Ok well I got into the rear of my 83. Everything looked pretty good. Had a buddy blast off the paint around the welds and no cracks. One weird part was when I took the covers off the swing-arm there were grease zerts there, thought in 83 they did not have them. The crossmember that the shock mounts to is very heavy with gussets in place, has it already been modified and strengthened? Another question is how much grease do you need to pump into the drive shaft grease zert? Everything looked really good so I will be putting it back together pretty much as is and just putting new bearings in the rear wheel. I will also have the rear rebalanced. Shaun

Does make you wonder why though. It looks like your thingamabob would mount onto the fairing. Now what would you want to mount on the fairing that a second gen may have.... An 18 year old hot blond?

Hmm if you dont tell us what this thing is pretty soon we may end up with a race event on our hands. Then again that may just settle it once and for all that 1st gens really are faster.
-
It is for 1st gens but involves 2nd gens... Must be a catch hook to bring the 2nd gens up to speed when you pass them.

Hmm takes care of a couple things for you. GPS and XFM holder?

An old cowboy counseled his grandson that if he wanted to live a long life the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gun powder on his oatmeal every morning. The grandson did this religiously to the age of 103. When he died, he left . . . 14 children, 30 grand-children, 45 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grand children, and a 15 foot hole where the crematorium used to be

Well the fork seals are the wromg ones so I will have to make another trip to the bike shop. At least it is not good riding weather or this would really bum me out. Shaun -

I have just eaten to many bugs to ride without a windshield. I like the wind, to an extend. I just do not like the top of the shield to be right in my line of sight, just bugs me. A little shorter shield is fine with me. Shaun

Handling Question
Reddog170 replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did that thinking it was just clogged or something. It is completely empty. I even have the lower for tubes off now and there is no more oil to be found in them. I also found a damaged dust cap. The caps at the top of the tubes, are they suposed to be just hand tight? Mine unscrewed real easy. Looks like they have been apart before (tool marks in a couple places). I think I am supposed to have 13.5 ounces of oil in each tube. At least I hope so because I have that much oil to put back in. Shaun -
Handling Question

Here is an interesting note. I got about a dribble out of one side and almost a pint out of the other side. Not sure how big a difference it will make not having the same amount of fluid in both sides will be but it cant be good. I did let all the air out by loosening the air fitting at the compressor, used a jack stand to hold the front off the ground. I expect that I will notice a big change in how she rides after this. Help with starter switch
Reddog170 replied to Vonwolf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nope it sure dont. But it was a pain to figure out. If I put power strait to it it worked fine. If I used the button it would not work at all. Just happened to find out what it was when I had a second one and just tried it for giggles. Shaun -

No swing arm movement, side to side. Todays project, rebuild the forks. New seals, hopefully can free up enough cash for progressive springs but have a new set of stock springs for now, will change out the fork oil as well. Yep I am going to make a mess, LOL. Shaun
