  1. I wear mine most of the time. I only go without when I am making a quick run less than a few blocks. Anything more than that gets a helmet. Hit a deer a few years back, totaled a brand new helmet and wondered what my head would have looked like if I had not been wearing it. Shaun
  2. Sweet!! Nice little powerhouse.
  3. Used to be the size of the cone. Now I think it is the mounting holes.

  5. Someone asked had a venture been stolen. Well yes a friend of mine had his swiped from his farm. The police found it about a month later when the guy was trying to buy a new ignition switch for it. For security I have it locked in my garage when I am not riding, home made ignition kill and wireless camera for when I am out. If someone does get my bike I will have there picture. Shaun
  6. I wonder if you can still add a sidecar and keep the trailer as well? I looked at 2 different sidecar options about a year ago. One that was a solid mount and did not allow the bike to lean and the second that had a sliding hinge like mount that did allow the bike to lean. I think there are enough options that you should be able to work something out. Shaun
  7. Ok on my 83 I have a few things I want to clean up for looks. One is on the right side cove. The tab on the tail of the fairing broke so the previous owner just duck taped it in place. I can fix the tab but how do I remove the tape remains without damaging the paint? The second is the windshield, it has like a mild fog to it. How can I get it nice and clear again? Or should I just get a new one? The third is the aluminum has a white oxidation, what do you recomend to remove this and protect it? Thank You, Shaun
  8. This is why I dislike power washers. They blast water into places water should NEVER get.
  9. Thank You for the info. I was able to find some riding gear that my wife likes on leatherup.com Nice place there. Shaun
  10. Maintenance day, Been looking into it. It seems to be about a 10 hour ride for me. Not to bad there. Just got any tips on how to convince my wife? Will have to get a sitter for the kids. Some details to work out there. What exactly is it? Is it just a meet up and grand ol good time? Whatever it is I am certain of a couple things, I will be able to put faces to the posts, I wont remember any names and I will probably overeat.
  11. I think it depends on the type of antennas you are using. Being as it is a bike you are unlikely to be using a long whip so the shorter ones should be ok to use a splitter and run two. Shaun
  12. Nice work. Like how you switched it to the spade fuses as well. I did look at my fuse center, it does not look bad but not what I would call great. I am going through the entire bike so all of these little tips and tricks are great to know. Still wonder what the mysterious switch does. Shaun
  13. Hey I live in Iowa and have rode every month of the year for the last two years. Even if it was around the block. I grew up in an awesome 73 degree year round state. May have to move farther away from there... Hmmm
  14. Great info on the fuse box. Will be checking mine out pretty soon. Shaun
  15. Anyone in the area is welcome to stop by for a burger on March 20. It is a Saturday and my annual birthday BBQ. Just FYI. Shaun
  16. Got to say I rather enjoy this site as well. Have already talked to someone from here on the phone and may have just saved me a ton of headache and trouble. Great place. Shaun
  17. My grill is always ready to go. And yep a DQ only 15 miles away.
  18. Keep forgetting to mention that I am a little south of Iowa City ,Iowa. Just for anyone around. Shaun
  19. Well you all convinced me. I have now paid the dues and am a paying member. This seems to be an AWESOME place. I expected to have to wait several days to get a response, you folks are quick, and friendly. Thank You, Shaun
  20. Yep the last carb had to be completely tore down to free it up. The inside looks real clean. Got the floats reset and just need to order the diaphragms now. I am making progress, little quicker than I thought. They all had fuel in them and seemed clear throughout all the jetting. Maybe next weekend, if I can get the diaphragms, I will be able to get her to run. Shaun
  21. Wish I had read this sooner. I just got back in from pulling the carbs. They are a mess, I now have 3 of them that will open and one that is still stuck closed. Wich is way better that what I started with. The diaframs are shot, three are cracked and the fourth seems to be working but will still be replaced. It has a full tank of gas that smells like pain thinner and a mouse nest under where the carbs fit. What a mess. But I just do not quit, ever. I have never failed to get anything running that I have bought. Back to it, Shaun
  22. Yep I like to eat, BBQ is my favorite and I do enjoy ice cream. I also enjoy jumping on a bike and just going for a cruise. Now I did post a couple pics, they work for me but may not have come through right. I got the bike from a bike shop owner who rode it for several years before getting a newer one, the second gear problem has been fixed, he thinks. The carbs seem to be the only real problem right now. I have a switch and a couple wires I am scratching my head about but I am certain I will figure them out. The wires come off of the battery and go nowhere and the switch is on the left side between the radio and the handlebars, it lights up when turned on but nothing else happens. And the other glitch is that the fuel gauge does not seam to work. Nothing major there. Looking forward to getting her on the road. Shaun:fingers-crossed-emo
  23. Thank You. I have already been riding my Silverwing so riding season is upon me, but I ride in all sorts of weather. I am working hard to get this Venture going. Looking forward to the step up. Shaun PS I think I have gotten parts from you before.
  24. Hello. I live in Iowa and have recently bought a 1983 Venture. It was suppose to just need a little work to free up the throttle but when I got into it it turns out that the carbs are in sad shape. I did get the bike to start and idle. It will not rev up due to the carbs. I had one person tell me that this is a big repair and I can be looking at over a thousand dollars in repairs. I do not think that is right. I also have a 1981 Honda silverwing that I spent several months putting together and was told the entire time that it was junk, well I have been riding it for 5 years and put almost 40000 miles on it without an issue. So I do not give up on things, I just find out how to fix them and move on. Is there a trick to removing the carbs? Is there any places to avoid or makes sure to see when getting parts? I am really looking forward to getting her back on the road so any help will be greatly appreciated.
