  1. Eck, Pat and I will have to be there with our GW trike so your ride won't feel surrounded by all those. . . uh, other bikes.
  2. When I sold my RSV it had 103,214 miles on it and never had a maintenance issue--just normal p.m. --> change oil and tires and keep on rollin'. I would not have hesitated to take it on a long trip.
  3. Yeppers! 280 miles today.
  4. May I suggest you sneak in to your mangement's office and steal their bottle of hooch and the dice they are using to assign territory?
  5. VP-26, Brunswick, ME, 77-79; NRL FLT SUP DET, Pax River, MD, 79-82; VP-30, Jax, FL, 82-89. This was after I got smart enough to stop being a fleet sailor!
  6. Good deal, Jeff! The key to fast healing is to NOT do too much; follow doctor's instructions.
  7. Our home is total electric, and it can get cold in north Georgia -11 degrees yesterday morning. (I used 173 kWhr of electricity between Friday morning and this morning.) The house has a wood-burning fire place, but I installed a LP ventless gas log set because I don't like messing with the ashes and hauling wood into the house. The log set is fueled with 40-pound LP bottles and will heat 2000 sq ft of our main floor. I also have on standby a 25k btu LP venless heater fitted with a LP regulator for use with portable bottles. I don't like to be cold.
  8. My wife and I have ridden the BRP every year beginning 2001 and have stayed at the three lodges in question. Our favorite is Bluffs Lodge at Doughton Park; we now stay 3-4 nights there to soak up the solitude (no phone or television in the rooms), and thre are only a small number of guests. We stayed at the Peaks of Otter our first year on the parkway and really enjoyed it. One of these days we will get back there--just can't get passed Bluffs Lodge. Earlier this year we stayed at the Mt. Pisgah Inn for the first time and doubt we will spend another night there--too many people and the room walls are thin. Again, personal preference. Howver, the restaraunt is good and we always stop there to eat when riding by.
  9. 13. Let Wal-Mart bail out Wall Street Love it or hate it, it is obvious Wal-Mart knows how to generate profit, unlike our financial industry.
  10. Thanks, Jack! I'm looking; if Marietta needs an avionics tech or tech writer for avionics, I can submit a great resume.
  11. Been at no. 4 a couple of times... But not recently... The weekend before the one just past, I went flying for the first time in 2 years. Cessna 172, four people on board, flight instructor in the right seat. Flight instructor in the rear seat behind me (no dummies on this flight) and wife in the other rear seat. Cross country flight for lunch. Lots of fun!
  12. For warm/hot weather I bought the Joe Rocket Phoenix gear--jacket, pants, gloves--the first year they were available, 2001. I lived in NE FL until August 2007. The Joe Rocket gear is great. Hot is hot, but the air flows well through the fabric. I retired the Joe Rocket gear at the end of this summer and replaced it with some mesh fabric gear from Olympia (bought on sale). I have a Frog Togg rain suit to go over the mesh gear. When the weather is cool/cold I wear a First Gear Kilamanjaro 3/4 jacket, First Gear HT overpant, and gloves to fit the temperature. The First Gear apparel is waterproof as are my cold temp riding gloves. My boots for all seasons are Sidi On-roads, 12" high, and they are waterproof. (Riding in the rain is bad enough without getting clothes wet while doing it.) The First Gear suit, boots, and mid-weight gloves recently were tested in a low-speed crash. I could not find any impact/slide damage. Only the helmet needed to be replaced. Leather may look cool, but it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. And it is not (generally) waterproof. I think all the major motorcycle apparel manufactures make good riding gear; just choose what fits you best and has the features you like.
  13. Hmmm, a KLR tire is a bit lighter than the tires for the RSV. Me thinks there would be more than just "pushing" the tire bead over the rims of our Ventures.
  14. Nope! We get old because we stop doing things and become veggies.
  15. No thanks.... "the helmet will be pneumatically attached." If I have an unplanned get off, I prefer the helmet to come with the rest of my body.
  16. Yep, trash. The insurance company totaled it (thank you!) and we settled on the trike this afternoon. About an hour later the settlement $$ bought a new '08 GW Motortrike, pearl white. :mo money:Tomorrow, Brother-n-law is riding it home for me. (wrist is still wrapped up) And I thought it fitting to name it "Albino Rhino II"
  17. Happy to hear you are unscathed! Until someone comes up with a crystal ball that works, I'll keep wearing my gear.
  18. Hi, Bill: I missed this yesterday. Yes, by all means you (anyone) may repost this for educational purposes--my reason for posting my experience.
  19. Bought a small piece of black felt in the crafts department at Wal-Mart and a package of heavy duty hair braid bands. Cut the black felt to fit over the cap with enough overage to have a short skirt at the tank then use a hair band to keep it in place.
  20. Hi Todd! Yeah, considering the could have beens, I got off light: broken wrist and a broken rib. And yes, the trike is trashed--probably totaled--about $24.5k estimated repair cost, but it can be replaced. (There is a new--11 miles--'08 white GW trike on the showroom floor.) And I still have the MM Venture, which if I can't sell will become my commuter bike. We were living in Jasper, but bought a house in Cherokee County last year. Thanks for the good wishes.

  22. From my post you can probably imagine that I recommend more than chaps, but that's you decision. The trike part of the bike is messed up pretty good: axel out of alignment ~20-30 degrees, which means attaching structural componets are bent. Probably a new trike kit complete. If the bike's frame isn't bent, I'll get the this trike back. If the frame is bent, I'm sure it will be totaled (hidden damage and all that...) and I'll buy another trike.
