes done. have recipet. #5 used radiotor from skydock and used hoses new antifreeze installed i ran the bike and no leaks thanks skydock and the other member who gave me the hoses. also installed the side plugs? that dingy sent again no leaks. #6 nice battery that i bought at a harley shop cost $125 gel type less then 7 months old and i used skydocks battery sender wire to stop the flashing light on the computer. and im sure there is other stuff im forgetting? now the bad she needs the carbs sync she idles ok but needs the choke to start it? after about a minute choke can be pulled off and she idles but a little rough? seafoam was added at storage and new plugs installed. she needs a paint job its faded and there are some of the usual crack. rear trunk passenger pad needs to be redone shes ripped. ihvae the chrome rack but nedds 2 screws removed they broke off but the rack is still nice and shinny. could use a new clutch and front brake master the sight glass is ugly. a little time by you experts here and this bike will run like it should. it has 77k on her. but if some one is willing to store it i would like to keep it or trade for a small bike till next year once again many thanks to all of the help from you great pepole sincerly oldgoat
