  1. Is there any issue with the boards "spinning" on the crash bar? I guess I need to know that they are "solid" and don't move around when you rest the full weight of your legs on them. Thomas
  2. It's THAT kindness that makes me shake my head and count my blessings for knowing this group. Because of people like you, it makes me want to "pay it forward". Proud To Be A VentureRider! Thomas
  3. I received my Pinwall Cycles amp today and after a couple of things off the "honey do" list I got the chance to install it. After checking and double checking the connections, ground, antenna, and such, I looked away as I turned the dial to "on". What happened was literally sweet music to my ears. Crystal clear music from both speakers! What a joy! So. I buttoned it all back up and polished until my wife got home and as soon as her car door opened...I was gone. 3 hours on the scoot and not a single blip in the sound. (knock wood) I can't wait for the spin to Pioneer weekend. I will be humming, singing out loud and bobbing my head all the way to NY state. Cheers! Thomas
  4. Ok, here ya go. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62556 Thomas
  5. I'll be there for 9:00am coffee and won't leave until after the 1:30pm ride. That is, unless I'm asked to leave. Thomas p.s. Yeah. A poll is a great idea. All info in one space.
  6. So, the question needs to be asked of those who currently run this setup. Is it any brighter than say, what my 85 has as stock? I am considering this as an alternative. Thomas
  7. I see the original front clear plexi cover is removed. Is that due to heat issues with the new light config? Thomas
  8. I LOVE PHOTOS! They really add the "hot sauce" to the conversation! Thomas
  9. I'm sorry Bob. Please don't be offended. I've always had to pay my way through this life and I find it difficult to accept such generous offers. I promise I'll try to change my ways. Thomas
  10. Clive, I will share with you what I've learned. 1st - tapping the amp may bring it back to life but this is not a long-term solution, (actually about a 5km solution) 2nd - all first Gen amps are the same part number so the amps are interchangeable. 3rd - the top panels are usually not the problem, the problem is inside the amp which I have completely opened up and scoured both circuit boards for cold solder joints (found one, didn't fix my problem) 4th - the amp has two cables coming out from it. One (bottom of photo) is power and speaker outputs, the other is to interface with the top panel. The cable coming from the receiver is wider and cannot fit into the socket for the amp. So no worries about mixing them up. That's all I have. Replacement amp is on it's way to me now from Pinwall Cycles and I will let you know if it fixed my troubles. Thomas
  11. Thanks Kevin. What sizes are the sockets and wrenches? Thomas
  12. Can someone take a couple of snapshots of that 1st Gen toolkit so I can make one up for myself? Huh? Anyone? Anyone at all.
  13. Charlie, Been there but there is no "Like" button to press. As a matter of fact there isn't one on any of the others I looked at. Which makes me wonder how you got 5 Likes already. Let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Thomas
  14. Let me start by sending out a heart felt "Thank You" to all who replied and offered parts (amp) and advice. You guys are truly the best. Now for an update. After stopping by Carl's this afternoon where we pontificated on the relevance of the existential man in today's society, we also took some time to discuss the issue at hand. Carl's advice was to remove the two sockets for the audio system from the back of the unit and plug them into the system so that I would have some wiggling ability. This sounded reasonable to me and so I went on my merry way with new information and another amp (in case the wiggling might not work). I have now just completed about 30 mins of fiddling and yes, wiggling to no avail. I plugged in Carl's donated amp and it powered up but alas, no sound at all. Not right channel, not left channel. Nothing. Nada. After double checking and triple checking connections, ground and antenna, there was not a peep. I plugged my original unit back into the system and got the same garbled gobbledygook as I started with, emitting from the right channel. In a small fit of frustration I hit the top of my amp (not very hard) with the handle of my socket wrench and gobbledygook turned to sweet melodies. LOLOL It would appear that the "love tap" from the business end of a hand tool was all it took to get my amp to see things my way. I know this is not a permanent solution but I'm liking the results right now and I'm gonna ride it out for as long as I can...for now. Thomas
  15. No one likes to see their ride laying on it's side. It's just so...unnatural. Kind of short-circuits the brain waves. Glad your safe tho. The punch to the pride will go away faster after the parts are replaced. But, if you don't behave with your 2005 RSTD, I'm going to ask you to park it until I can get there to take it away from you. Play nice, or pay the price. Thomas
  16. So it would appear that the right channel of my amp is toast. Would anyone have a 1st Gen amp they would be willing to part with at a reasonable price? (I have thought about buying a complete new system and trashing the whole stock radio but I am stuck on having the ability to go to headset anytime I like and having GPS Bluetooth phone capabilities, thanks to my Buddy Rich cable. I partly blame Buddy Rich for my dilemma. ) Thanks, Thomas
  17. just sayin'. Thomas
  18. It seems obvious to me that most retailers, even oil companies, realize that there are many more people living on credit. And many of those are living beyond their means (whether by choice or necessity, that's not the issue). Many are living so far out of their means that there is a higher percentage of chance that the $50 it will take to put gas in the car is not available on the card. Like always, the oil companies are making sure they get their money by doing a pre-auth. Thomas
  19. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find anything at Custom Dynamics that would work for you. They have a great selection of really innovative products. (no, I don't work for the company) Thomas

  21. Had the group over at the house tonight. I was serving ice cream (chocolate or vanilla) with choice of strawberry, caramel, or chocolate sauce, real whipped cream and maraschino cherries. Oh, and of course, coffee. We had Don (XV1100SE) & Nancy, Carl & Marca, Wayne & Robin, Ray (Payshaw), and Phil (sleepy2). So great to have them over! I have been asked to organize a Saturday or Sunday ride for those of us who can't do the Wednesday night ritual. I will post more info on a separate thread. Thanks for a great visit guys! Thomas
  22. That's a BIG Deal! So when he's old enough you fill him up with chocolate and send him home to his parents. Life has a way of providing opportunities for fun! All the best to mom and dad. Thomas
  23. Friday, I'm gonna head out for a ride for a few hours. Leave around 6-6:30am then I'll come back home, have breakfast and do....maybe nothing. In the afternoon my wife says there's a bbq happening with some friends. That's where you will find me sittin' back and chillin' with a nice cold beer. There will be no physical exertion for me. No job jar or "honey do" list. Ya see, Friday July 01 is my birthday and I get to do whatever I please that day. Woohoo! Saturday & Sunday are still open so far. I was actually thinking of making the hop over to Bob's on Monday since I have the day off. We'll see. Thomas
  24. Maybe something like that should go into the tech library. Dontcha' think Don? I'm just askin'. No pressure. Just kinda throwin' that out there...Lookin' for feedback. Hmm? Thomas
