  1. Rodney, I don't know the answer to that question, but I suspect that if you had a long real name (like mine) that your nickname would be placed below. Don has the same problem. His nickname is on the same line as his real name. But, I don't know positively if that is the issue. I do know, after seeing your attempt at adding a nickname that includes a numerical digit, that numerical digits seem not to be accepted by Facebook as a nickname. I wonder (I haven't tried it) if instead of choosing 'nickname', if you were to choose 'other', that maybe the username (sans the digits) would be placed under your name instead of on the same line. Just conjecture, I dunno.
  2. Unfortunately, I have found that MANY of our members don't put their full name or even an accurate searchable (for example, they don't use the drop down list for their home state) location into the VRO member registry. As I have suggested on the VRO Facebook page, include your VRO username on your Facebook Timeline/profile. "You know what would be nice? If everyone posted their VentureRider.org username on their Facebook timeline. I did it some time ago and I would like to think it helps us to put real life names (as on Facebook) and VentureRider handle/username together. The handle shows up on your timeline. Here's how: https://www.facebook.com/help/131728300237162 "
  3. Unless Trader is monochismastic, shouldn't the phrase be plural? I.E. 'bags'

  5. If you set the Facebook Group up so only admins can add a person to the group, then you don't have to worry about others that are not admins, adding non members.
  6. While I don't have Hartco velour seat on a RSV, I do have a Road Sofa 'velour' seat on a First Gen and yes, it gets wet and stays wet for a long time. But for only $65!!! I can buy a waterproof seat cover for the Road Sofa...but, they do not recommend you RIDE with the waterproof seat cover.
  7. My bookmark is set to go to; http://www.venturerider.org/forum/ and it works as normal there for me, HOWEVER, when I am at the above location, clicking on the 'FORUM' tab opens the 'ARTICLES' page ( http://www.venturerider.org/forum/content/ ). Subsequent clicks on the 'FORUM' tab returns me to the 'ARTICLES' tab.
  8. Like most, I jack up my First Gen with jack lifting on the exhaust system. I haven't got a problem with doing that; the contact point is pretty robust there. Where I do have a problem is locating the jack, so that when lifting the bike is balanced on the jack. Ideally, I would have the Venture on its center stand before attempting to lift it with the jack. However, the center stand is actually right where I have found the balance point for a stable lift and with the center stand deployed, the jack cannot be located in the ideal balancing position. Placing the bike on the side stand allows for optimal balanced lifting, but jacking the bike while it is on the side stand is a nerve racking endeavor. One must balance the bike on two wheels, sans the stability of the side stand and proceed to jack the bike simultaneously. It is not for the faint of heart when in a solo situation.
  9. Instead of waiting for rain, I suggest that you use a garden hose at a low, low pressure and volume and check the seal when the lid is shut. Keep the water from any other penetrations in the lid, just checking the meeting rail seal. If it checks out good, then run (dribble) at each trunk penetration individually, check for internal moisture, dribble some water at the next penetration, check for internal moisture, etc. etc. If you douse the entire lid and trunk base and get moisture inside, you can't know where the leak is. Reversing the old seal MAY be all it takes, but then again that may not be enough to get a good seal. It may require replacement with new, replacement with screen spline or...?
  10. Additionally, although the MKI has no bleed valve at the steering head, you CAN break the connection to the metering valve (located at the high point of the system, near the steering head) to help with bleeding.
  11. Kanuckistan has multiple holes for cold air, dat whole country is der :santa:dang sieve, doncha know.
  12. I tried to move the 'nanner' emoticon to my favorites. Wouldn't stick. And before you ask, I tried it several times, all before I filled up my favorites with the twenty allowed.
  13. I think it is an Opel Kadett B Caravan, circa 1965.
  14. I know there will be some argument on the following statement(s): Blocking off the MKI anti-dive with block-off plates prevents the brake hydraulics from actuating the anti-dive and the fork action is identical to no anti-dive involvement. However, blocking off the MKII anti-dive with block-off plates essentially translates to having the anti-dive function in force at all times. The difference is in the way the fork oil is routed when anti-dive is actuated.
  15. Muzzys used to sell an aluminum fan blade for the Ventures (and the same fan for the V-Max), but a check of their website indicates that the aluminum fan blades are backordered. If you do a search for Muzzys fan blades for First Gen Ventures and V-Maxes, you may find something still in stock somewhere. The Muzzys part number for the Venture/V-Max fan blade is HT-H5. 16. In addition to checking for full enrichener opening by the cable adjustment Pete mentions, also check that all four enricheners are fully opening. Sometimes one or more of the enricheners are maladjusted. The individual enricheners may not all be fully opening when the 'choke' lever is fully rotated to 'choke'. Check that each enrichener actuating lever is adjusted correctly. The enrichener actuating levers are clamped to the common actuator bar with set screws. Check each for correct travel adjustment and for all the set screws to be secure.
  17. Howard, If you have a trunk rack mounted, check that there are waterproof gaskets, usually rubber washers, under each mounting foot of the rack. Open the trunk and check all fasteners that penetrate the trunk for missing nuts, for loose fasteners and for signs of water entry around the fasteners. Check for cracks in the trunk lid and trunk base. Water will enter through those cracks. The lid to base meeting rail is a tongue and groove affair. In the groove (the groove is on the base) there should be a flexible plastic or rubber seal upon which the tongue on the lid meeting rail rests when the trunk lid is closed. It is fairly common for this seal to become permanently deformed to the detriment of its original water proof performance. Is the trunk lid loose when closed and latched? In addition to the worn out meeting rail seal, if the trunk latch is maladjusted, the lid may not fit tight enough to prevent water entry. Some have used 'screen spline' from a home center to replace the worn out meeting rail seal, although it may be difficult to find small enough spline to fit the trunk groove. You may also try removing the old seal and reinstalling it, but upside down from its original orientation. Perhaps a small diameter string in the groove before reinstalling the seal may help to shim the seal. Good luck and let us know how you fixed the problem. There is a NOS trunk seal on eBay currently. I think it is a bit pricey, but .... Travel Trunk Lid Saddlebag Seal 54K 2847F 00 XVZ12 XVZ13 1983 1993 | eBay
  18. Lots of possibilities. But, first determine what might have happened or changed since Saturday. Consider everything and anything that might have changed.
  19. Yeah. Uh-huh. Sure.

  22. This evening, whenever I click on the 'go to new post' chevron to the left of a thread title, I get this: [h=2]vBulletin Message[/h] No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator These are in fact new posts that have been posted since my last visit to that thread. The workaround: When I click on the thread title and then to 'view first unread', I arrive at the newest unread reply. I would like to save a few clicks, so please restore the 'go to new post' chevron functionality. Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the Holiday Greetings, Gary. Must be tough celebrating Christmas in Oz while in the middle of Summer.
