  1. I've been thinking of making some changes. I have the progressives and one up ride is pretty good. Two up is where the front seems light and too rough on rough roads, it seems around here that's all we have:confused24:. I have 5w oil in my magna forks and like it, but I'm 175 lbs. and bike is lighter too. Would be interesting to hear what others have tried to turn their first gen into a cadillac.
  2. Thomas, Not quite sure what you mean by some of the holes being blocked by the adapter. There is a gap between the filter holes and the adapter holes, therefore the holes don't need to directly line up with each other. Have over 1,000 miles on my adapter with Napa gold 1522 with no issues.
  3. My Venture had Avons front and rear when I bought it, no issues with handling. When the rear started getting worn and cupped I replaced it with an E3 for it's load capacity, still have the Avon on front. I really like the way it handles. I was contemplating putting an E3 on the front when it became necessary to change. After reading your review I might just replace the front with another Avon when it becomes necessary. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
  4. David, If you can't get any let me know. Would be happy to send them to you as I removed my cassette player.
  5. 250 miles today and everything worked perfect!
  6. Put all your weight on center stand as you pull up on passenger grab handle, with left hand on left grip as mentioned. I weigh 175 and can pop mine right up. Don't try to fight it and don't try to lift bike. When you pull up on grab handle you are forcing your foot down, not lifting.
  7. Got my COPs installed and fired up. Going to do some riding tomorrow with them. I went ahead and took the gamble with no resistors since I have the 90+ digital TCI. I ran my wiring in the factory loom that the high tension wire ran in, then snipped the connectors off my stock coils and used them. I already had a bunch of plastic off since I installed the upgraded battery cables but I left the stock coils in place since I didn't want to remove the fairing. I'm sure at a later date I will have it off and can remove coils then. Can't really notice much difference in garage but it started up and ran fine. On stock setup I could hear an ignition tick in my speakers with radio on, drove the wife nuts since her hearing is much better than mine. The tick is gone now. Looking forward to road testing tomorrow. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload.jpghttp://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload1.jpghttp://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload2.jpghttp://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload6.jpghttp://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload8.jpghttp://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/COPs/securedownload9.jpg
  8. Maybe linkage got a little rusty being outside and it's not completely engaging into 2nd gear?
  9. But you only gave $500 for it
  10. Yes the center stand is still usable. You will have to make a transition pipe on each side. Here is a side pic of mine with the RK's. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Wisconsin%20trip%20June%202nd%202012/wisc5.jpg
  11. I've only been through the whole tear down 3 times, but that's 2 more times than I should have. I just installed the heavier wires yesterday, haven't got things back together yet. I really like the Dano starter clutch, someday will probably have one.
  12. I think you are pretty safe with any second generation starter. Plenty of threads on here on the subject, including identification.
  13. I meant any glare problems for you, off of mirrors or anything at night.
  14. LOVE my 4 brush starter. Wish I had done that the first time instead of trying to make my 2 brush work better.
  15. I've seen those and had the same idea but haven't tried it. Keep us updated how they work out. Curious if you have any glare issues at night and if it increases your visibility during the day.
  16. I think I would try jumping 12 volts right to the coil circuit before getting too carried away with changing parts. If it fires up at that point then you can start eliminating the different switches. I've had cars in the past that would fire while cranking then lose the ignition when backing off. You might inadvertently be sending juice to the ignition by back feeding off the start circuit, then letting up on starter you lose your source.
  17. Don't forget the Harley Road King pipes. Very affordable($25-$40) and not too difficult to fit on Venture. That's what I have and really enjoy the sound. Had Macs before, although they sound good they were too loud for me on a 300-500 mile day. Here's a nice pair, don't know how far from you. http://rmn.craigslist.org/mpo/4412645839.html
  18. Great beginner bike for someone or just a nice bike to run errands on. Good find!
  19. Either something is wrong with the threads on your adaptor or the filter isn't compatible. I don't have a list of filters to cross reference to.
  20. Any good filter is going to have a check valve, often referred to as an "anti drainback valve". This makes sure the filter is full of oil at startup.
  21. You are correct, it's the Napa 1522. Plenty of clearance but some might prefer a shorter filter.
  22. Purolator L25288, or equivalent. I just had my Napa store cross reference that number since I'm a fan of the Napa gold filters.
  23. I installed my drain valve O ring today that I received from Skydoc. Simple install, hopefully no more cold morning leaks. Earl's directions tell you to be careful not to lose the small steel ball, that's no joke. When pulling on my valve it was resistant then came out all at once. I couldn't find the ball anywhere. Then I shook my coat and it fell on the floor. I would recommend putting a rag or duct tape around the valve when removing it so you don't lose the ball.
  24. Got my new spin on adaptor installed today, should make oil changes less of a pain. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/filter.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/261045385834?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
  25. I might step out on a limb and give this a try. I've been contemplating cutting my shield down but didn't want to cause more problems when riding two up. This just might be the answer.
