  1. First thing. Welcome to the site! Second thing. Pics! Now, you can download a service manual here: http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/firstgenmanual.pdf It should give you the info you need to remove the tank. There are some good threads on the site that talk about cleaning and coating the inside of the tank that you can search for. Once you have it put back together, run a good dose of Sea-Foam through the system. Glad to have you here and look forward to meeting you at the Rally!! Dave
  2. AT keyboard cable. Not as easy to find as they use to be but still available through our local electronic parts store. Dave
  3. When do we leave? Do you have a specific destination in mind or are we just going wherever the road takes us? Dave
  4. A couple of things can make a difference on your bike. Sync the carbs & run some Seafoam through the fuel tank/carbs and clean it out. Welcome to the site, don't forget rule no. 1 - pictures. Dave
  5. You're not crazy if you're riding!! The Butler mod makes a huge difference. Stop by SLC on your way. Dave
  6. Same here "What is a rocker?" Any pictures? Dave
  7. Frank Reese, that makes the Apache tents, is 82 years old. He and his wife still ride a Goldwing trike and it's amazing to see him set up camp in just a few minutes. Like was said, not the least expensive tent but definitely quick (especially valuable in the rain). Dave
  8. Jack- I broke the bleeder loose and then sealed it shut leaving the wrench on the bleeder, turned the front wheel as far to the left as I could. In this position, I could depress the foot peddle with my left hand and release the bleeder on the left front caliper. I know you have a better reach than I do! Dave
  9. Search for manuals....they are available to download for free. A great tool to have. It will label things and walk you through repair and maint items. Dave
  10. I feel for ya....since last Wednesday. Get well soon!!! Dave
  11. Also check to see that the radio is set down into the connectors on the bottom of the radio unit. This is it's connection to the amp/control unit underneath. When I first got my '86 I didn't have the left channel and it was because of this connector. After this many years the plastic changes a bit and the connectors spread apart a bit. Dave
  12. Yes, there is an amp. The radio is simply the tuner portion of the system. On the radio face is a button that will send the sound to the headset or to the speakers. If you get sound to your headset then it may be as simple as pushing the button for it to go to the speakers. The button may not be functioning. If you aren't getting any radio sound anywhere, your intercom maybe on and highly sensitive and overriding the radio function of the system. Because the CB will override both the radio & intercom, you maybe be hearing it but nothing else. If you're hearing the CB through the speakers, then your headset/speaker button is set to speaker mode. Dave
  13. Doing a good carb sync will help as well. I'm just down the way in Taylorsville and my son (also has an 83) is at Weber State and could take the carb tool home with him this weekend. Dave
  14. and what did you see....popcorn popping on the apricot tree? Dave
  15. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know of anything we can do. Dave
  16. From all of us and our families that have been the beneficiaries of the selfless dedication of the emergency personnel in our cities, thank you to you and especially for your friend and coworker. I'm sitting at my daughters house typing this as she is getting the medical attention she needs at the hospital dealing with pre-mature labor. You guys are awesome!! Dave
  17. Here are some pics from the Cody Roundup in 2009.
  18. Beartooth is a great ride!! I rode in 2007 and 2009 and it will be a for sure ride for the International Rally in July!! The weather in spring and fall can be unpredicable and can turn to snow quickly. Dave
  19. That's what my mechanic had us do. Run it 20 miles, let it sit overnight and then top off the tank. Dave
  20. We're suffering through 62* weather today...instead of 21* in Salt Lake
  21. Jan and I drove from Las Vegas, NV this morning to Tucson, AZ. We looked at it on mapquest last night to get a feel for the day (427 miles). When we programed the TOMTOM and headed out, Jan noticed that it showed a 100 mile longer trip than what we saw the night before. Come to find out, the unit was keeping us on the Interstates and would have taken us to Flagstaff, AZ first and then south to Phoenix, then Tucson. We remembered mapquest took us down Hwy 93 to Phoenix and once we started that way, the unit corrected itself and, poof, a hundred miles of driving disappeared. Man did we get lucky! Dave
  22. Even if you don't do the Big Horns, work you way up to Red Lodge, Montana and ride Beartooth Pass. There are two options here. Ride all the way across and enter Yellowstone via Cooke City (North East Entrance) or split off and take the Chief Joseph Highway in to Cody, Wyoming and then ride into Yellowstone via the East entrance. Both ways won't disappoint. NE Entrance you ride through one of the largest Buffalo herds in the Lamar Valley. East Entrance you ride Chief Joseph and can visit Cody. Beartooth Pass can turn nasty quickly so, plan the ride accordingly. You could always come over in late July and join us for the International Rally in Cody. Dave
  23. Show off Stephen!! I will be happy to enjoy the warm weather when we come to Tucson next month. Hang on to some of it until we get there will ya? Dave
  24. Welcome to the greatest website on the web!!! Look us up on your way through Salt Lake area! We'd love to get to know you and have room if you like. Dave
