I would like to hear on this too. Seems like good idea. Less weight, less moving parts, tracks the same narrow path. Don't let not knowing (yet) what to do when it's not hooked up stop you. A trailer is normally used hooked up anyway. I have surfed sites where people have made them. I have been watching for a back wheel and back end of some sort of light motorcycle thinking of making one but it is way down on my long project list. Still having trouble picturing the bike half of the hitch on a Venture. Don't know if the torque of holding the trailer up would be trouble. Jerry

Are you referring to the picture of the biker gang on the three wheelers? Jerry

I guess it's a touring trike with lots of room for the extras.

I occasionally see a post here wondering if something is a motorcycle. Going by my state regulations three wheels is a motorcycle so I guess this must be one. Jerry

Just as a guess is the CB radio turned on? Mine did that on the way home after I bought it. The CB was on and occasonally would break squelch. Took me a bit to figure it out. Jerry

George I personally don't like acronyms, in this case if you are not sure the IC talked about is Intercom. For my 07 it is talked about starting on page 4-6 of the owners manual. Everything is working normal you are just hearing the intercom when talking and not pressing the CB push to talk switch. This system also can help you hear extra noises if turned up enough. Just push the SELECT button on the audio control head until you see IC. Use the up/down arrows to set it to the desired level. If my wife is not with me I always put it right down to 0. When she is along and we are using the intercom I set it to what works best for us at 15. Any more then that I can hear the damned chirp from the motor more. Jerry

Well, to be truthful there is the usual issue with the first gen owners here!

After reading the long older thread with all the pros and cons I decided to go for one. I got a SDC Diamond Star unit. Even got it at a good price used on E Bay. Each time you start the bike (in day light) it's on. I can turn it off just by flipping the headlight switch to the other beam and back quickly. Can also pick one of two flash rates blipping the horn twice. If it's off and you honk the horn it goes back to flashing for a short time. There is also something about if you have the headlight burn out it will switch power to the other beam immediately. Seemed like a nice bunch of features. The sun is still low when I head off to work. I think it would be distracting possibly turning on and off in the long shadows so I turn it off in the morning and it's easy enough to do. So far I have had 4 ignorant drivers pull to the side and let me by. That is sort of fun but two have them were also too ignorant to use turn signals and it's a bit of a worry not knowing what they are doing. Overall I like it, if it ever quit I'd get another. Jerry

MPG after changes!
AZSpyder replied to spyderhead's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My manual on a 07 calls for a plug change every 8,000 miles, inspect at 12,000. At the 8,000 point they looked just about new but I changed them anyway just to stay on Yamahas maintenance schedule. I don't know if I will do the same at 16,000. Jerry -
Sometimes i miss trying to find different settings. The Vista release was what finally pushed me to a Mac. Now using the computer is boring, it just works. Jerry

Someone set me the first video I posted. I did a U Tube serach for "Driving in India" and found [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VEELbpPSTzA]this one too[/ame]. There are a few more including a driving edict series. From what I can tell with no lane markings you just go where you fit. When there is no hard separation between opposing traffic the center stripe is just a suggestion. It seems to work but I don't know if you could get a Venture out of second. Jerry

WANT TO TALK TO ANOTHER BIKE w/o AUDIO

I have seen a system, Chatterbox at a local bike shop. Never used one but maybe it would work for you. Jerry -
WANT TO TALK TO ANOTHER BIKE w/o AUDIO

If you can keep the tension right I don't know why a couple of tin cans and some string wouldn't work. -
Judging from what I have seen so far many of the modifications we make to the bikes are possibly illegal on the federal level. In my area there are also the mods that are illegal on the local level, like no mufflers, that seem to be ignored by the police....so far. There was an interesting link to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation posted by Steve (Bummer) in another thread. Also the federal laws. Going by MRF many of the more common modifications such as Vmax rear end, plugging the AIS, muffler change or modification, jet changes, air filter/air box changes, rev limiter changes, cam etc. assuming not using something that has been certified for the bike, could be trouble. At this time I assume the only thing we could remotely see are violations for exhaust changes. They would be easier to tell then final drive gears changes or jet work. Is it likely? Not from what I see of the uncorked Harley's in Tucson. I still wouldn't be surprised if one day there is a crack down here but no sign yet. If someone with power gets fed up here it could even swing the other way and go 100% compliance. How about in other areas? Has anyone run into examples of enforcement? Anyone have a good guess as to what the future may bring? Jerry

I bet when that new it would have been pretty neat, and maybe even safe. Jerry

That is a false rumor, it seems to be the other way most, but not all of the time. Now I don't have what the average citizen would call loud pipes and it does work in my case. As far as bikes with the loud pipes some riders arn't easy to tell but most of the ones you can seem to be well endowed women.
-
Some of the people here are something else. Starting to stabilize into an interesting discussion on regulations and this comes up. Start of saying enough on the animosity then say most riders with loud pipes also litter the country! Incredible! If you don't have anything to say that involves at least a 2nd graders logic level please go start trouble some where else.

This just doesn't sound right, or just part is posted. Do you have a full copy of the law? The version I am aware of only covers 1983 and newer so the "any exhaust" part would be wrong. 2 of my 3 bikes aren't effected. I wonder if the first year Ventures have this certification. The way things are now I don't think anyone needs to worry about this unless they are importing a bike. This was one of a couple trouble spots when I had the idea to look into importing a shipping container full of Posties from Australia. Also the version I read doesn't give the EPA any teeth and leaves the regulation to each state. Arizona's noise level is what is "prudent" that just means if you piss off a cop you could be looking for the stock exhaust. I know someone in Colorado that had a cop test his exhaust with a night stick. It didn't hit any baffles and he went looking for a new muffler. As far as having exhaust loud enough to have to wear ear plugs mentioned in an early post (I know a few with the Star Touring bunch), I just can't understand that mod. Jerry

2nd hand Harley Road Kings. No re jet and the Harley guys just about give them away. Jerry

The bottom line to this thread is slightly louder pipes are heard or can't you read! It worked for me yet you think it is stupid for even saying it out loud. See if you can hear this, IT WORKS FOR ME and keep your stupid comments to yourself. I could still hear the tires of cars around me but some goof stretches it to the point that we don't even hear sirens! Maybe some of you should have paid attention better and not hijack a thread complaining about extreme instances. If you think that there is no way exhaust sound level make any difference in another driver knowing you are there no matter what just stick your fingers in your ears and repeat after me "la la la la la la I can't hear you".

Not me. Some things are too important to give up. Like the low speed handling issues I had on the Venture I look for a fix. Most of my commute is city streets around the edge of town, traffic lights and not terribly fast but at least a few miles between many of the lights. Trough the center of town got too intense and I tended to stay away from that area on the little bike. When I ride there is a few things that got to be habit. Not staying next to a cage is one. When I go by one in the next lane I don't dally. Cuts down on the time they have to do something stupid. I also found most of the drivers that don't see you (or maybe don't look) also don't use turn signals cutting down the response time. Maybe this is just a smaller bike thing. Stock pipes or not and with 10,000 miles on the Venture it so far it has only happened once. That time the joker started the change just as I came into his view and went back without actually leaving his lane. Has no one else here ever noticed this with anything they owned at one time in any particular area? The loud (slightly) muffler on the little bike was like flipping a switch in reducing the problem. To my observations the effect was very clear. If some group ever did a decent study it will have to have a good cross section of different bikes, traffic and locations. I already did my study. Jerry

Loud is relative. The harley muffler I had on the S40 was unmodified. This was just a bit more noise the the stock Suzuki muffler and it very much did help me in traffic. You know, the ones you can get almost new when the Harley bunch switch their new bike to the ones no one can miss. Going from getting cut off once or twice a day (sometimes skipping a day) to nothing was good enough for me. And yes don't expect much help on the freeway but I know it helps in town. Now I mention using a stock harley muffler and being slightly louder and people start talking about the extreme. Maybe it was a mistake to use that old saying in the header. This thread is like some of you didn't even read anything after the header and just started posting. I don't like being around the very loud bikes either. I also didn't need to go that far to have an effect. As far as a study, those groups only find what they want to find. Did anyone check out the link? I don't think the police bikes were extreme but thats where this thread seemed to go right off. Jerry
