  1. Another problem with these bikes is it will be a long time waiting for the warranty to expire!
  2. Don't forget to hit the rev limiter. I was under reving until I went ahead and did it. Mine hits about 42 in 1st and 65 in 2nd. You'll get the sound of the engine at a proper power rpm and the rev limiter will stop you way before damage can be done. Once you get the sound just stay a little under that Jerry
  3. I do mine with the AIS valve un bolted but the hoses still attached. Found it easier to get my tools and hands in for the upper bolt. Jerry
  4. With my height I like the lowered front better. Currently down ½ inch. Was 1 inch but I think the high speed tracking is better for me with half that. Jerry
  5. I had wanted to upgrade. I have been running XP since it first came out but Vista scared me so we just got an IMac. I work on Bill Gates plane sometimes but I got tired of paying for it buying all that software and putting up with the trouble. Jerry
  6. I added it to my watch list. If the sells well I think I just found Alfred E. Newman in my bread box.
  7. So far I haven’t tried air in the forks. I did find it could be important in the back. The lack of air I think is the reason I dropped it the first time with only 7 miles on the clock. No air is like to opposite of leveling links. Most of us know how raising the back with the links improves low speed handling. With no air and a load like the first time I had a passenger the back sags and it gets sluggish at low speeds, thus my first drop. I now have it down a ½ inch in the front and no air in the back for riding solo. With no air I get a little settle with my weight on it and an easier reach to the ground but have never bottomed it. Add a little settle and the ½ inch the front and it is still light enough slow and tracks good at high speed, for my taste anyway. With a passenger and light bags I have been running 25 to 35 pounds in the back. Just enough so I get a little settle when the passenger gets on but not enough to bottom. With the front stock height and leveling links I found air in the back could really vary the handling. Normally I ran no air but with 25 or 30 pounds it was very light at low speeds. I didn’t care for the high speed tracking but it could really rip into a corner. A second area to watch the pressure that I don’t see mentioned much is the back tire. The first coupe of times I had a passenger I couldn’t get the thing to stay on any line through a corner. Took me a bit to figure out it was the tire flexing. Set the pressure up for a passenger and no problem. Just the other day I tried a few extra pounds with a passenger then accidentally left it up and headed off to work. Had a chance to survive discovering the back didn’t have as much traction with too much pressure for one up. I locked it up a slid right through a red light. Luckily the cages with the green turn light saw me coming. Also accidentally did a burn out leaving one light and even had trouble getting it to hook up. That was pretty cool but I let some air out before heading home for sure. Jerry
  8. I worried about that a lot before deciding on the Venture. I figured I would never try the local convenience store. After getting used to it and making a couple of adjustment for my height it turned out to be no trouble. I understand the Wing and even more so the LT Beamer tend to be top heavy and you need to pay attention at low speeds. This is all from reading and asking, I don’t have any experience myself. Running with commuting traffic through town is no problem. It doesn’t feel top heavy one up and if there is a slope down into a parking slot I just make sure to back in. Jerry
  9. There was talk here before that the exhaust doesn’t drag as easy if you take the front down some too. Jerry
  10. I am a member of the Tucson chapter (and ride with Alan). I am a member this year because Yamaha paid for it. Next year I'm not so sure I'll re up. They will let anyone with any bike join up. Not just Star and not just Yamaha even. You can ride up to three times with the group while deciding to join or not. I would advise anyone even remotely interested in group rides and close enough to a chapter give it a try. It is a friendly bunch and we usually ride a couple of times a month. They have sure helped me get out and get the mileage up. I have had no issues with what I decide to wear on my vest but it is a family group (like this one) and I haven’t seen any real crude patches. My biggest problem with the group is they meet on the other side of town in the early evening. It takes a long time to get across town during our version of rush hour. The group riding, that always involves food somewhere, for the most part has been fun and I have been shown some new roads (and restaurants) I never realized existed. There is an occasional issue with someone riding too close and I am afraid if someone has to swerve around something they will take down a bunch of bikes. Jerry
  11. I always thought this was cute. Jerry http://www.wagstrailers.com/pet_trailer.asp
  12. I did think the pepper spray was a bit rude but he was having trouble getting his full attention. May have been a good thing his wife wasn’t with him. From the couple of times he mentioned her I bet she uses pepper spray for breath fresher.
  13. Ran across this. Jerry http://www.break.com/index/drunk-redneck-lawnmower-dui.html
  14. Also, don't wave at scooters. Just blow them a kiss.
  15. Here is a story on a local wreck. This guy isn't getting away but it is a rough way to start his adult years. Jerry Tucson Region Driver, 18, jailed in S. Side fatality By Dale Quinn Arizona Daily Star Tucson, Arizona Published: 10.23.2007 An 18-year-old man was arrested after he slammed into a motorcycle Sunday morning and killed the rider, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Emillio James Martinez, of the 4300 block of East Ocotillo Desert Trail, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, criminal damage, a marijuana violation and a drug paraphernalia violation, according to jail records. He was booked Sunday afternoon after his release from the hospital. Martinez suffered minor injuries in the collision, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Martinez was speeding eastbound on East Valencia Road about 4:15 a.m. in a Honda sport utility vehicle when he rear-ended a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 53-year-old man near South Alvernon Way, the release said. The man — whose name has not been released because his relatives haven't been notified — was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol, drugs and speed played a part in the vehicular homicide, according to the release.
  16. A bunch of posts here and a lot to think about. There is a lot more out on the net giving both the pro and con side. I have been on the fence for a while about getting one. The two big points seem to be: 1. It gets you noticed. 2. It could cause a challenged driver to do something dumb. There have been a couple of post saying things like “there is no way someone could confuse the modulator for......” I think they are not giving the driving challenged enough much credit. There are people out there that are very capable of doing something unimaginably stupid. Here it is now the time the “Snowbirds” flock into the area for the winter. This is a major population increase with too many of them past their prime of being good drivers but can be confused. Will they see me or will I confuse them? I’m still on the fence but perhaps some of you can say a prayer for those of us in the sun belt. Jerry
  17. I got mine from Iron City Cycles. http://www.ironcitycycles.com/index.php Look up part number 31-9920. Jerry
  18. Those things are way cool. I love to listen to the big ones fire, more of a whoosh then a bang.
  19. There is a thread going on now. Check out: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14762 By the way, there is a rule here that you need to post pictures. I personally would love to see one of a side car on a Venture. Jerry
  20. Wow, that’s a nice airborne. I'd have a Cushman if they were a bit cheaper. Would be fun to putt to the store on. So far the closest I have gotten is a later frame doing garden duty. Jerry
  21. I am in complete disagreement about not having a real life. I too check the posts before going to work, when I get home and through the evening. To me this is really living so in reality we do have a life. Jerry
  22. I have been using Muriatic acid mixed down with water. It will eat the rust and not touch the solid metal. Usually I eye ball 10 to 20 percent acid. After rinse with lots of water. The hard part is getting it dried out before surface rusting. If there is gas varnish in the tank I use Lye or Lye based drain cleaner first. The lye will remove any organic matter, the acid won’t touch it so also can’t get to any rust under varnish. Jerry
  23. I understand this is happening more often. Dogs with an attitude towards rice burners.
  24. I've got the Diamond R too. Like some people here I had a bit of trouble getting is adjusted back far enough. Also there are two screws that lock the height adjustment that kept coming loose. I replaced those with stainless bolts from the local hardware store and used a bit of locket. Now I wouldn’t trade it for another. It is a good match to the pillow upholstery and sure helps my back. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV%20Overstuffed%20Backrest Jerry
