  1. it's the bar out in defiance on the katy trail. let me know will all ride out there some saturday and get a soda . bill
  2. don , i hang out at a biker bar once in awhile. a good biker bar. and as you said most harleys are pretty docile. we get a good show once in awhile out there. some of them harleys do impress me. i saw a guy get sideways on one, one time, on a second gear shift. there are some that are really built. you can tell by the sound. some of the built harley really sound healthy. i live in harley country. surrounded by old school harley dealers.that know how to put them together. me and allanh stop at that bar once in awhile. it's quite a car and motorcycle show.
  3. i raced 4 harleys at one time two up on my rstd, and three of them were two up. we were just coming on the highway. went by them like they were parked. would you believe the last guy gave me the finger. sore loser. mine had a dyna 3000, k&ns, and baron bag slashers. raced two harleys heads up at a stoplight the other night on my wing. one was probably stock the other one sounded bad. the light changed and i went back to my childhood and thought what the heck. had about 30 bikes on the hot one when i went to third.and quit. he finally caught me and went by in all his glory reving his engine and making all kinds of noise. he would have never caught me. i was'nt power shifting and did'nt get close to red line .no need to. :rotf:
  4. don't tell me it's to fast for you. oh i know what it is, no where to strap on the heineken.:rotf:
  5. hey orrin, how would you like to meet in iowa for lunch on an upcoming saturday, maybe ottumwa. i need to ride up to iowa to color it in on my map. was going to do it last sat. but woke up to rain. maybe we could draw a few more and have a nice meet and eat. i may be able to bring a few from this area. let me know.it would have to be a saturday. bill :clap2:
  6. sure did'nt mean to open a can of worms with this thread. the helmet controversy is just about like the oil controversy or politics and religon. no win situation. in my first thread i basically was saying if your going to wear a helmet wear a good one. seat belts save lives , helmets save lives there just ain't no arguing about it. if you anti government people want to defy the laws, go shoot your neighbor if you don't like him. how can the government possibly pass that bum legislation against that. as imperfect as our goverment may be, it's still protecting me in the very best country in the world to live in. if i get to where i don't like it, i'll move to china and enjoy some of the real freedoms they have to offer. nuff said. snarley bill
  7. don't think i said what type of helmet he was wearing. i was making a totally different point from my personal observations. this is major harley country i would guess probably 75 percent of all the bikes in my area are harleys ,and most of the harley riders in my area are wanna be bikers and think ya got to be a bad ass to ride one. i know some good harley riders. i've had 4 harleys and would buy another one if they had something to offer that i like. it's the weekend warriors that ruin it for all the good harley riders.i rode harleys in the early sixties and belonged to a motorcycle gang. so i know all about the wannabes. i was also anti helmet. good thing missouri passed the helmet law cuz my wife would probably be dead or a vegetable now. we hit some gravel and she hit her head on the pavement, tore her shoes off, and tore the back out of her ski jacket. caved the back of her helmet in. i know so many anti helmet people that have been there done that and swear by helmets now. i care about my wifes well being and i care about mine because i owe it to her to be there for her and not in a box. maineac, i think your looking for an argument and as far as i'm concerned you just don't have one. i've been around many a block on all kinds of bikes, and had to learn alot the hard way. snarley bill
  8. bought a brand new 0 miles, swingarm, rear rotor, rear caliper with pads, complete rearend, dunlop rear tire and wheel, as a complete assembly off a new 2008 gold wing that was triked. i got it all for $227.50 plus $68.00 shipping. the dealer i bought my wing from trikes wings and must have a pile of them the buy now was $300.00. i figure i got close to $3,000.00 worth of goodies. they have them on there all the time if anyone with a wing wants one. the wheel and tire mounted and balanced is worth way more than that. bill
  9. a harley rider swerved to miss a deer and went down and hit his head on the pavement, and was pronounced dead on the spot. he was 33 years old. what really bothers me is a very large margin of the harley riders around here and i would guess at least 80 percent wear those crappy non dot approved skid lids. thats like wearing safety glasses with no lenses, and they put their wife or girl freind on the back with the same crappy helmet. not just picking on harley riders cuz i'm sure there are some metric riders that wear them. if you gotta wear a helmet wear a good one. this happened not to far from where i live and kind of hits home. thought about it all the way home from work this morning on my scooter. i feel bad for him and his family. bill
  10. if you enjoy your radio leave the stock ones on there. i had loud pipes on mine and they sounded great. the noise sucks. gets awful old after awhile. bill
  11. glad she is doing okay. be a good nurse, and like eck said wash them hands. just said a prayer for her. bill
  12. steve thats great news. do what the doctor says and take it easy. bill
  13. got the crotch rocket covered with my kaw zx 14. see you in eureka springs. bill
  14. any where between the lines with the bike standing up straight is fine. should be about half way between the lines when the engine is cold and a couple of minutes after you run it, and shut it off. the oil will expand when it gets hot and read slightly higher. bill
  15. yep, i will ride my scoot to work tonight then heading out for a scooter meet in portland indiana at 8am. going to promote a cushman scooter with a vangaurd v-twin, i built with a custom built 4 speed billet aluminum transmission.
  16. don't know if you have ever ridden a new goldwing but they have linked brakes.heres how they work. the rear master cyl. works the rear caliper and two pistons in the left front caliper. the front master cyl. operates the right front caliper and the other of the three pistons in the left caliper. i think they do this so you can't overbrake the front brakes with your foot in a panic stop. so far i like the set up. you don't have to use alot of foot pressure to stop. it is a well thought out system. the rear brake also operates the anti dive valve on the left front fork. the bike stops perfectly level. i would be a little leary of the rear brake working both front calipers 100%. may get tricky on gravel or slick pavement.
  17. don't worry about it it's alot cooler than the motor in your car. bill:)
  18. la went through st.louis mo. about 4:30 this afternoon. i was sound asleep but he talked to my wife for awhile. said he wanted to make springfield by dark. sure wish my wife would have woke me up. bill

  23. hey brad in my book your a super moderator. :clap2:
  24. one thing i forgot to say is , i did'nt get rid of my rstd cuz i did'nt like it. it had it's faults but so do all bikes. when it went down the street a feeling of dread came over me for a minute cuz it was gone for good. i still miss it. just had to let it go before i dumped it. could'nt handle it at low speeds anymore. no fault of the bike. the wing sits a little lower and gives me a few more years of riding a big bike. will never own a trike, just not my bag. wanted people to understand, i still think the venture is one of the nicest looking and best bikes on the road. bill
  25. here's how i look at it. i am very proud to be a member of venture riders.org. i love the people, the way the site is set up. the great meets, the commeraderie, etc. thats why i had the decal made for my wing windshield and i'm proud to have it on there. how many have them on there ventures? joined a wing site just for the tech info. in fact thats the only threads i read over there. just don't have the same kind of closeness of members and alot of animosity, and arguing. not trying to drag people away from their ventures but would like to at least see a tech column for wings. may work may not.i still have two yamahas and plan on having them for a long time. when they come out with the new vmax powered ventures i may be interested in one. i doubt it cus i'm beginning to realize i'm not a kid anymore and the big bikes are starting to feel alot heavier than they once did. this wing will probably be my last big bike. would 'nt ever think about suggesting changing the name of the site to cover all brands. venturerider.org has a special ring to it and has a special meaning to me. don't think there is a web site out there that comes close. just my 2 cents. bill
