    When I sold my RSV it had 103,214 miles on it and never had a maintenance issue--just normal p.m. --> change oil and tires and keep on rollin'. I would not have hesitated to take it on a long trip.

    Our home is total electric, and it can get cold in north Georgia -11 degrees yesterday morning. (I used 173 kWhr of electricity between Friday morning and this morning.) The house has a wood-burning fire place, but I installed a LP ventless gas log set because I don't like messing with the ashes and hauling wood into the house. The log set is fueled with 40-pound LP bottles and will heat 2000 sq ft of our main floor. I also have on standby a 25k btu LP venless heater fitted with a LP regulator for use with portable bottles. I don't like to be cold.

    My wife and I have ridden the BRP every year beginning 2001 and have stayed at the three lodges in question. Our favorite is Bluffs Lodge at Doughton Park; we now stay 3-4 nights there to soak up the solitude (no phone or television in the rooms), and thre are only a small number of guests. We stayed at the Peaks of Otter our first year on the parkway and really enjoyed it. One of these days we will get back there--just can't get passed Bluffs Lodge. Earlier this year we stayed at the Mt. Pisgah Inn for the first time and doubt we will spend another night there--too many people and the room walls are thin. Again, personal preference. Howver, the restaraunt is good and we always stop there to eat when riding by.

    Been at no. 4 a couple of times... But not recently... The weekend before the one just past, I went flying for the first time in 2 years. Cessna 172, four people on board, flight instructor in the right seat. Flight instructor in the rear seat behind me (no dummies on this flight) and wife in the other rear seat. Cross country flight for lunch. Lots of fun!

    For warm/hot weather I bought the Joe Rocket Phoenix gear--jacket, pants, gloves--the first year they were available, 2001. I lived in NE FL until August 2007. The Joe Rocket gear is great. Hot is hot, but the air flows well through the fabric. I retired the Joe Rocket gear at the end of this summer and replaced it with some mesh fabric gear from Olympia (bought on sale). I have a Frog Togg rain suit to go over the mesh gear. When the weather is cool/cold I wear a First Gear Kilamanjaro 3/4 jacket, First Gear HT overpant, and gloves to fit the temperature. The First Gear apparel is waterproof as are my cold temp riding gloves. My boots for all seasons are Sidi On-roads, 12" high, and they are waterproof. (Riding in the rain is bad enough without getting clothes wet while doing it.) The First Gear suit, boots, and mid-weight gloves recently were tested in a low-speed crash. I could not find any impact/slide damage. Only the helmet needed to be replaced. Leather may look cool, but it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. And it is not (generally) waterproof. I think all the major motorcycle apparel manufactures make good riding gear; just choose what fits you best and has the features you like.

    Hmmm, a KLR tire is a bit lighter than the tires for the RSV. Me thinks there would be more than just "pushing" the tire bead over the rims of our Ventures.

    No thanks.... "the helmet will be pneumatically attached." If I have an unplanned get off, I prefer the helmet to come with the rest of my body.
