  1. hello all hope i can get help my bike keeps cutting off and after about 30 or 40 sec it will crank up and run it is intermant. i had the ing switch go bad about 3 years ago i did the by pass and soldered the wires i found no bad connections any help bumble bee 1999 rsv lexington sc
  2. I was wondering if one of you still have a good TCI for the 84. I think mine might be bad, and don't know where I can get one to try. If you are willing to lend me one, I will cover shipping
  3. I was just on line looks for a trailer hitch for my RSV and found Mchitch Receiver Style hitchs so I am wondering if anybody has used one of these? Price i'snt to bad at $175. AD doesnt say what shipping will be. it comes in black power coat.
  4. Last week, I replace a bad coil on my RSV. It was the right rear (number 3) coil. I was talking to a couple of other RSV owners today and they commented that everybody they know who has had to replace a coil it has been the number 3 coil. If you have replace a coil, which one was it that was bad? I'm just wondering if there is a pattern here and if so, why the number 3 is going bad.
  5. Ok I've looked thru the site here, the shop manual, and even checked out the bike short of actually stripping parts off of it. I've seen the wires coming out of the stator cover and see the plug for the regulator but where those go between the two is a mystery. I'm looking for that white connector ya all talk about going bad. Seeing as my bike is 6 years old I thought it'd be a good time to check it. Don't have any problems now but don't want any supprises down the road either. Larry
  6. I used to have an awesome tire gauge purchased years ago from Roadgear.. http://roadgear.com//ready-digital-tire-gauge-p-39.html?osCsid=511f930054c43a7b8504bb4dc4a73edd Unfortunately, I lost mine on an earlier road trip this year and bought a replacement and one for my buddy.. Unfortunately, the new version has turned out to be nothing but crap crap and more crap.. The company has been good enough to issue out new replacements without charge.. But those were not working properly either.. bad electronics in them like the previous ones.. then they sent again NEW gauges but those too were crap.. They acknowledged they discovered a bad production batch, either bad integrated circuit boards or bad batteries or both festering their stock.. So they sent me new gauges again (4th time now) and though one of the pair works, one of them failed miserably.. The alert is about how the seemingly working gauges reads 10 PSI too high of what the pressure actually is.. Every dead gauge that worked for a while then failed would read 10 PSI too high. My worry is that there might be a lot of people using these gauges and running around with too high of pressures in their tires.. Since some of us run our tires at the maximum ratings as it is, I would have to think what would happen on a long highway trip with 50 or 55 PSI in your tires? So if you have one of these gauges, do yourself the favour and double check them against another gauge to make sure you're not inadvertently heading for a dangerous situation..
  7. Riding to work I have been having an issue with the am side of radio not working sometimes. But today a bigger problem the whole dash shuts off the bike will run but like crap no acceleration hit a pot hole dash lights up bike runs fine. I can start it when dash is out and idle but give it throttle it dies. Now what I have noticed is that the clock is at the right time when it reappears I dont have to reset it. My cruise also will not engage. My rear brake will not activate the brake light either. I started cleaning fuses then the bike started but hit another bump crap running dash out. Any ideas? Bad ground? Bad TCI? Bad or corroded fuses?
  8. Tried to turn down my rear rotor at work. To take the edge off , but thought what the heck I will just do it all. Well that wasn't the thing to do. Didn't look bad when done, but it pulses bad. It will wear down again, but real hard to do slow turns. Didn't know if someone triked theirs lately that would still have one. Don't have cash for a new one and on ebay there is only three on there. Which none of them are very cheap. Any help I would be thankful for.
  9. Once again I am faced with dreaded electrical issues. After successfully upgrading my fuse box (Thanks Skydoc and GeorgeS) I was feeling confident to tear apart the dash and replace all dash light bulbs and solder CMU (in way over my head with the CMU now) anyway I notice some of the bulbs are very dim and burn for a bit when key is first turn on but then flicker out. I have turned the dimmer knob up and down and although it does affect the bulbs that are lit normal it does not affect the dim lit bulbs. I would think if there was a bad ground all the bulbs would be affected, but I am far from knowing electrical issues. On a side note, anyone know of a good soldering person here in WA state? I have CMU out and apart but I am not sure I see any issues. But the battery light jumper wire MOD is not working and the gear indicator will go in and out on occasion. But other than those two issues the digital display works fine. http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac264/bobandlou3/Dash_Bulb.jpg
  10. She, my bike that is, and I are finally getting a Yamaha shop close to home. Grand opening this week end. Starting Friday and going through Sunday. Now the other she in my life, might think this is bad for us, but Naaahh, not me. http://www.caverunmotorsports.com/ Fuzzy
  11. I installed a set of driving lights about 6 months ago. I wired them independently, with a relay and switch. The lights have recently started going out and coming back on at random times. When i installed them i made sure to have very good ground connections to avoid ground problems later. My question is, could a bad relay act this way? I have already replaced the switch, and since the switch is a lighted switch, i can see when the lights go out. When they do go out after i shut down my bike for awhile, i try them and they work. I think it could be the relay. When i replace it what should i look for? Im sorry, electrical circuits are not my strength.
  12. After a couple of close calls recently, I decided to get a better horn. Bopped over to Harbor Freight and snagged a Wolo "Bad Boy" (Strebel clone). I've got the electrical part down (played with Trons in the Navy...), but I'm not sure about the mounting. I'm pretty sure I can pull off one of the stock horns and mount the Bad Boy in its place, but I'm concerned about heat from the engine, so I'm considering mounting the horn inside the fairing. Thoughts? Thanks, and Y'All ride safe...
  13. I have been having some low back pain now for several weeks, I just got over a bout of Bursitis, which was very, very painful, I had an appointment for followup from that today. While at work today I was leaning up against a table in an office just resting and all of a sudden something pinched really really bad in my lower back and I almost hit the floor. I didnt really think much about it and took some pain meds. Later I starting noticing how painful it was to walk and everytime I put weight on my right foot it hurt my back like hell. So I went to the Dr. as scheduled and told him what was going on and he examined me and sent me for some x-rays. When he came back in the room the cheery smile was gone from his face as he sat down to show Charlene and I the results. First thing was I have scoliosis in my lower back, a little higher up signs of arthritis, and then the real bad part was a slipped vertebrae that was causing the pinching and pain. I couldnt believe there would be that much. So now I have to go back next week to a spine dr. and have either an MRI or CAT scan. No new pain meds cause I am already on them and they aint working, so he prescribed Steroids, in massive dose, went to get it filled and its backoredered from the mfg. Nobody had them, now I have to wait another day for the Dr to change the script. And I am also going to physical therapy to see if that helps..........Now I am seeing some of the same Dr.'s that Charlene was seeing for all of her problems...............Cant catch a break:bang head: All of this and Vogel 2 months away!!!!!!!!!!!!. :crying:
  14. Been having a lot of pain in my neck the last couple of weeks and it's gotten so bad I finally went to the Doctor today. Yes you guess it, another surgery coming up. They took an x-ray and the look on the Doctors face as he came in said it all. Two vertebrata that you could see at the base of the neck have collapsed onto each other and he fears there is more below the shoulder area the x-ray doesn't show. They are setting me up for an MRI so they can see just how bad it is. I knew about every 5 years I would have to have surgeries to extend the rods in my back as the vertebrates keep deteriorating but they started at the bottom of my spine and have been working their way up. Will know more after the MRI and consulting with the neurosurgeon. At least this time I shouldn't have to ware that awful brace for 4 months. Crap, I just didn't need this right now. Vent done.
  15. I LOVE MY JOB! If you don't laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma! This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy. Bob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana . He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.5 FM in Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won. ~Hi Sue, Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all. Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi. Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my ass started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it, however, the crack of my ass was not as fortunate.. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my ass. I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say, I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't **** for two days because my ass was swollen shut. So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your ass. Now repeat to yourself, 'I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.' Whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day? May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day! !!!! Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift. ~

  17. So I'm at a red light and I see in my rearviews this little red Suzuki car barrelling up behind me. It was apparent to me this gal was NOT paying attention to her driving as she was jacking her jaws on her cellphone. I hit the throttle and got out of her way just in time to avoid being seriously rear-ended.....And of course she blew the red light big time! She got t-boned so bad her vehicle was pushed across 2 lanes of opposing traffic and right onto the sidewalk. I parked the scoot in a safe location and helped her get out of her vehicle and sit down. No serious injuries except for a nice laceration on the side of her head from smacking her door frame. She was more concerned about the location of her cell phone than anything else! I don't even want to think about how bad it would have been if she had rear-ended me at the speed she was going! Gave the LEO my statement and I'm purty sure I'll be called to Court for the lawsuit she's gonna get slapped with by the driver who nailed her. Keep yer head onna swivel and check those rearviews often my friends! Boomer....who sez unleashing a group of pygmies in the Courthouse could prove to be pretty darn comical....

  19. I got a call at 11 last night that my elderly mom had taken a bad turn. The family rallied around, the parish priest gave her her final blessings at 3 this morning and she went off to be with god and my father at 7 this morning. 11 children, 43 grand children and 27 great grand children and all of the spouses will now just have our memories. Hug your children for me will ya........
  20. Had chaps made by them, to protect my bad legs from the heat of the day. Only got mesh on the backs. Now I have the Harley I'm feeling bike heat bad on the back of my right thigh...due to it being stiff, and the angle straight down. Contacted Lorna to purchase some heat shield fabric....won't let me pay! She is going to hem it for me AND mail it to utadventure's address -- at her cost :clap2::clap2: Nice folks:sign yeah that:
  21. I am looking to get a seat and backrest for my RSTD... I have a Mustang seat on my VTX1300 and I like it, but I recently sat on an Ultimate seat and man was it nice..... I was wondering if I could get some feedback, good, bad, or indiferent from anyone that has had either of these on their RSTD or RSV.. Thanks, Robert C.
  22. Left the house 6:00am for work this morning and got about 3/4 mile when a big doe ran out in front of me. I hit her about 50-55 mph.She hit into the fairing and then rolled up onto the saddle bag and back seat.I got lucky and kept the bike up. And as best i can tell didnt get a scratch on the bike..Some blood and alot of hair. She got up and ran into the woods.Put a good scare into me and certainly could have been bad. Thanks Chris:fingers-crossed-emo
  23. Got a nice for Christmas but did not come with instructions. Any one offer advice on how to install this bad boy?
  24. Have a '99 Venture and the factory horn died. I'm looking to install a Bad Boy where the factory horn was mounted on the right side of the bike. Can any one give me some help and / or suggestions as how to do it and what to mount it too? Pictures would be really nice...heck pictures would be wonderful!!! Thanks, George (StarUmp) Portland, Oregon:confused24:
  25. I'm trying to figure out how to fix my ongoing turbulence issues. It really is only a problem on the interstate about about 70mph plus. I have put on the largest Clearview Shield they make (without the curved top), their lowers, Buddy's deflectors, and it still was pretty bad on the interstate. It is like getting hammered on the helmet going down the road. 15 minutes of this and I have a headache. At 60, it is all just fine, but sometimes we just would rather be traveling on the interstate so we can get somewhere faster. Going across South Dakota is one of those types of places. Anyway, I decided to try to fix this. I have seen on this forum people taking a seat belt cushion and sewing in magnets and sticking along side the tank. I does seem like the turbulence is a result of air coming around the tank. I was hoping for something more permanent and something that doesn't look as bad. So, I took an old pair of Nomad lowers that I had put on my wife's Nomad a few years ago and with cable ties and duct tape, put them on the Royal Star. Out for a ride and it seems quite a bit better. I went in as many directions on a very windy (diagonal winds, 22mph with gusts to 30mph) and I think this might work. So, the next thing is to build my own lowers that would like these, but don't hit the windshield or the lower fairing when the forks are turned. Here is a picture of my prototype: http://data.netconx.net/tom/prototypelowers.jpg I'm hoping that anyone who has done this type of thing before can chime in and let me know the do's and don'ts or any other suggestions as I attempt to do this. Thanks. I haven't posted a picture here before, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. If it is bad, let me know. Tom
