  1. I know there will be some argument on the following statement(s): Blocking off the MKI anti-dive with block-off plates prevents the brake hydraulics from actuating the anti-dive and the fork action is identical to no anti-dive involvement. However, blocking off the MKII anti-dive with block-off plates essentially translates to having the anti-dive function in force at all times. The difference is in the way the fork oil is routed when anti-dive is actuated.
  2. Muzzys used to sell an aluminum fan blade for the Ventures (and the same fan for the V-Max), but a check of their website indicates that the aluminum fan blades are backordered. If you do a search for Muzzys fan blades for First Gen Ventures and V-Maxes, you may find something still in stock somewhere. The Muzzys part number for the Venture/V-Max fan blade is HT-H5. 3. In addition to checking for full enrichener opening by the cable adjustment Pete mentions, also check that all four enricheners are fully opening. Sometimes one or more of the enricheners are maladjusted. The individual enricheners may not all be fully opening when the 'choke' lever is fully rotated to 'choke'. Check that each enrichener actuating lever is adjusted correctly. The enrichener actuating levers are clamped to the common actuator bar with set screws. Check each for correct travel adjustment and for all the set screws to be secure.
  4. Howard, If you have a trunk rack mounted, check that there are waterproof gaskets, usually rubber washers, under each mounting foot of the rack. Open the trunk and check all fasteners that penetrate the trunk for missing nuts, for loose fasteners and for signs of water entry around the fasteners. Check for cracks in the trunk lid and trunk base. Water will enter through those cracks. The lid to base meeting rail is a tongue and groove affair. In the groove (the groove is on the base) there should be a flexible plastic or rubber seal upon which the tongue on the lid meeting rail rests when the trunk lid is closed. It is fairly common for this seal to become permanently deformed to the detriment of its original water proof performance. Is the trunk lid loose when closed and latched? In addition to the worn out meeting rail seal, if the trunk latch is maladjusted, the lid may not fit tight enough to prevent water entry. Some have used 'screen spline' from a home center to replace the worn out meeting rail seal, although it may be difficult to find small enough spline to fit the trunk groove. You may also try removing the old seal and reinstalling it, but upside down from its original orientation. Perhaps a small diameter string in the groove before reinstalling the seal may help to shim the seal. Good luck and let us know how you fixed the problem. There is a NOS trunk seal on eBay currently. I think it is a bit pricey, but .... Travel Trunk Lid Saddlebag Seal 54K 2847F 00 XVZ12 XVZ13 1983 1993 | eBay
  5. Lots of possibilities. But, first determine what might have happened or changed since Saturday. Consider everything and anything that might have changed.
  6. Yeah. Uh-huh. Sure.
  7. Dubai figured that out years ago, Puc. If'n you don't have any more ocean front property, just make some more. Dubai man made islands:
  8. Nope, now it is working OK.
  9. This evening, whenever I click on the 'go to new post' chevron to the left of a thread title, I get this: [h=2]vBulletin Message[/h] No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator These are in fact new posts that have been posted since my last visit to that thread. The workaround: When I click on the thread title and then to 'view first unread', I arrive at the newest unread reply. I would like to save a few clicks, so please restore the 'go to new post' chevron functionality. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the Holiday Greetings, Gary. Must be tough celebrating Christmas in Oz while in the middle of Summer.
  11. Not being critical, just curious, but why did you pop for the 'whole shebang' when you could have bought another final drive for one third?
  12. I've got these 'KC Hilites' Taiwanese knock offs. They would look awesome on your RSV. And they only draw 100 watts each.
  13. Yes. I guess using the phrase 'post 1986' might unintentionally indicate that 1986 were not included. Perhaps 'post 1985' would be more accurate? Or '1986 and later'.
  14. As a First Gen rider, I have NEVER had anyone question me about it being a 'Harley'. On the other hand, some have assumed my Venture is a 'Gold Wing'. Gold Wing v. Harley. Hmmm. I honestly do not know which I want to be associated with. How about... "IT IS A YAMAHA, MORON". The frigging 'Yamaha' designation is as big as Yamaha could make it and 'gold plated' to boot.
  15. Yeah. Don is playing again. He calls it 'tweaking'.
  16. For a post 1986 XVZ13, that is correct.
  17. Yes, Berryman Chem-Dip is good for cleaning carbs and it is safe for plastic and rubber. http://www.berrymanproducts.com/products/eco-friendly-products/berryman-chem-dip-carburetor-and-parts-cleaner/
  18. It seems to work properly now. Pics come up quickly.
  19. Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@venturerider.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. This morning when I click on a pic posted in a thread, I wait for an interminable time (one minute plus) before the pic opens. Meanwhile, the little blurb in the lower left of my screen says 'waiting for Venturerider.org'. Sometimes the pic finally opens but sometimes I receive the above error message. Freebird messing with stuff again? And coincidentally, I had just modified my signature, and when I resumed surfing the threads, I encounter this error. I'm getting gun shy.
  20. It is a paint job. Go here for the pics while doing it: http://www.krossline.de/index.php?view=category&catid=5&option=com_joomgallery&Itemid=211
  21. A dirty pilot circuit may manifest that symptom, so as Yammer says, dose it with Seafoam. Other causes of the hesitation: Improper fuel/air ratio; after assuring that the internal passages and jets are perfectly clean, adjust the pilot screws. Sticky slides Pin holed diaphragms Improper carburetor synchronization.
  22. It is most likely a warped right rotor, but it could also be caused by oil or some other contaminant localized to a small portion of the rotor. I've experienced such a pulsing on my '83 that was from a leak of the fork seal. During a lay-up, the fork oil seeped down the lower fork leg to the axle and onto the rotor leaving a narrow streak of oily stain. Try a rigorous cleaning of the rotor with solvent. Remove the brake pads and inspect for wear and cleanliness. Perhaps, a light sanding of the pads as well. Glazed and/or oily pads sometimes cause a throbbing as well, although usually at a higher frequency.
