  1. I have read the posts on turn signal issues but I am looking for flasher relay and not finding it. Left side upper fairing ?????? Any one, thanks in advance (1989)
  2. And what type is used in the rsv? that is the number and shape of the prongs.
  3. I need a source (auto parts store, amazon, etc) and a part number for a LED Flasher for my 1st gen bike. Do I need a 2 wire or 3 wire flasher? Where is the stock flasher located in the fairing? I read about a dual component flasher and a starter circuit unit that's combined into ONE unit together; then I read of a individual flasher; I'm just a little confused. Does my bike have the dual component or the single flasher? Thanks in advance.
  4. Hey Guys: I would like to replace both my rear turn signals as well my front ones with LED's. I don't want to loose the 4 way flasher, what can I do to get this all together? Sponge Bob It's a dry heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I was looking on some other motorcycle forums and came across a modification to alter a stock flasher to work with led turn signals and keep the original flasher and the self cancellation function.www.650ccnd.com/PDFs/Flasher_mod_Revised.pdf . I haven't learned how to attach a link, but maybe some one who does will do that for us.I did a google search for Denso flasher modification, and it was the second link that was on the first page. When I convert my turn signals,I'm going to try this to keep the original functions.Hope this helps someone and thanks to the person that invented this and posted a step by step with pictures.
  6. So I've had my 99 RSV completely apart for the last month and a half doing a really nice restoration on it along with some mods thanks to the help of WillBill1 on here. Things are starting to come back together, just got back all my parts from paint. Today we were working on getting all of the electrical back together and adding the Harley License Plate Frame on the back and installing a passing light bar and lights up front. Here's the problem.... all of the Hazard lights seem to be working as they should, however when we go to use the turn indicators none of them work and the flasher unit make a buzzing noise. Everything else works, passing lights, running lights ect. We have checked and double checked all connections and they all look good. Before taking the bike apart everything worked fine. What do you guys think the problem could be? Please Help!! :confused24:
  7. I couldn't find the thread where somebody was looking for the turn signal flasher.
  8. Can anyone tell me where the emergency flasher switch is suposed to be mounted on an '83 VR?
  9. The maintenance is done! Thanks guys for all of the help. My Rick Butler seat came in today to round off the package. I replaced all of the broken plastic. (no more tie-wraps) Changed the starter/thermostat/o-rings/antifreeze Balanced the carbs Repaired the CLASS system Changed the oil and filter Installed a remote garage door opener (works off of the high beam switch) Installed brake activated flasher LEDs in the front and rear lights (This may get me in trouble) I may still do Progressive springs. (probably will) Bring on the nice weather!
  10. Got the turnsignal / flasher fixed and all back together. And everything works. Engine is warming up right now. Thank you all for the help. But I need some more help. This one bolt, I do not know where it came from. It fits a 12 mm socket. I took the headlight out to get to some of the electricial. I took the steering cover off. I took the Air Compressure unit out, with the fairing cover so I could remove the flasher switch. I took the 2 side covers off. I took the seat out, but it is now back on with the 2 seat bolts. Any ideas?
  11. This weekend I finally got around to remeding the fast flash of the led lights I have on the back of the bike. I had tried a couple of the load balancers in the past without success except for the last option I tried yesterday. Anyhow I ended up using a Custom Dynamics Metric Signal Stablizer -- http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalizer.htm#Metric_Signal_Stabilizer I put the stablizer under the right side cover and attached the wires to the flasher. Works great now with a flash rate that is much more normal and consistant with the 4 ways and stock flash rate. There is one drawback to attaching it there and that is you lose the self cancelling feature. I can live with that since I usually cancelled the lights anyhow. Old habits are hard to die. Larry UPDATE: Today I realized that the turn signals are indeed self cancelling after all.
  12. Can anyone tell me which wire is the hot that goes to the brake light? I can't find a good wireing diagram. I recently bought a flasher for the brake light. Thanks.
  13. Installed 56 bulb LED tail lamp lights on my trailer. Running lights work fine but stop and turn lights flash fast and very dim. Heard I have to install a resistor on stop and turn wire or replace the flasher on the bike to a LED Flasher. Anyone with the best fix and where is the flasher, have searched under the seat with no luck.
  14. Hello everyone, I just finished my trailer wiring. I used a hopkins converter so I could use the brake/turn signal combo on my trailer. Everything seemed to be easy and the trailer lights work fine. Until I use my 4-way flasher, they do not work with the trailer connected. Disconnect the trailer and they work fine. Any Thoughts? The bike is a 2004 RSV.
  15. The 4-way flashers on my 08 RSV are not working... Turn signals all work fine. Tried turning on the 4-ways with 1) The ignition turned on but the bike not running 2) The bike running I've looked at the service manual, and it appears that there isn;t a fuse or flasher unit specific to the operation of the 4-way flashers. Is it possible that the 4-way switch may have corrosion or simply be "bad"? So....once again...I turn the to wealth of knowledge located on this board! Suggestions?
  16. Hi guys.. wondering if someone could help me out with something here.. I can't seem to find my way around this.. basically two parts to this, please bear with me.. (keep your clothes on, I didn't say "bare") Last year my signal flasher broke down and I had to replace it with a new one.. the mechanical flasher was located under the right side cover under by the seat.. simple plug and play.. However, while waiting for that one to come in, I picked up an Electronic LED FLASHER that would work for both incandescent and LED signal lights and not require load equalizers etc as it's all part of the package thing.. Its not a plug and play but someone had sent me info on how to splice it into the bike's wiring etc. Before I had time to attempt it, someone found me a proper OEM flasher unit and I put this electronic one on the shelf.. (photo with info on box and flasher) Does anyone recognize or/and know where I can get info about it etc etc? Now, the second part is that I purchased and installed a pair of Genesis Flat LED Turn Signal White BAZ Eclipze2 (Custom Dynamics) and wow, are these things insanely frikken bright!!! Perfect with the HID headlight etc.. They are white LED that stay on all the time but turn off as you signal to flash on off on off.. but they stay on all the time.. making you very visible to blind cagers.. hopefully.. But being LED they flash fast.. oh well.. I can live with that.. man these are bright! NICE! Someone stated that if you put load equalizers in the circuit to slow the flash rate down, you then lose the self canceling ability of the system.. Not sure if that is true or not. Then thinking.. Hmmm what about that LED flasher unit?? Put that into the system and voila.. the flash rate slows down and ... self canceling we'll find out. BUT the fun is I cannot remember where I got that LED flasher from, or how it splices into the system properly.. Anyone? Bueller?
  17. A couple question for you guys who might know off the top of your heads. First, I'm replacing all my turn signal bulbs with LED's. So I need to change my old load resistor type flasher and hazard relays with new electronic relays. Do any of you know right off hand what the electronic equivalents to the FU257CD/NIPPONDENSO flasher relay and the FR-9H22/MITSUBA hazard relays are? Second, Will the self canceling unit still work as it should, or will it have to be replaced as well? If it will need to be replaced, what is its electronic equivalent? Its model/manufactures #'s are YH-001/MATSU****A. If this guy won't work properly after the LED conversion and there is no electronic equivalent, it's no big deal. I usually cancel the turn signal myself anyway. But it would be nice that it work as it should for those times when I forget to turn off the dang thing myself. Thanks, Bill P.S. I already remedied the flashing LED on the dash problem. I simply jumped the reed switches on the computer instead of going with those inline resistors. I was just to damn cheap.
  18. Harrison Specialties, LLC has a three prong flasher for motorcycles/cars that will flash from one diode to twenty amps. Claims that this is in place of flash modules (read heaters) for LED conversions. Is anybody using something similar. My LED conversions are getting faster flash than they used to, so I figure the modules are going bad. I have had them on since 2002.
  19. Today while riding i met up with a friend who i hadnt seen in a while. we got to talking i was saying i was thinking of putting a "back off" modulater on my RSV and said look at this. ( i should have taken pics) but instead of putting that on his bike he went to a saftey supply store and bout a red led flasher the type used on police and fire and mounted this to his sissy bar it has a built in flasher so all he did was wire it to the brake light hit the brakes and bingo has a flashing brake light for the low low cost of around 30 bucks. not a bad idea from a guy who rides a Harley........ just putting the idea out there. Ron
  20. i've posted this request in the Watering Hole and considering my request is about RSTD i thought i would post here as well. i have an 07 midnight RSTD and was instalingl passing lamp mount bar part # STR-1D635-40-00 and found that i cannot fit my OEM flasher lamp onto the special bolt which is provided with the mount bar kit. the mount bolt is .020 (20 thousandth) larger in diameter than the flasher lamp mount hole (with rubber sleeve removed). no way it will fit. anyone here with an 07 that has done the passing lamp mod and if so could you provide me with the part numbers you used to do the job....thanks....HELP !! Merry Christmas to all ........ buz
  21. I started another thread so if any one had downloaded prior versions they would see the update. With help from Ozlander I believe that this is about as good as I can get this schematic. I have added the internal wiring on relays & rectifier. Added coil resistance on relays, generator & ignition coils. Added ignition coil #'s and location on bike. Added bulb p/n's. Cleaned up the wiring in handle bar switch area some more. Overall I have eliminated as many wire crosses as I can. Electrically, this matches what is in the owners manual. I didn't show internal wiring for flasher relay as it is fairly complex, not just a standard flasher. This looks best at 11" x 17" size. Office Max or Staples can print in color at that size for about a dollar. Dingy
  22. I am looking to install a LED integraded license plate frame and a brake light flasher. Both are from Signal Dynamics. The installation looks pretty straight forward. Any "watch outs" before I do?
  23. Good Morning Everyone! My question is about the amount of time the turn signal flasher stays on before it self cancels. It seems to me mine stays on alot longer sometimes. Then other times it cancels quickly. Is there a set time for this proceedure to happen, or does it depend on the circumstance? Oh buy the way i'm talking about a 2008 RSV. Thanks and Ride Safe!
  24. I have searched the other forums and threads for an answer to my problem but I haven't found one yet. My right turn signal blinks rapidly while the left blinks normally. I have tried to locate any possilbe shorts with no luck. The manual suggests the flasher relay as the culprit and I am leaning that way also. My question is: Has anyone ever heard of a flasher relay failing for one side and not the other? If so then a new relay it is for me. If not any assitance will be appreciated.
  25. erhm are any of you gents and ladies electrically inclined to be able to help me out with this one? I've come to realize that my 4 way flashers no longer work, I am not able to find a clymer book to help me with the trouble shooting so I'm hoping one of you savvy individuals can assist me.. With the bike running or not, ignition switch on (bike not running), I have my turn signals working properly if the 4 way flasher switch is to "off" position. However, when the 4 way flasher switch is to the "on" position, the signal lights won't flash. Someone has told me that it's a simple 4 way relay change but don't know the part number or location or 'anything else' about it.. Anyone able to help me out with this one? Many thanks in advance! Cheers
