  1. First problem is the low brake fluid indicator is lit on my dash, checked both reservoirs and they are full, now can they be too full and make it light up, second problem is I replaceD the battery with an AGM battery, therefore the battery level light is on, I bought the 2.2k resistor and placed it inline along with the one that is already there, connected it to the acc. terminal on the fuse block............still lit........whats gives?
  2. Once again I am faced with dreaded electrical issues. After successfully upgrading my fuse box (Thanks Skydoc and GeorgeS) I was feeling confident to tear apart the dash and replace all dash light bulbs and solder CMU (in way over my head with the CMU now) anyway I notice some of the bulbs are very dim and burn for a bit when key is first turn on but then flicker out. I have turned the dimmer knob up and down and although it does affect the bulbs that are lit normal it does not affect the dim lit bulbs. I would think if there was a bad ground all the bulbs would be affected, but I am far from knowing electrical issues. On a side note, anyone know of a good soldering person here in WA state? I have CMU out and apart but I am not sure I see any issues. But the battery light jumper wire MOD is not working and the gear indicator will go in and out on occasion. But other than those two issues the digital display works fine. http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac264/bobandlou3/Dash_Bulb.jpg
  3. Hi there all I have been working on restoring a 84 Venture for the last 2 months that was in a garage with 26,000 miles for the last 15 years. I tore it down complete to a motor in a frame and have since down all the updates that I have read on the forums and have a issue at this moment. The headlight bulb stays lit all the time in the dash Evan tho the head light works on high and low and also the tail and brake light stays lit in the LCD Evan tho the lights work. Does anybody have a idea where to go to test or has anybody ran across this issue before. Thanks I will have pictures of everything I have done so far posted when I get a internet connection that does not take 24 hours to upload. Thanks in advance. AL
  4. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beqi-UuiXq8]YouTube - flash arrow.AVI[/ame] Above vid of my design for arrow led turn signal At first I thought I would PM the only other member I know here who has experence in electronic design, Dingy, to see if he was interested in collobrating in my project, as he had stated in another post he was working on simular, then I thought this would likely be of interest to others, especially the final result, so I will provide my progress here. My plan is to replace lighting on my Venture to LEDS. Many places to buy plug and play, but I thought I would like turn arrows, and started experimenting I set my conditions for 1. turn arrows at 4 corners to sequence both front and rear on left or right as switched 2. turn lights also marker lights 3. turn lights also 4 way hazards 4. Minimum parts count/$ 5. also design trim lighting/brake lighing/passing lights from LEDs In my favor I found a source for cheap LEDS, buying 100ea 5mm for about $5 including shipping. For testing I have bought 100 each, Blue 5mm 6000mcd 20-50mA 3.0-3.4fV, Red 5mm 4000mcd 20-50mA 2.0-2.2fV, and Yellow 5000mcd 20-50mA 2.0-2.2fV. All have narrow view angle of 25-30deg and are very bright see straight on, not so much from an angle. Item 5 above is pretty straight forward, so started design of flashing arrow first. PDF is of my circuit so far, I am working on breadboard so changes are easy. Circuit is based on HCF4094 8 stage shift registar driven by high voltage 555 clock called TLC555. The shift registar outputs are driving NPN transistors, but due to high part count I chose transister array CA3083 with 5 each independent transistors capable of 200mA each. I chose my IC's purposly as high voltage (18V) as opposed to TTL(5V) to avoid parts count in voltage control for our 12-14 volt MC systems. Leds are arranged in series arrays. Had wanted to only have 1 major control circuit, but will need two , for left and right. Plan on 1 central control box with multiconductor wire to each corner light. As current to each segment is only 20-30mA this is well within capability of telco 24ga inside wire such as CAT5, and 4 pair wire gives 8 conductors for 8 chevrons, using main 12V already at each corner. Flashing arrow works great so started designing item 3 above. A little experimenting accomplished lighting all LEDS in sequence till all lit then hold, then a timer to output enable of the 4094 will flash all lit LEDs as in 4 way flasher. Then I started working on 2 above, meaning I thought I would need to dim the turn signals and have them fully lit to act as marker lights. I designed a 555 based pulse width modulator which will adjustable dim the LEDs, but at a noticable dimness as opposed to fully lit arrows, I think the LEDs are too dim and can't seem to find a happy medium. This is where I am looking for input. now I am thinking I need to have all LEDs lit full bright for marker lights, and when turning, only turn side will change from full bright to flashing arrow. also considering ordering White 18000mcd leds, but high fV will require changes in array. Weclome all questions, comments, suggestions
  5. Today, I tried to use my cruise control, which normally works well. The set and resume lights lit up and then went out almost immediately. The on light did not come on. When I pushed the black power button again, none of the lights lit up. Every second time I pushed the black button, the same two lights (set and resume) would come on for just a second and then go out. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
  6. My left turn signal stopped working, so I picked up a new bulb, replaced it and it glows all the time and also flashes as it should. But I noticed the right one doesn't glow all the time, only upon flashing. My question is - Which one is correct, should the bulb be lit all the time (when turned on, of course!) as the new one is or should it not be lit?? Second guessing? Thanks folks!
  7. Hi, I'm getting ready to install Yamaha passing lights on my '07 RSV. I've downloaded the instructions for installation and there's a comment regarding tapping into a certain wire depending on jurisdiction regulations. So to all the Ontario RSV owners with passing lights installed, are they lit for both low and high beam, lit only on high, or lit only on low? Thanks
  8. My battery is 3 yrs old approx, and sat through a really cold winter for maybe 4 or 5 months without being started. I thought i'd put a trickle charger on it just to see what would happen. It was completely and totally dead. I let it charge for a couple of hours and just wanted to go see how it was coming along. I flipped the key on and the LED speedo lit up, but then i started hearing some soft popping and the trickle charger was sorta trying to flicker as well, so i turned the key off, but the LED illuminated speedo stayed lit. I disconnected the battery ground, still lit. I disconnected the positive lead and the speedo was stilll lit. It's sitting out in my garage right now I assume.... still lit up. I've accepted the fact that this is a good time to replace the battery, but what the heck is up with that speedo???
  9. I have been a nurse in a school district for 18 years. Every year when it gets to be the week before school starts up again, I am afraid I get a bit down. I know I am spoiled, I get more time off than other nursing jobs. I admit I am spoiled. So tonight I was shopping with Ron and I spotted a little girl in the store, who I know goes to the school where I worked. Her eyes lit up and she ran over to give me a hug. I think it was God's way of making me remember why I work where I do. Silly me. Yama Mama
  10. I'd like to have my tail light(s) come on when I put the key in the ACCES position. Sometimes at night I pull over for whatever reason and don't want to keep my headlights and everything else on but want to have some lighting on. Most of my other bikes had a "PARK" position where the taillight would be lit. How can I accomplish this without hacking up too many wires? I'm thinking that I would have to relay off the radio as it is the only thing (I think) that is powered up in the ACCES position. What I don't know is what negative affects this could have once the bike is running.
  11. Ok, have 2 problems. Bike is a '93 VR. First problem:Radio channel display flashed rapidly and lost sound. Now no channel display or sound. The little red light that shows power on is lit, but nothing coming out of unit. Have had problems with radio losing sound with channel display remaining lit showing station that I was listening to, then will come back on and scare the you know what out of me. It will remain "off" for a few minutes, or it might be 2 or 3 days before it comes back on, or anywhere in between. Just a "wild a-- guess", did the radio give up the ghost or what??? Second problem: The bike has the wrap around rear lights. The lights are in a 2 bulb assembly and 1 of the assemblies keeps burning both bulbs out in less than an hour after replacing the bulbs, which btw is a pain in the you know what. A side note, if you have the same set-up, you need to buy at least twice the amount of bulbs needed because you will end up breaking probably 2 or 3 of them. I want to be able to keep these lights lit because it gives the bike an unbalanced look, and I am unbalanced enough already! :bang head: Any ideas?? Thanks Don H.
