Be aware of your debit / credit cards while traveling
Midicat replied to Lone Eagle's topic in Watering Hole
It seems obvious to me that most retailers, even oil companies, realize that there are many more people living on credit. And many of those are living beyond their means (whether by choice or necessity, that's not the issue). Many are living so far out of their means that there is a higher percentage of chance that the $50 it will take to put gas in the car is not available on the card. Like always, the oil companies are making sure they get their money by doing a pre-auth. Thomas -
I would be very surprised if you couldn't find anything at Custom Dynamics that would work for you. They have a great selection of really innovative products. (no, I don't work for the company) Thomas

Had the group over at the house tonight. I was serving ice cream (chocolate or vanilla) with choice of strawberry, caramel, or chocolate sauce, real whipped cream and maraschino cherries. Oh, and of course, coffee. We had Don (XV1100SE) & Nancy, Carl & Marca, Wayne & Robin, Ray (Payshaw), and Phil (sleepy2). So great to have them over! I have been asked to organize a Saturday or Sunday ride for those of us who can't do the Wednesday night ritual. I will post more info on a separate thread. Thanks for a great visit guys! Thomas

Extra Speacial Canada Day for my Family ITS A BOY.
Midicat replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
That's a BIG Deal! So when he's old enough you fill him up with chocolate and send him home to his parents. Life has a way of providing opportunities for fun! All the best to mom and dad. Thomas -
Friday, I'm gonna head out for a ride for a few hours. Leave around 6-6:30am then I'll come back home, have breakfast and do....maybe nothing. In the afternoon my wife says there's a bbq happening with some friends. That's where you will find me sittin' back and chillin' with a nice cold beer. There will be no physical exertion for me. No job jar or "honey do" list. Ya see, Friday July 01 is my birthday and I get to do whatever I please that day. Woohoo! Saturday & Sunday are still open so far. I was actually thinking of making the hop over to Bob's on Monday since I have the day off. We'll see. Thomas

Been there, done that. Wanna see the t-shirt? One word for you...chiropractor! After being diagnosed with my problem, I checked out a chiropractor and I was "right as rain" in 3 weeks of 3 days/wk visits. Do yourself a huge favour and stop pumping chemicals into your body that do nothing more than treat the symptom and not the cause. Only a chiropractor can address the cause in your back. Thomas

That would be great! He needs to eat a salad before any ice cream tho. Its a Canadian thing.

trunk/saddlebag seals
Midicat replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did a parts check on Yamaha Parts List. Part #54K-2847F-00-00 shows as "seal" and is listed "obsolete" by Yamaha. From the diagram, I can't tell if it's a rubber seal or the metal seal we have on the lid and base. Either way, you can't get it from Yamaha. Thomas -

I would suggest staying away from refurbished. Even though they have been looked at by the service department of the manufacturer, they tend to still pose more of a problem than new. I bought refurbished "once". It was a problem system. Go with new, you'll be happier. Thomas

have a few ???s
Midicat replied to talonsx2's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like you have an '85 there with some extras goodies. Brian's right, the floorboards could almost pay your insurance for a year if you decided to sell them. No second gear issue? That's great. If the paint is good, and it's just a matter of tinkering with the engine. I'd say go for it. Thomas -
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Melanoma can end your life! Skin Cancer. We don't talk about it and probably because we just don't know. Please pass this on to any young people you know. I was young once and understood the feeling of invincibility. They need to know that they can be invincible, they just need to be vigilante. http://dcmf.ca/ Thomas

Clear Side Panels
Midicat replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
After a couple of years of enduring high heat on the legs in July, I knew I needed to do something about it. I don't remember where I saw the discussion but I did read about a Venture owner cutting Lexan to fit the opening. I figured this was a great alternative to waiting for a bargain on Ebay on louvers. I bought bronze coloured Lexan and used card stock paper to trace the side panels and trim to the needed dimensions and shape. Used the card stock as a template for marking and cutting the Lexan. Drilled holes where required, and "voila". Colour coordinated heat blockers. I'm happy. So is the hair on my thighs. Thomas -

These look like they're exclusive to 2nd Gen riders. Too bad, they look really good. Thomas

The Headlight Mod....
Midicat replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Mike, for diggin' that up for me. It really looks great. Did you have to modify the liner in the fairing at all for heat considerations? Thomas
