  1. brad, that is one fine looking ride. you did good. let the chroming begin. hope to see you and lonna and that bike in eureka springs. bill
  2. i loved my venturized rstd. but just could'nt handle it at low speeds anymore. i got a v-star 1300 and love it. easy to ride and excellent handling, just not enough luxury for the long haul. got the goldwing bug, and bought one. at first i thought i made a big mistake due to the lack of leg room. me and the wing had a little talk on a 300 mile solo run one morning and kind of came to an agreement. got to say the wing is the ultimate riding machine. my wife says it also. don't think there is a bike out there that comes close. not knocking ventures cuz i am a true blue yammer man.i still have two, but the wing sets the standard for touring bikes. not trying to stir the pot just giving my honest opinion. before you jump in the middle of my stuff, i will always be a venture rider member and have even put a venturerider.org decal on my wing windshield, had it made special. so don't give ole snarley bill no crap. since there are so many wing riders on this site maybe we could get a listing in the forums for wingriders. what do you think, don? bill :clap2:
  3. sure wish i had a eureka springs web site. i'm jealous. just kidding. great job on the website. really neat idea. not sure yet whether i can make it there or not. can only do so many meets a year, and being into quarter horses, i have to do some things with my wife in that area. just not enough days in the year.lol if i was rich i would be dangerous. i could retire again. bill:2133:
  4. darn that means i got to go back for the rest of it. lol
  5. don't think there are any minor changes of direction on the dragon. when you ride it, it involves alot of concentration and does'nt seem like there are that many curves, but there are that many real good curves. when you get to the end there is a area where you can rest up before you start back, unless you keep going wherever it goes. if you just ride it normal it's not a bad ride.it's when your with others and it gets competitive that it gets hairy. there are lots of good roads that are more dangerous than the dragon down there cuz the sweepers will allow you to ride alot faster. if your a good ,sensible rider you will enjoy it. bill
  6. here's the way my favorite traffic light works in mo. if your front wheels cross the white line into the intersection after the light turns red you get your picture taken. i have sat there and watched the timing out of curiosity.it will not take your picture if you are passed the white line when it turns red. the light has to be red before it will trigger the camera. no excuses it gives you every break. i love to see that camera flashing. all most been hit several times at that intersection . now people actually are beginning to stop for the light. they found out how to use their brakes.
  7. your right i don't agree. the dragon is one of those things in this country that has become a world renound special place. kind of like route 66. i think it should be handled just like they are doing it. the police patrol it well. most people follow the rules and enjoy it. there are always going to be those that abuse a privelage. i would guess the dragon draws alot of revenue to north carolina, tennesee, and georgia ,from people visiting to ride it from here and abroad. i say leave it be the way it is. many thousands enjoy it every year. the biggest traffic problem on the dragon is big trucks getting jambed in the curves and shutting it down. looked to me like everyone that travels it has no problem with speed other than that. we followed some locals in cars at one time and could'nt stay with them. bill:2133:
  8. i agree also, have read posts in the past about steves grills and he obviously is a stand up guy. not to mention seems like he has helped a few guys out at the dragon meet who had other problems with their bikes. how did he get rung in on this thread anyaway. bill
  9. i think the biggest danger of the dragon is the blind curves and people crossing the centerline. this basically boils down to inexperience. many thousands ride it every day, there are bound to be mishaps. most of the people were pretty sensible when i rode it. we had a great time and it was quite an experience.the last time i rode it there was so much traffic, that no one could go extremely fast. i guess in the off season is when alot of the really skilled riders do their thing. check out the dragon website for more info.
  10. need to burn a weeks vacation in the first part of august. just need some time off. any one want to put together a meet and eat in the missouri area? be glad to help out. would have one in st. charles but just had one. bill
  11. i've ridden the dragon. but not the ones you mentioned. to me what makes a road with twisties rough is how fast you can go and how experienced you are. if you ride the dragon or any twisty road at a normal pace it's a piece of cake. if you push your riding ability to the limit than they all become a challenge and require total concentration.the tighter the twisties the less it hurts when you hit the pavement.i would rather go down doing 35 mph in a 10 mph curve then go down at 135mph in a sweeper. when i rode the dragon on my royal star i was close to the edge a couple of times with my wife on the rear and was'nt really going that fast. just did'nt have enough ground clearance to go faster. with my crotch rocket i could have probably gone twice as fast if the traffic was'nt so heavy. even at that the total concentration drained me after i went both ways. 636 curves in 22 miles. i have ridden twistier roads but the dragon sets the standard. it's all the hype that goes with it that makes it a must do. bill
  12. not to much to complain about in mo.. road work is our biggest pain. uneven pavement is the worst. like geting caught in a railroad track on an angle. bill
  13. hey orrin congradulations. now thats timing. :clap2:
  14. well i was on a long ride with wtho yesterday, and shirtz&things called again and missed me. this phone tag is getting to be something. did have a great ride with wayne, and got to see a section of the actual berlin wall in fulton, mo.. very interesting. it was at the winston churchhill memorial . i rode about 270 miles. great weather great guy to ride with. had a good time.
  15. just think, if you get lost ,you can find yourself.
  16. darn michael your sharper than me. i saw the 1:30 but missed the am. think it was supposed to be 10:30 am. bill
  17. i know what you mean. i have a closet full and no time to wear them. glad your coming. bill
  18. speaking of deer i went up hwy 79 this morning, along the flood plane and must have seen several hundred deer in about 5 miles. there were herds of up to 20 or 30 in the fields along the road. they had to shut down one of our interbelts for a couple of days cuz the deer were on the hwy. river is starting to go down now and roads are beginning to open. we have animals running all over the area. bill
  19. we are going to make the barbeque run again, allanh needs another salad fix. it's been almost a year of eating small salads at home. roadkill, aka "jay" has set up a date at cycle gadgets on saturday at 10:30 am. i will let him fill you in on the details, since he got it together. talked to wayne this morning aka "witho" and he has a room he would be willing to share. got all kinds of neat things planned. thanks to buddy for all the help with the accomodations. and i think he may have some other surprises. anyone wanting to contribute a little doodad of some sort for the door prize drawing, is more than welcome to do that, although it is not necessary. if you do, make it small ,and something for the gals would be great. i went on a small spree at our new harbor freight the other day and picked up a few neat gadgets ,and linda is working on some junk for the gals. if la comes this year, and i think he will, we are going to get him to do the ferry ride this year so bring helmets cuz we will be riding in missouri with a helmet law. thats the latest update. i'm going to give the tshirts one more try this week , kind of like cindys idea. if i can't get something going. we will all have extra money for an extra meal at that great buffet next to the motel. cindy, you and dale better get your butts down there. it sure would 'nt be the same with out you, and we need a roving photographer. i know dales mad cuz i let the bike go with his pipes. really getting excited and it's coming up fast. bill :welcome1:see you there.
  20. what a neat idea. why did'nt i think of that. does this mean that you and the second in command are coming?. i hope so. bill
  21. enjoy the trike, seems to be a goldwing movement going on here. must be rubbing off. buddy and orrin started it, and it's snowballing.
  22. having a problem coming up with t-shirts for eureka springs. can't seem to get a comunication going with shirtz&things after a little phone tag i have emailed them. here is the problem. as recommended by allanh. i want to set it up where each member that wants them ,can order there size directly off their web site. this way i don't have to mess with shipping and i don't want to collect peoples money to pay for them. i am not wanting to have any kind of registration fee for this meet. i tried our only local t-shirt and graffics dealer but they have no website. if i can't get something going with shirtzn things this week i am going to give up on the t-shirt idea. i haven't got a design yet and to be honest i don't have a clue what i am doing when it comes to designing t-shirts. my sister is a profesional artist but has had some health problems so i don't want to burden her. if someone else wants to tackle the t-shirts and patches that knows what they are doing, have at it. i am in the process of getting a bunch of door prizes together for the guys and gals for the drawing. other than the t-shirt problem everything is coming together for a great meet and looks like we will have a good turnout. hope we have the weather we had last year. see you all there. bill
  23. your right lewis that is a fine looking group. i sure wish i could have been there. we have one group of good people on this site. wish i could do more for people on this site. i love them all. bill
  24. could this be another convert. sounds like a nice one yammer. go for it.
  25. don you are exactly right on. it 's not a political issue both parties have made all kinds of promises. on all issues with no results all they do is bicker sling dirt and call names with no results. i've watched this since the 50's and it's been down hill with the wind with every administration. finger pointing is'nt going to fix this. all americans on both sides and in between need to rally together to fix this problem and i just don't see them getting past their greed to do this. when i was a kid people stood by their country and worked together when the going got tough. now it's party, and get all you can while the gettins good. just don't see any possible fix. it's a whole new mind set now. the fast lane just got to fast. bill
