COP (coil over plug) ignition

I just read 18 pages of thread in Vmax forum, whew:) They talk like they have run thousands of miles using the short Denso coils with stock TCI and no resistors. Couldn't yet access some of the links due to being a new member. -
COP (coil over plug) ignition

I knew Dingy had done something with it. I would like to retain my CDI if possible since it's in great condition and would be an extra cost. I know it's been done on the vmax's so shouldn't be too difficult on the Venture. -
Is Centers for Disease Control trying to reduce motorcycle use?
Rosie1965 replied to djh3's topic in Watering Hole
When seat belt use became mandatory in Iowa they said it would bring down the cost of insurance. That's been over 20 years and I'm still waiting for my insurance to go down. -
excessive heat from engine

Here's a thread that may help you. I used a cable tie and that will keep them shut. To keep the vents open in front of my legs I use the air fresheners that go into vents. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68878 -
I have one from a 90 I could set you up with but it doesn't look like that. Too bad too, could meet somewhere on a day trip.

Recent upgrades

If you blocked off the front port from the rear master and don't have a splitter then your left front caliper is leaking with no pressure being applied? -

So do you have a splitter to run both front calipers off the front master? -

I replaced the banjo bolt with a metric bolt from the hardware store, don't remember the exact size. There is absolutely no way I would recommend eliminating the use of one of the rotors. The less than stellar response of just the right rotor is the main reason I de-linked. -
Just did a couple upgrades to my 90 VR and wanted to share with others maybe contemplating the same things. De-linked the brakes. I did this on a low budget and used the front lines and splitter from an 86 V65 Magna, then gutted the proportioning valve and blocked the front passage on the rear mc. I love it! I never liked having to use my foot for front brake. The MKII calipers are plenty potent, I'm able to lock front or rear on command now. 4 brush starter. Did the ground mod on the 2 brush shortly after I purchased the bike. Wish I had just done the 4 brush at that time. Last week we were going to take off on a nice ride, bike failed to start in the driveway. I guess I can be thankful it didn't happen 500 miles from home. Got on ebay and purchased a 98 starter from Pinwall, total of $62. Arrived today and installed, bike has never started so good. I inspected brushes before install and they looked practically new, parts bike had 80k miles on it. Beautiful weather here today, going to go out and enjoy it.

I really enjoy the lower gears on my MKII. One reason people are probably seeing better mpg's is less of a need to downshift. These motors have a sweet spot and I think the VMax or FJR final drive helps get them in that sweet spot. I regularly get 40 mpg two up with mine.

Sounds like a great ride. My 90 VR was doing that with the radio. I just wired in an aux input and added satellite radio, problem solved.

Love the final drive upgrade on my first generation!

how do you remove saddlebags 88 Venture
Rosie1965 replied to Hawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Changing pads can be done without removing the bags, it's just a tight squeeze. -
Button ,Button who has a button?
Rosie1965 replied to mraf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
mraf, If you haven't found a button yet send me your mailing address in a PM and I can send one to you. My unit was rendered useless so I removed the whole thing but the buttons are good. I won't charge you anything, just pay it forward when you get a chance.- 8 replies

Rear brake puzzle
Rosie1965 replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I appreciate all the concerned replies, I will be getting this fixed. I have ridden all summer with it like this and am quite confident I will be ok until I do get it fixed. Only have about one good ride left before putting away for winter. Currently have new pads so the scenario of the pads touching each other won't be happening. 42 years of riding experience should help too. -

Skydoc, I've owned the bike since March. Bought it in Lincoln, NE. Would have to look at the registration to remember the guy's name. Just put new EBC HH pads on it as we are heading to the Ozarks Tuesday morning. Venturous, the rear wheel swap crossed my mind too. Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for a MKII rotor. This is still functional, just not optimum.
