Heck of a deal! Actually I think the shipping was very reasonable.

Good to know you will be ok. I've given consideration to riding to work to save gas. Down here in the southern part of the state there are way too many deer. I would save about $4/day, just not worth it to me.

Will these Mufflers work?
Rosie1965 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My guess would be that they're going to be way too short. The mid 80's Yamaha's mufflers always looked short to me on the UJMs. If they are in really good shape they would probably be worth getting just to resell. -
Good luck twigg! I'll be thinking about you when I'm on my 400 mile ride today.

Not Jardine but ????
Rosie1965 replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm picking up some road king mufflers tomorrow for mine. Mine came with Jardines or Macs, not sure which. Beautiful sound, just not what I bought the bike for. -
I went through the same thing with my son a couple years ago on my Madura. Really scary getting that phone call. Some gal in a hurry to get to WalMart cut him off in intersection. He was wearing a helmet luckily but was really bruised in the groin area. Pics show damage to the tank from his body. Bikes can be replaced, loved ones can't. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/th_IMG_0930.jpg http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/th_IMG_0929.jpg

I would definitely get that new rear tire on before digging too deep. Tires will do funny things. -
I joined on the facebook group but only to join. Can't get the info with that kind of setup that you can on this forum with the search features and all.

Warm Start Issue
Rosie1965 replied to MikeZ06Allen's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have seen this from ethanol blended fuel in some carburetors I worked with back in the 90's. I always tell people with carbs that the ethanol is ok unless it's going to sit for any extended period of time.- 24 replies

What were they thinking?!!!
Rosie1965 replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think putting the thermostat where the temp sending unit is would have worked fine. Do they have the flow on these systems reversed compared to most? Flowing from the bottom of the radiator to the top?- 8 replies

Went ahead and pulled the starter. I was under the impression the 1990 model would have the 4 brush starter, to my disappointment it was the 2 brush. The brushes have a lot of life in them still and the starter worked great before even when hot. I will review the ground mod I read about earlier and probably take that route. I also relocated the TCI to the top of the battery box while in there. I don't want to get too carried away on mods since funds are limited and the bike ran good except for the thermostat.- 8 replies

Been tearing down the VR to get to the thermostat and have a few choice words for the engineers. Since this is a family oriented site I won't say them. Was the cooling system an afterthought or what?! If I didn't know any better I'd say this was designed by our government. One department designed the motor and another department designed the cooling system. Neither one consulted each other. Finished with my rant, thank you.

I revived the thread because of my curiosity on the technical issues. I had no intention of starting a pissing match between brethren.

dummy plug, 12v?

None in there currently, just the plug. -
dummy plug, 12v?
Rosie1965 replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So does the plug pop out then? I didn't want to force anything and break it. -
I don't plan on making any changes in the near future but I found the concept interesting. Was just reading up on the VMax/FJR final drive swaps and found it. Getting the low gear benefits of the 3.66 final drive but still retaining the overdrive function of 5th gear seems like a no-brainer.

I have what looks like a cigarette lighter on left fairing that says 12V-DC. There is nothing there as far as wires go. Is this a dummy plug or do they really need to let people know it's a 12V-DC system?

I'm not in the habit of waking up two year old threads, but this is like watching a movie where the ending just leaves you hanging. Was this mod successful or not?

Most stations around here still allow you to pump first. One of the things that attracted me to Iowa. I grew up in Southern California and you had to pay first, that was still back in the early 80's.
