  1. I decided to try the test again picking what seemed to be the worst answers including a couple of "not interested in motorcycles". It picked a Volvo for me with a picture of a Volvo station wagon. Also there was the following text. Jerry You're mostly interested in getting from point A to point B alive and in one piece, and it seems like everybody out there is crazy and trying to kill you. Instead of noticing that a big part of the problem is your tentative and ambiguous behavior on the roads, you solve the problem by surrounding yourself with an impenetrable cage of metal. In today's automotive market, you probably have a SUV instead of a Volvo. Don't kid yourself, you suffer from the exact same pathology. In any case, you are entirely unsuited for motorcycling. In fact, your propensity for suddenly slamming on the brakes at the end of highway onramps, driving 55mph in the left lane, leaving your blinker on for 10 miles, and "being nice" by unpredictably stopping in a multi-lane road to let people turn in front of you makes you fairly unsuited for driving anywhere, particularly if there are any motorcycles around to get crushed by your tank-like car.
  2. I got the FJR too!
  3. I think JB weld is just normally used to hold the first generations together.
  4. My wife wanted the Ventures type of passenger seat. A backrest on a RSTD would not have done it for her. We have been on a few rides with the Star Touring group and the other passenger type wives sure liked the looks of the Ventures seat, especially after 2 or 3 hours on the road. My wife got a lot of questions on the comfort. Sounds like it is more comfortable then mine even. The trunk is very nice for commuting, helmet and gloves go there. More coverage with the fairing and built in sound were all pluses. We planned on some traveling so it was all good. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have the simpler, lighter, cleaner RSTD but in reality I use the extras on the Venture too much. The important question for you is what, if any of these features do you see yourself using? Jerry
  5. Mine was doing that at about 60 degrees and colder last winter (we don't see 60 until winter around here). In my case all of the buttons would stop working but the volume control still worked. A couple of time the display lighting would even fade out. Since it only had trouble when cold I figured the dealer would never find it if it didn't act up for them. I eventually fixed it by shooting a little WD40 in the connector and plugged it in and out a few times to clean the contacts. Then a little dielectric grease to seal the plug. Jerry
  6. Check out this thread. Along with talk about speakers there is a filter. I haven't tried it myself but word is if you block the bass to these little speakers you can reduce the distortion, in this case a frequency the speakers were not made to reproduce. Jerry
  7. As far as the oil change the part I had a problem with filling it to the right level by myself. Always afraid I was going to drop it on me stooped over next to it trying to hold it level and still see through the sight glass. I picked up a woman's mirror set at a local dollar store. One full size hand mirror in some bright color I keep in a tool box and a small folding compact type mirror I keep in the trunk. With the mirror handy its easy to check the level while sitting on it holding the bike upright. Jerry
  8. I just sold a Suzuki S40 with a belt. The thing would get noisy, especially when cold. It took careful tension adjustment to minimize the noise but would still squeak at times. Belt lube about every 1000 miles helped. There was the time our street was resurfaced with tar and a layer of rock. A tar coated rock stuck to the pulley causing me to have to stop right there and get it out. Good thing I was going real slow or may have lost the belt. Still ended up walking the bike home. Never would try a dirt road after that. There were the warnings about shocking the belt in the owners manual. Said to shorten life. To be easy on the belt I never did launch the bike hard. Always wonder what the little torque monster would have done. I think the bike could have used a bit taller gearing. Couldn't find a different pulley on the market. Would have been a good bike with a chain. Glad I sold it before the belt needed to be replaced. Jerry
  9. I got excited at first, looked like something to replace the Venture whine with. It's a shame its belt drive. For a long distance bike it's nothing but a shaft for me. For shorter distances I'd rather have a chain. Looks like I'll be keeping winey till I see something better for me. As far as 10 year old technology, it works. I'd like injection but these carb work very well. Style, I could never tell what is in style anyway. I just do my own thing. It is a lot more modern then my '75 CZ. Jerry
  10. I couldn't tell for sure when you expect to arrive in Tucson. If you are able to sight see on the 4th I can be a guide. I do know where a bunch of good and inexpensive places to eat are. There have been a number of good suggestions. There is also a nice mountain ride to see the most southern ski lift in the country. On another mountain is a big time observatory complex. There a lots of rides around, lakes, other dams and mountain roads. Jerry
  11. Plugging in two devices causes them to load down each other. Seems like sometime past I saw talk here about using the audio channel from the cassette as another input. Seems like a jumper is needed to make the system think the cassette is still installed and connect a device to the cassette audio wires. Never tried it myself but may be something there. Jerry
  12. There is always this site from a prior thread. Jerry
  13. I have always been interested in the micro cars. Besides tracking down an original there are ones available as a kit car. I have particularly liked the Messerschmitt with the single wide seating and hinge over canopy. I did have a Porsche replica kit that was low enough to fit under a train crossing gate, there is one at work that would come down with no train coming. Others go around but I went under. I started worrying about getting taken out and ended up selling it. There is something about looking over at a truck next to you and being eye level with a 4 wheel drive locking hub! The little thing would just be a speed bump to some of the lifted trucks in town. Jerry
  14. It's Baseball season already?
  15. The PTT ground is a good idea. Could be finding the ground path through the headlight warning lamp. The ground of the radio transmitter may also be worth looking at. Another possibility is the antenna or cable. I don't know how the VR equipment locations are but is the antenna cable is routed next to a sensitive circuit it could cross talk into the adjacent wire. A poor ground for the antenna can also create lots of interference with other circuits. Jerry
  16. Wow, Tubenet, thats pretty cool. I didn't continue band after the 8th grade. Getting the fiberglass one after the other player moved to Reno was a big thing for me. I was maybe 115 lbs soaking wet then. I think the brass one weighed more then me. I didn't realize back then that there would be things you could do with it in later years. At that time I was the only Sousaphone player in Mineral County, Nevada. Pretty neat hanging with the High School girls when the High School Jazz band borrowed me. Jerry
  17. I always preferred the Sousaphone over the Tuba. Don't care much on the finish except I liked the fiberglass one on parade day. Jerry
  18. I had the front dropped 1/2 inch when I went to the narrow. It was a bit light and touchy for me. I raised it back to stock and along with getting used to it there was much improvement. It really likes to turn now and Its even better in a strong wind then the stock were. Jerry
  19. AZSpyder

    Bad boy horn

They are rated a bit different but I wonder how the test setups compaired. Similar design and actual outputs could be closer (or farther apart) then advertised. Jerry
  20. There are ways to practice on a bad riding day. I don't know if this one will work with a Venture. Jerry
  21. I think its an interesting idea. I always liked the kit VW trike introduced in the 70's, This is an interesting way to do it. And you have the potential of making more power then the Venture along with easy to get parts. Jerry
  22. Doing 50 over on a motorcycle or MOPED? Anyone getting caught doing 50 over anything on a moped should get an award.
  23. I guess I didn't see the link to Illegals but did notice it went that way. Maybe I just expect too much here. The clear term for Illegals would have been "Illegal Mexicans" or Mexican Nationals" here illegally. There are also "Mexican Americans". This group belongs here as much as my Irish, English, Danish American butt. The term "Mexican" is the legal and illegal in one group. There are many legal "Mexicans" among us. I expect many in this group. The damage from the illegals is expensive in cost and lives. Illegals come from many countries but we just see more from south of the border here in the states down south.
  24. All I could tell for sure is there were two women maybe gesturing or justuring to each other more then paying attention to the driving. I have to remember how this works. So when someone is a bad driver and looks Mexican then they don't have a license, insurance and collect DUIs? I'll be sure my son is up on this, he's marrying a Hispanic girl next month.
  25. This one looks like a good deal for a ready to go trailer. Also this site may be interesting. Jerry
