  1. Proper assembly pic below. Make sure you didn't lose the 'collar' from within the wheel assembly. The collar fits inside the oil seal on right side of wheel. The collar will often fall out in the course of changing the tire. The correct arrangement: Wheel>collar>caliper bracket>washer>swingarm.
  2. Yep the caliper covers and the rotor covers are markedly different from 83-85 and 86-93. Won't say the rotor covers won't interchange with some modifications, but fo' sure the caliper covers won't.
  3. I recently picked up a full lock set (four saddlebag locks, gas cap and ignition switch from a MKII) on eBay for small money, albeit without key(s). I took one of the saddlebag locks to a local locksmith and he made two keys to fit for only $15. Considering the dealer gets $7.50 per key to copy an existing key, I thought this very reasonable. YMMV
  4. Clive, I have one of Skydoc's kits and I just measured the O-ring: 1mm x ~19.5-19.6mm OD
  5. Bu..., bu..., but HE STARTED IT!
  6. Yeah, yeah, I know about your step by step, but I could not "feast my eyes" on the Harley for that long and I figured others may not be able to handle the sight either. So I offered an alternative for those who may not have your strong stomach.
  7. One free way to downsize big photos is to upload the photo to your Facebook page. No matter the size, Facebook will allow an upload and will then resize it to suit their requirements. Then download the resized pic back to your computer and post it here. Or you can download a free picture resizer. https://imageresizer.codeplex.com/
  8. That is interesting. There was a similar four into one setup (welded steel) for First Gens Ventures on eBay for about $350 or so and it did not include a carburetor. This one is 'cast composite'. If you can get the carb tuned to your engine, then I see some potential with that setup. Three fewer carbs to keep clean and repair. Much cheaper carb cost when replacement becomes necessary. May I suggest you order the package and tell us how it worked out. EDIT: Further research has indicated that today's (made in China) EMPI carburetors are of poor quality. Investigate the possibility of buying the manifold alone and then seek out a Solex for the carb.

  10. I think he should be glad that Eileen is allowing HIM to accompany HER!
  11. The MKII top bleeder bracket is a tab with a hole that is welded to the frame.
  12. The Tuxedo got Progressive® springs and an LED high mount brake light for the trunk.
  13. CAREFULLY pry after a good dousing of WD40. When you go to put the carbs back, spray some silicone around the heated boots. Make sure you reassemble the carbs as a rack while on a flat surface to insure proper alignment of carbs to intake boots.
  14. If you consider being a Peon at 'Retired.com' working, then I am working Christmas Eve.
  15. [h=2]To all my friends:[/h] I need to spend less time on the computer, so December 31st will be my last day on VentureRider.org for the year. I will return at the start of the new year on January 1st. Thank you for your understanding.
  16. Shameless bump. Because it is soon to be a new year and I wanted to.

  18. Are you saying that you are going to retain the MKI forks because you don't want to use the electric MKII anti-dive? And you want to use R1 calipers on the MKI forks? R1/R6 calipers will not bolt up to MKI forks. I'm not saying that it can't be done (R1/R6 calipers on MKI forks) but it will require a fair amount of fabrication. I fear it would be very difficult to adapt the MKI hydraulic anti-dive to the MKII forks, although, frankly I've never seen such a conversion.
  19. O.M.G.! The image is permanently burned into my retinas. I think I will have to apply for SSDI, now.
  20. The relocation of the TCI is exclusively an owner modification. Yamaha installed the TCI in the same location throughout the First Generation Venture manufacturing run. The air box is unchanged when the TCI is relocated.
  21. I am a carpenter (a hammer is iconic) and I am an Illinois native and resident. Illinois is called 'The Prairie State'. Ergo: Prairiehammer.
  22. Yeah, I was watching that particular auction and I noted that although the starter was described as coming from a 1987 (which from the factory had a two brush starter), that it was in fact a four brush starter. Got it cheap, too didn't you. $25 or so? The lack of the big Phillips screws was a give away and it also had SM13 cast into the end cap (another indicator of a four brush starter). The two brush starter end cap will have SM229xx cast into the end cap.
