  1. Strangely enough, if you have a jack, just lifting the bike provides enough room to get your hand in behind the fairing. While on the ground, there was no way I could get into the bulb. Up on the jack, it was easy. However, it is pretty easy to split the fairing. RR
  2. Jimbob, You called it right. The MSF course is enough to get someone aclimated to riding by learning the basics. Without some experience riding, a more advanced course would be very discouraging. You need to get a feel for riding before you can begin taking the courses that show how to scrap a floorboard. I rode for the first time at age 39. The RSV is my first ever bike (OK, I had a 1st Gen for about a month and traded it in on an RSV). Have since taken the MSF experienced riding course and found it very helpful. However, I would have just spent the whole time falling over if I were to have taken the experienced rider course (as an extended MSF course) initially. Would love to take a basic Police riding course. At $2500??? That will buy a lot of toys and chrome. RR
  3. Pics please. Need to see if these will add to my .... uh, ... safety!! RR
  4. There is a Yamaha 'hood ornament' on the front fender. Is this missing? RR
  5. Send me an address and I will mail it to you. RR
  6. BTW, is this for a Chatterbox style or J&M style headset? The extra cables I have are for the Chatterbox (which the picture looks like) The intermediate connection is round, not 'D' shaped - correct? RR I can just mail it to you. You can buy be a beer sometime for payment.
  7. No, I will not be going to Eureka Springs. I will be in St. Charles, IL next Thursday. How far from you is that? RR
  8. I think I have an extra one of these. Are you going to VIP this weekend? I will have it with me. RR
  9. For practice the first time pulling a trailer, I loaded a couple of bags of rock salt. It's heavy, stable, easily removable, cheap, and if it causes any difficulty, easy to dispose of. Sandbags would work too. I was pleasently surprised how well the RSV pulled a loaded trailer. Now my bride can pack all her stuff when we go on a trip. RR
  10. Leave it on backwards and the odometer will go backwards. Pretty soon, you will have a new bike again. RR
  11. Engine oil was changed with Mobil1 full synthetic earlier this summer. I will check a couple of other RSVs at VIP and see if it is the same. Been having trouble with my left elbow that may be translating into me being a whimp on the clutch. We shall see. RR
  12. Bearing Buddies are really only needed for boat trailers. They are designed to keep water from being sucked past the seals when you back into the water. When you run the trailer, the bearings get hot. Backing them into the water cools them quickly, creating a vacuum. Hence, wanting to suck water thru the seals. Because you will not be backing your motorcycle trailer into the water (and if you do, you have bigger problems than water in the bearings), you really don't need Bearing Buddies. Just give the bearings a shot of grease every once in a while. RR
  13. No. I had the clutch replaced by the dealer in 2005 (before I started doing my own wrenching). I assume he replaced the springs with standard OEM parts. I have not changed the fluid in the clutch line. I did my brake lines earlier this year, but for some reason, I didn't do the clutch at the same time. I will put a drop of oil on the lever hinge pin and see if that helps. That sounds like a good job for the next rainy weekend. It's not so bad that it keeps me from riding. BTW, the clutch works fine, just harder to pull than I would expect. RR
  14. Is there any way to reduce the force required to pull in the clutch lever? It just seems harder than it should. RR
  15. I would like to see that. That would provide the required link to make it all work. RR
  16. Total cost for Kennedy setup is about $350.00. RR
  17. Following is the response from Kennedy Electronics. You may want to scroll down to see what questions I asked to provide some context to their answers. Looks very promising. RR Kennedy@cellset.com said: here's what you'll need... cellset, mc/gps3 harley style aux audio harness fpd type 2 intercom harness zumo 550 harness universal power harness simple switch or relay timer switch assembly (to switch zumo between aux audio and intercom) yes, the passenger can hear music, gps, phone, etc. install instructions are included. it's pretty easy. all plug and chug. I want to add a Zumo 550 and aBluetoothenabled phone so I can use them over the hardwired headset/microphone in my helmet. TheZumo has theBluetooth capability to link in the phone, but I’m not sure how to get the micfrom my helmet back out to the phone. My headset is the standard 5 pin plug. It appears you products will allow this to work properly. My questions are: 1) Will you products allow me to listen to the radio or MP3 (from Zumo) in steroe, let the GPS provide direction alerts, and let me talk on theBluetooth phone? 2) If the answer to questions 1 is yes, what products are needed to make this happen? 3) Will this setup still allow a passenger to listen to music (as selected by the driver) and to use the intercom? 4) Do you have installation instructions for this setup? Thank you for your help. Regards, Jeff Johnson
  18. This is an ongoing investigation. Keep checking back for answers. We have a lead with Kennedy Electroincs - waiting for a response. RR
  19. This stuff looks cool. I sent an email to Kennedy to see what exactly would be required to integrate all the electronic toys into the current headset/microphone installed in my helmet. I'll let you know what they respond with. RR
  20. Agreed, however, I would like to take my bike on business trips. I need to use the phone while travelling (it is all voice activated). If need be, I don't find it difficult to ignore an incoming call - whether I'm in my truck or on a bike. It just provides another opportunity to ride where I would otherwise be forced to take the truck. RR
  21. This is an interesting thread since I am wanting to do something similar. I would like to integrate my Zumo 550 and my cell phone into my current hard wired headset setup. The Zumo will provide the Bluetooth link to my cell phone. I just need to find a way to integrate it into my speakers and microphone already connected to the 5 pin wiring. Will the J&M CFRG integration module do this? Any other possibilities? RR
  22. Get a battery tender. Never happen again. RR
  23. Well written letter. Send it to the Gov. You may want to hold off on the media until they get a chance to reply to you. No use in whacking the hornets nest if you don't need to. But if they don't reply - go for it. RR
  24. Get taller so you can block the wind for her. RR
