Yes that is the one I was talking about, dry just means the oil is not collecting into that area for some reason. When you have the dealer fix it, make sure they flush the cooling system to get the residual oil out of the system.

I know the water pump seals were the culprit on my 98 TC, a couple of folks over on the Delphi forums had similar issues and found it to be the water pump shaft.
-
Walt, Most likely cuprit are the seals on the water pump shaft, the water pump is on a driven gear in the crank case, there are seals to keep the oil in the crank case and coolant in the cooling system, sometimes when the seals go bad you will get oil in the coolant. There is a small chamber between the seals where any leaks should go first, check under the bike for a small rubber vent hose inline and behind the water pump housing, see if it is wet with oil or coolant, that should confirm if the seals are leeking. Had the same thing happen on my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic, but not till way after the warrenty was up. Check that you do not have coolant in your oil also. A compression test and compression leak down test at the deal should tell them if you have a blown head gasket. Good luck

I am sure many of you have seen the filler panels that Harleys have between the rear fender and the saddle bags, most of the time they have tail lights, brake lights and of turn signals built in. Has anyone tried to do this on a Venture? I am looking at some leds ideas, but most of what I have found are single illumination (all leds on or off at the same time) strips or bars, nothing that you could use as both running and brake or running and turn signals. Just like to get a little more light back there to go along with my signal dymaics LED bar and my LED tail light. Thanks for any ideas.

Looks to be in very good condition with low miles. I had a 98 Royal Star Tour Classic for 9 years, put 96,000 miles on her before I sold it after getting my Venture, was sorry to see it go, but could not justify two bikes at the time. Last time I saw her the current owner was not doing her justice and wished I had kept it just to keep her looking pretty. Palm Bay is not far from me (75 miles) I could take a look at it if you are really interested. You contact the seller and make sure it is OK to send someone by to see it and I will be glad to do it. Price is maybe a little high, I sold my 98 about 4 years ago for $4000.00, that was twice what I was offered for trade or out right buy from another dealer.

There is only 3 more launches scheduled before they retire the entire fleet, one is scheduled to go this Thursday, then in April and June. Feb. 24, 2011 ULF5Discovery STS-133 EXPRESS Logistics Carrier 4 (ELC4) Permanent Multi-Purpose Module (PMM) April 19, 2011 ULF6Endeavour STS-134 EXPRESS Logistics Carrier 3 (ELC3) Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) June 28, 2011 ULF7Atlantis STS-135 Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Worst part is you never know if they will go when scheduled until about 30 minutes before they go, any number of things can cause them to scrub a mission, sometimes it is for a day or two sometimes for months. You can see pretty good from New Symrna Beach area, about 30 miles north of the Cape and should not be overly crowded. There is a little county park south of NSB in Oak Hill, they have a fishing pier you can walk out on and see pretty good once it clears srub oaks. You could go down south on A1A in NSB and get out on the beach and watch, never been out there when there is a launch, but it could be crowded. Next place south is all the way down to Titusville, that is going be very crowded, you need to get there hours ahead of time to get a decent spot. If you get down inthe neck of the woods look me up I be glad to help if I can. If you here a few days early I could help you scope out a place or two.

Any possibility that you can move the wheels to the inside of the jack? Will not help the stability of the jack but looks like it would allow the adapter legs to be used. Just a thought.

If you know where the previous owner lives, go and flick your headlight from low to high beam. If his garage door opens you will know that it is what it is. Where was the liitle black box located when you found it?

2007 cyl head or other late model issues?
M61A1MECH replied to Grisolm1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The issue on the 2007s was that some of the heads were not torqued properly, nothing wrong with the castings, just not assembled correctly. Easy to have the dealer check, all they need is the VIN and they can look it up to see if it is on the list. If it is the dealer will fix it. I am not aware of any other issues with the later model GEN 2s. -
Here are a couple of not so good PDF s that show all of the models available for the cruiser line in 1998, this should help ypu identify your bike, if it is all still stock.

DUG050 That is not a 98 Royal Star Tour Deluxe, the 98 TD was a 2 piper not a 4 piper, the bags were hard ABS bags like the current Venture except that they were not hinged on the side they lifted off, many were lost while riding because they were not latched properly.

Here are some pics I just took of the right hand side. Looks to me like the larger diameter goes on the inside. Merry Christmas, please go for ride now.

M61A1MECH replied to Mike G in SC's topic in Watering Hole
Mike I was in Panama City about a month ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, http://hipcbeach.com/, pretty nice place right on the beach. -
It was good, had about 13 or 14 folks show up, good food, good conversation and good ice cream. Hope you can make the next one when ever it is.

This link will take you Yamaha's listing of the 10 dealers closest to Orlando, sort of depends on what part of town you are in. Personally I like Seminole Power Sports or Orlando Yamaha. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/dealers/locator_results.aspx?&LOC=28.5377529561747%3a-81.3773531302006&CT=28.5377529561747%3a-81.3773531302006%3a24.9376971817917%3a18.7032728863438&DSN=MapPoint.NA&GAD2=&GAD3=Orlando%2c+Florida%2c+United+States&IC=28.5377529561747%3a-81.3773531302006%3a32%3aOrlando%2c+Florida%2c+United+States&FC=Motorcycles&ls=star

Could be the carbs out of sink, but do not forget that Yamaha was going after the Harley crowd when they introduced the original Royal Stars and so they did not put any type of counter balancer in those models. They wanted them to vibrate and to feel like a V-twin, that could be what your are feeling. It wasn't until they introduced the Royal Star Venture that a counter balancer was used, but it was still only for the Venture models and later the 2005 and up Tour Deluxes.
